    Im 30 and I spent 12 years in community college I started at the very bottom level courses and when I started getting into more advanced classes I fell into a depression and became an alcoholic. I was only taking one class per semester and still dropping them. Everyone I had known and became friends with from class has been long gone, found success or moved away. It feels like I am still running around a map on a dead server. I am definitely out of place and it feels weird, I have shown up to class still in my work boots with dirty work hands and clothes from working construction late. I finally sobered up 2 years ago, retook those harder classes, repaired my GPA and about one month ago I finally earned my associates in math and computer science. Now I am about to transfer to university with a 3.01 GPA. I feel like I am the person I wanted to be 10 years ago but my skill set is not impressive as a 30 year old lol. I am still proud of me though and that is all that matters. Even if I get my bachelor's and cant find work in that field, I have a backup plan and I will still be glad that I did it.

The class that has been the hardest for is college algebra. I also feel like i am running around the map on a dead server. I'm seeing time go by entering my 30s and i ask myself sometimes " It college still worth it for me considering in my 30's?" I know i should still try since i know deep inside i always wanted to graduate from university.

    Last month marked my 30th birthday, and presently, I'm navigating through my third year. Interestingly, a classmate recently confessed her feelings towards me, presuming I was in my mid twenties throughout our three years together. When I disclosed my actual age, 30, her reaction seemed somewhat disapproving. Despite lacking any romantic interest on my part, the situation amuses me, kinda sad too. Anyway, blessings to all who come across this message.

The way I see it we can let 40 roll around and have ZERO degree and not be able to make a higher wage, OR we can be 40 and have a degree and a good paying job, its like, we are going to age anyway, wouldn't it be worse to age and know that we didn't have the balls to go back to school achieve what we always wanted to achieve?

Now I'm 31, In the process of Re-admission and getting that stuff taken care of. I honestly can't believe I'm going back, now it's not even about the degree anymore or getting a job, it's about finishing what I started. And that's a very different feeling vs I want to go to college to get that degree. Sounds weird but that's how I'm looking at it. I'm 26 years old this year, looking to get back into tertiary studies after dropping out twice from Uni at 19 and 21 years old. I was sick and tired of working crappy jobs (albeit some of the workplace cultures were great), on top of that my ADHD made it more tough to work those jobs as I'd lose interest very quickly and not feeling I was reaching my full potential. I've now come to a point in my mid-twenties where I feel more developed through life experiences and now want to commit to myself, and push myself to do what I really want to do, even though I've got to do the 3-4 years of studying. This video really helped and I'm hoping to finish with a Bachelors when I'm 29 years old.

    Thank you so much for this very calm, hopeful video. I'm 25 now and about halfway through my Bachelor. I really like this degree but sometimes I feel so disconnected from my fellow students, who are often 19-21. Even the "older" average i tend to meet from 22-23 feels a lot younger than I feel. I want to go to class to pay attention, collect knowledge I will need for exams or my future job and be done "drifting" like I have from age 19-24. I want to talk and have people to hang out with between classes and go to the cafeteria, but I also want to meet up with fellow students to study or co-work on campus. I don't want to go to parties rn, I don't want to waste away my time with halfway-enjoyable interactions with people I'm friendly but not friends with.
    I'm lucky that I have good friends who live in town and also go to Uni, but we don't study remotely the same things and are rarely on the same campus at the same time. It would just be nice to have some people to chat /and/ work with.
    I wish there was more content like this video. I don't enjoy a lot of the college/uni content when it's too high-energy ("meet ALL the people! Have ALL the experiences, plan parties, make friends in class! Find yourself!!") because I feel like I have already done all that in my first degree about 5 years ago. Now, I like living a bit more quietly, peacefully, I like trying to get studying in every day so I won't have a terrible 2 months during exams, I like being home (even if not in bed) early.
    Sometimes it's difficult and a bit sad to realize I could make new friends way more easily if i changed my priorities, because i know i won't. I put a lot of work into being where I am now and building this life and I'm very happy living how I do. I just wish I could see my experience in media sometimes or hear it being talked about more. It's a weird kind of loneliness to not fit in with the people who aged out of "college life" because I don't have a carreer, partner, etc yet, but also not really fit in anymore with the college stage of life.
    Thank you for the content you make, it's very much appreciated. This video eased that feeling of disconnect.

