  • In today's video I talk about one of the most iconic bags the Dior saddle bag. I talk about the timeline of the bag from John Galliano in 1999 for his spring summer 2000 runway collection to Maria Grazia Chiuri bringing it back for her fall winter 2018 runway collection to Kim Jones for his spring summer 2019 runway collection.

    I feel like Maria Grazia Chiuri’s adding of the strap was actually a really good idea because it made the bag much more relevant to today’s consumers and comfortable ofc but I get why the original was more aesthetically pleasing.

      Actually its not her idea, some vlogger put a strap on vintage dior saddle bag at that time saddle bag is so cheap in resell site and dior are launching it again but no strap then all the sudden they put a strap🙄🙄🙄 , just like lv coussin bag when the people are putting chain strap on their toiletry pouch the all the sudden lv made lv coussin and d/c toiletry pouch...they are not genius they are just taking notes from people on the street

    Sometimes I wonder about the other beautiful garments John Gailliano could have made if he just didn’t mess up like that. But than again, he’s now at Margiela and tbh I can’t think of anything super remarkable he has done there

    love the design but for practicality, it seems that the bag is too small to put your essentials on it especially for an expensive bag like the saddle bag for mens. I am obsessed with the Kaws collab saddle bag. I just wish its just a bit bigger.

    Is diving into the archives a cheatcode to win favour when entering a new house?
    &Dope video, didn't know the history of the bag tho the under the armpit look definitely doesn't sit right with me personally😅

    • @FashionRoadman
      @FashionRoadman  4 года назад

      Hahaha you don’t like the armpit flex. It can be seen as a cheat code. What I will say is it’s extremely easy to take a design created by someone else and just change it slightly than to come up with a totally new design entirely. John Galliano definitely did all the heavy lifting in this case.
      It’s a quick and easy way of winning the hearts of Galliano fans

    of course that the story of the John Galeano was inspired by helmut newton picture went to MGC ears and she took the saddle bag but made it feminist, because its comfortabl. Woman need to be chic but also need to do stuff . And she was forced to realesed it

    Didn’t they give these bags to influencers for free? Doesn’t that make it rinsed again...it’s not exclusive. Eh...but I did like that Kim Jones added the Alyx buckle strap

    • @FashionRoadman
      @FashionRoadman  4 года назад +5

      Yeah when Maria Grazia Chiuri brought the bags back she gave it to loads of influencers as part of a marketing campaign. Luxury in 2020 for the most part isn’t exclusive anymore anyway. Exclusivity has gone completely out of the window. The only brand that has maintained it I would say is Hermes.
      People had more individual style before the boom of the Instagram era hence why people genuinely cared about looking like everyone else in the early 2000s. Nowadays it’s the complete opposite. Everyone wants to look the same and dress like their favourite Instagram influencers

    • @nia-yl7lq
      @nia-yl7lq 4 года назад +1

      The Fashion Archive I love that Hermes and Goyard has maintained the illusion and business model of scarcity. Now don’t get me wrong, I have been influenced. I got into fashion because of Tumblr and a few celebrities but I know what I like and what I don’t so I don’t blindly follow. Do you like what Maria has done for the brand in general? It seems like she too is known for controversy...

    • @FashionRoadman
      @FashionRoadman  4 года назад +2

      I think Maria Grazia Chiuri has done amazing work at Dior. People just love to hate on her for no reason, it’s like the trendy thing to do. I honestly think people say she’s bad because they’ve heard influencers and youtubers say she’s bad. If you ask those people why she’s bad they won’t be able to give you a meaningful reason. She’s a proven couturier and designer from her Valentino days with Pierpaolo but the truth is that she’s not John Galliano and she will never live up to that billing in my personal opinion but it doesn’t make her a bad designer, she’s just not as good as Galliano.

    • @nia-yl7lq

      @@FashionRoadman Thanks so much! You're so knowledgeable, I'm envious lmaoooo.
      I've been binge watching your videos again, my head hurts. Quick question: how does one go about understanding how houses select their directors and how these directors contribute to the house, adding their own flair/signature. Idk if that makes any sense? I'm just wondering how you knew she worked under Valentino and how you pull from various sources to form your opinion of her

    • @FashionRoadman
      @FashionRoadman  4 года назад +2

      Nia ngl I just read up about fashion constantly and look into every designer so that’s how I knew she used to be at Valentino. I read books for the history and magazines for the current news. I also read articles on various websites on a daily basis to stay up to date.
