Lived in Alberta for three years and loved it. Everything you said is on point. I lived in Edmonton though and the cost of living is actually a bit lower than Calgary which makes it amazing. And job opportunities everywhere.

So, sometime ago I got admission though I did not pay the fees in the same era I got my visiting visa (conference - long past though they organize yearly) I applied for long time ago n now I learned the switch from work visa to work permit is not that straight as it seems cuz getting LMIA apart from truck driving is not that easy.

My best friend and I went looking for an apartment in Calgary yesterday. We've done this many times in the past. Here are the new GOUGHER rules that have been introduced: underground parking costs between $125 to $175 per month. The wire storage cages in the parking area cost $50 a month. In one place you paid for all utilities even the water! There are many things, like the on-site fitness places in buildings cost about $50 every month. These items have never cost us a penny! And all of this for a 2-bedroom 2-bath apartment where the rent is between $2300 and $2800 a month. The square footage is anywhere from 500 square feet to 800 square feet. The ones that are larger are at the highest price.
Once again I am appalled at the new add-ons that were not seen 4 years ago. The greed is on the rise and it's not helpful to those of us that are not in the 1% of earners. There are many places at the $1500 a month rate but the areas have more property crime than is the norm. And some violent crime as well. So the neighborhood has to meet safety standards as well. And the management in many of these places are neither helpful or timely when things go wrong.
So I say to the corporate landlords, enjoy the extra profits. And the tent people are much worse off than we were. I'm starting to ask myself what's better in Calgary than in Edmonton? Have to seriously look at that. Lived there for 6 years and other than the cold winters, worse than Calgary, it's a great place.
Give a think about other options before tying yourselves to Rodeo Central. Just saying.

I honestly do not have a means of knowing if she will get a job or not. Just like everyone coming into the country, you start applying for job and do your best at interviews. No one can say “YES” you will get a job or”NO” you won’t.

@@MimiojiehGST is a Federal tax, all province pay that tax. Ontario's GST is the same and not 13% as you mentioned. Ont has a provincial tax of 8% combined with the sales tax called HST. (harmonized sales tax). The territories do not have any territorial sales tax, only the GST.

@@Mimiojieh Alberta as a province does not have a sales tax, the 5% tax paid in that province and the territories is collected on behalf of the Federal government, that's all I am saying. Ontario's provincial tax is 8% (13% yes, but the province only gets 8%).

That’s the only way to get accommodation. No vacancy beachside of housing shortage, try Airbnb then find accommodation when you are here.
I love Calgary. Its a huge place, but it's got a small-town feel. Also, I love how there's emphasis on communal living. Then, there's our premiere, Danielle Smith. She's got to be the best Administrator I know of in Canada. Her leadership style is worth emulating, especially if you lean more towards conservatism. Then there are people I've met here, wonderful humans.
All in all, I am so grateful I didn't settle for Ontario. Imagine their realtors there telling me to pay 1 year upfront because I'm a newcomer. Chukwu Aju!

"Small-town feel" I don't think so. I've lived in Ottawa for almost 9yrs been to Calgary 4 times in the last 2yrs - It is a massive city. I won't lie Calgary is very attractive but I love it here in Ottawa.

Yes I did. It was majorly bleeding nose because the air here was extremely dry when we came. It happened for a while then stopped. Bleeding Nose due to dry air it quite common here especially for newcomers.