    She told me this a couple weeks ago and now I'm looking at HBCUs that have good journalism and communications programs.
    I figure to just apply and see what happens, the worst that happens is I get rejected and try another school.

    High School Felt closer to prison for me and when i got out in 2010 Not only did i Not have a CLUE of what i wanted to do but I had the mind set of "Fuck that I've had Enough of School" Worked some SERIOUSLY Shitty jobs and Went to Community college to fix that, Which did Get me into GE Aviation (AWESOME JOB) but Now I WANT MORE!!! I WANT BETTER!!! I think you're SPOT ON With the mindset I'm Going in with a Laser focused Goal. Bust my ass, Kick ass and Reach for EVERYTHING I've Ever Dreamed of and NOTHING is going to Stop me. I'm Not there to skate by I'm not there to just get plastered and Party.
    (All Though IF and ONLY IF my Shit's all taken Care of and I have done what I need done I. AM. Absolutely Down for a Party I Ain't THAT fucking old.)

    So i left a Comment 9 months ago about my intentions for going back and well... Update time!!!
    I moved from New England to Michigan and i'm currently working on getting my Residency and other things taken care of But i'm looking around for Specifically Engineering focused Colleges i've narrowed it down to
    University of Michigan- Ann Arbor.
    Michigan Technical university,
    Grand Valley University,
    Currently saving money (Thanks to a Friend that's lived out here for a while offering 300 a month for rent) and Hoping i can get the instate tuition and NOT out of state if i gotta wait a few months more to apply to get a better rate that's what i gotta do.
    BUT i already took step 1 by Convincing myself to do this and WHY!!
    i've done a REALLY Hard step 2 by saving money and leaving my home state, a part of the country that i've lived in for 32 years and i picked up everything that could fit into my jeep to go do this accepting no bullshit Excuses (Not easy leaving family and Friends but this fucking matters)
    So here comes step 3,4,5,6 however many i gotta do

I’m 22, and I want to be a dietitian, but I don’t want to just rack up debt because I’ve stayed debt free and I just don’t want this to be a mistake because I was a god awful high school student. • @Lawrence_P.B
      @Lawrence_P.B  Год назад

      Best advice I have for you is to make a plan. You know what you want to go for so that's half the battle! Next look into colleges that you might want to go to. Since you're worried about debt, as you should be, I'd consider starting with community college and transferring to a 4 year after. Talk to guidance councilors at colleges you're really considering and ask about credits, Financial Aid, scholarships, and time Fram for graduation. That's the main stuff, also you'd want too look into the school/program and make sure that they have a good reputation so you'll be able to get a job.

    • @Lawrence_P.B
      @Lawrence_P.B  Год назад +5

      For the most part age is just a number! There are people who start their doctorate older than you! I’d say talk to a psychologist about their profession and see if it’s something you truly want to pursue. Mid 30’s is young and it could change your life!

    • @ecolink101
      @ecolink101 Год назад +4

      There's a saying that goes, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now". Two things can happen: In 3-4 years or however long it takes, you'll either be a graduate in psychology about to start something you only ever dreamed/thought of, or you're going to be mid 30's without the degree. One is guaranteed to happen; you will turn 31, 2, 3, 4, 5 regardless. The other would need you to take a step towards making it a reality. You're not too old. I'm mid 20s, and even I know 28 isn't old, and the only reason I know this is I follow a lot of people in the career I want to get into, and many of them only start at 30+ years old for one reason or another. They say, "30 years old, a whole life ahead of me". Make an informed decision, speak to psychologists like LP-B said and ask all the questions you need to until you're free of doubt. And then decide whether it's for you; don't live to regret what could have been because you never tried.
