Travis can play in SO SO many different ways on any set up. He started playing band and took jazz drumming lessons since he was a fucking CHILD! I think he on par with the likes of Tommy Lee, Neil Peart and Animal from The Muppet Show! I'm reading Travis Barker's book and even his mates said, "(musically) Travis was the most talented in Blink 182." I'm about half way into the book and it is SO damn good. For any readers out there you should check it out. I think people don't read enough.... If they did they may just be a little more informed!
@@TheZowwee I do not even need to read anything. Music created by Blink since Travis is there clearly shows that he is the most talented. He is not just punk rock drummer, he is an educated musician.
What’s with all the people complaining about the Lyrics on screen? That’s very normal for big bands. Metallica use them too and James has been singing some of their songs for over 30 years. It’s just to help if a singer gets lost for a moment. Being on stage can be pretty intense and hard to keep a clear mind.
Exactly, especially when you're kinda new to the band and the band had made 6 albums before you joined. That's quite a lot of songs to remember, even if you're not playing every song from every album.
This is my favorite version. My best friend loved Travis before his untimely death and this version lets me know why, amazing passion and reverence. But damn it’s bittersweet hearing those lyrics, miss you bud
I'm sure you're much better, Justin. 😒 I'm well aware that there are plenty of better drummers but Travis kills it every time and he's one of the most humble dudes I've ever met.
I used to get annoyed when drummers would over play songs like this and pay more attention to the visual aspects of performing than the actual musicality. But this guy must be SO totally sick of playing this songs. I guess he is doing something to make them fun. Oh yeah, last thing. He isn't this 'best in teh world' drummer that so many non musicians make him out to be.
I remember hearing this song for the first time on Much Music in 1998, when I was 11. My mom went out of town with her sister and asked if I wanted her to bring me a gift. I think it was a toss up between a Tech Deck and 'the Blink 182 album'. I asked for the album. She brought it home, and I experienced it front to back using my Dad's fairly decent headphones. Dammit is obviously the most commercially successful single off the album; and that classic punk beat is something I hadn't really heard up until hearing Dammit on Much Music. But the album, and how it played as a whole, absolutely blew me away. Even as I type this I get a sense of nostalgic Deja vu that takes me back to that moment and the visceral feeling I had that night. I cannot overstate this- Dude Ranch changed my life. And while it's easy to complain and say today's music is shit, or that it's all too accessible, or too disposable- I am just glad that I got to experience punk music the way I did in the 90's and 00's.
Travis tighted up his drumming so much from when they started, I would say his drumming has probably changed on most their first albums since he became a drumming god, just alot more added in.
To be such a little dude, Travis Barker can hit a drum just about as hard as anyone on the planet. I like that, no matter where they are performing (this is at a fairground, for example), he's gonna play it as hard as if they are playing in front of 50,000+ people at Wembley. *He's a freak of nature... a seemingly nonstop, drumming machine!*
MASTER CLASS?!?!?! hahaha. he played quarter notes on the ride and HH the whole song, which is not how the original drummer played the song- he double timed it, which is why the original is such a rad drum song. and, i am not a travis barker hater bc i think he's awesome and has his own awesome ideas and is a much better drummer than blink's original drummer. BUT- a master class is reserved for masters to teach. he is a bad-ass modern punk drum slayer- i believe that. i guess he could teach a master class on punk drums now that i think about it. but, this video example would be an example 0f how to make a punk song rock when you're tired and 'sposed to be double timing. : )
the Live Kennedys, SD, California Listen to Ben Wah Balls's bass drum, it still blows my mind that he was able to play at such speed at such a young age
yeah- it is way fast. how old was the drummer then? 17? younger? that was pretty much all he could do though- hahaha- play that punk beat super fast. it worked though. : ) i am from SD and was into punk during blink's rise through the local scene, back when they were just blink. only girls i knew were into them and all us dudes hated on them bc i was into bands like DRI and exploited and slayer and blink was just not cutting it for me as far as 'punk' went. however, i thought "M&Ms" was a dope song, but most of the album was shit, imo. as soon as they got signed i thought they sounded much better. i'm a sucker for a catchy song- it's just gotta be done right. it's so crazy how they've been able to write songs that have the same chords and still make it cool and fun. a lot of people hate on them, myself included sometimes, but they've written enough songs that they've earned a place in my heart. although, they have worked with great producers, so that's a whole other discussion. : )
TB is a great performer- that's for sure. he is definitely a bad-ass drummer too. the truth is that skill and technicality don't really mean shit to most people- they wanna tap their toes and sing along with the band about heartbreak, or hope, or whatever- you know what i mean. so, when a TB is matched up with a jazz drummer, or awesome progressive rock drummer it's just no contest in terms of skill- BUT!!!--- the beats that TB creates for punk and the similar genres that he's been in are just so right bc he truly gets the feel of that which encompasses the genres in which he plays. a jazz guy wouldn't get it and wouldn't play to the genre- not that he couldn't play TB's beats, but if he did it wouldn't quite be the same and let's not forget the fact that if you asked a jazz drummer to listen to a blink song before the drums are written and then come up with his own drums then it'll be a bit off the mark in terms of the genre. so, TB gets mad credit from me for being a great creator of punk drum parts. stay cool, jeff. : ) p.s. i love how brits say 'cunt' all the time. hahahahaha. it's such a dirty fuck'n word in america, as i'm sure you know. hahahaha.

guys he actually plays it in a way that's way easier than original where the hi-hat and ride was double tempo througout the whole song. That requires some blast beat level right hand speed

You know youve made it when you dont even have to sing your own songs, the crowd just sings for you
