I am 40 years old. I went to Berklee College of Music, was living my dream, at the age of 23 but had to drop out after 2 years, even though I was getting straight A's, because they wouldn't give me a scholarship and my college debt was nearing $100,000. So I dropped out and threw away my dreams and worked at a bank. So sad! I ended up getting very sick because I was soooooooooooooooooooooo sad my dreams were shot. Now I am studying piano, music composition, and voice at a community music school. I am now 40 years old and I plan to apply to another Music College in a few years and hope I get a scholarship this time so I can finish. I am way more advanced now and very disciplined. Going back to school at 41. I'm going for a bachelor's in Data Science. One more week and I will finish my first term. I think a good piece of advice I can give somebody is going to go back to school is always have in mind the end goal and same time learn to slow it down and take it one day at a time. Also cherish your breaks from your schoolwork, get out of the house and treat yourself when you can.

I just completed my BSN - Nursing at 58 after working with only my associates degree for 30 years. Feels good because I really accomplished this and all online. What's crazy now is I'm thinking about going for my masters degree but I am so nervous because I will be 61 when I'm finished!! I worry about putting myself in debit at this age. I worry about whether anyone will hire a 61 year old midwife or toss me aside for a much younger candidate . I ask myself if it's worth it. I'm so afraid of failure and making the wrong choice. Nursing is physically demanding. I want to work smarter not harder. My body feels so beat up at the end of every 12 hour shift. There must be a change.

Going back to school and working 2 jobs at the same time was one of the hardest things I've ever done but I'm so proud of how far I've come. I dropped out during my junior year of highschool and got my GED. I went to a community college at 19 years old. I had no idea what I wanted to do but majored in criminal justice. My HS sweetheart decides to drop out of college and enlist in the military so I dropped out of college to follow him. We got married and had 2 children. 8 years later my youngest in kindergarten . I started an online business throughout my time as a SAHM and my business is doing great but I had no other skill to get hired anywhere else if I needed to. My husband got out of the military and went back to college at 30. He is the oldest in his classes and has a 4.0 GPA and received scholarships in English. He will get his bachelors next semester 🙏🏻 I decided to go back to college myself for the spring semester at 29 years old and majoring in early childhood education.I’m so nervous but I am ready. 🙏🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️

Thank you for this video and for all the comments here. I started college in 2018 at 25 years of age, and I felt "old" and "out of place" coming to and being in an environment with younger people. But it was something that I had to do because I wanted to fulfill my dream of graduating from college and become the first of my family. I wanted to send my family the message that it is possible. Now, I have two more years remaining before I graduate with a bachelor's degree in business. I applaud each one of you that have decided to go back to college at an older age. It is never too late to learn and grow.

I've seen older people who studied and went back to school and their achievements leave me in awe. It's because their maturity and desire to learn that actually help them achieve, even if in other ways they may not have the advantages youth don't. You're right as well! Keeping the mind active in older age (or as you grow older) is fundamental to our health

I just earned two more AA's, working on my 4th. I just shotgun applied to 4 Universities to finish my BA in Psych, and earn two more. I keep getting the "What are you going to do with all these degrees?", to which I reply "Whatever I want. It's my money, my time. I owe you nothing, least of all an explanation."
20 years of cruelty and narssacistic abuse, this is my time now. I am finally a straight A student. These 4 degrees represent struggles, strife, blood, sweat, tears, sleepless nights, depression, anxiety, and most importantly, a rebirth, an overcoming of all of that, and a return to myself.

I’ve been telling myself that I need to just jump back into school (I’m 28) for the past 3 years and finish my degree. My biggest fear was not being able to complete school because of financial reasons. I’m a DACA recipient so I don’t qualify for financial aid. Now with my new employer I can go back because of financial assistance being offered, which made me realize the real reason I havent gone back was because I’m scared to fail. For a while I felt a great deal of shame and guilt when it came to re-enrolling into my undergrad program but thanks to the administrative jobs and positions in the financial sector that I've worked during my time off, I now have a clear understanding of my goals. I finished secondary school in 2016, but because of financial problems I had, I could not go as soon as I finished 12th class in 2016. I had to wait a little bit. In the middle of 2018 I got a job, but it does not pay much and I am thinking of accomulating some money for me to apply for university next year 2022. I will take English course for teaching. It is being hard for me to take the decision of quitting the job, because I may not afford to pay school fees untill I finish four years. Growing up I always thought I was lazy or unmotivated or dumb so although I did want to go to college, I felt pointless since I had struggled so much just to get through high school. Through pursuing that I ended up deciding on also getting another bachelor's in health policy administration. Last semester my mom ended up in the nursing home, and my sister had surgery. I had to care for them both as well as handle my mom's finances and still got a 4.0. If you really want it you will get it. You will find the time to focus on your homework and still care for your family. It's never too late! Thank you for sharing this information. I returned to school at 51 and am working toward transfer for University. I am finding inspiration and that I have a concentrated motivation, like you said So far, so good.i have four more classes until I graduate with AA's in Social and Behavioral Sciences, Humanities and Sociology...While my past work was spotty and inconsistent, I did have enough units to go a long way toward transfer. I'm excited and finding inspiration in other older adults that are also attending!! Good luck, everyone!

@@KimJilene The school I went to was a complete joke. Their administration did not know what the hell they were doing. All of my peers agreed with me.
I decided to take an "interruption" in my studies, and will be concluding my studies at a different school ten miles away from home in September 2022.
It turns out that the school I originally went to is developing itself a bit of a bad reputation for the student experience. This experience is not going to get me down, if anything it has made me stronger and made me understand more what I want from my studies. Sometimes you have to create your own path to get what you want (I am).

Its so much focus and priority on what matters it feels like a super power at times. When gossip happens, I just consider oh its teens being teens, don't need to get involved in that, and back to course stuff. And then when the weekend hits, I ask anyone whos old enough if they play billiards at the bar up the street and they do, all access plus the trust to be back in on monday assignment in hand having read up on the material in advanced. Its half of the squabbling drama when massive egos are in conflict about whos the better friend wrangler, and full knowledge of what matters at the end of the day, and thats getting a C or better despite any joker or clown has to say about asking too many questions or making them stay longer if they wanna be let out early, invincibility from peer pressure of sorts.
