Take it from me there's time to improve your life but it might not be easy and it's probably not going to happen overnight.
Dorian, Videos like this will always be valuable and your viewers really appreciate it. (but you already know that based on you intro). 😊
Appreciate these honest videos brother, I started following you cause of the coding stuff and stayed around for these kinds of videos.
Talking about friends, I do have some friends that I am actually reconsidering if they are necessary. I do enjoy the time I spend with them but I am starting to doubt if they are really who I should be spending/wasting my time with. If it turns out that they are not bringing anything to the table, I am not sure how I can break it to them that "this is the end".
Thanks Dorian, I'm almost 34 and I'm on the same road.. came from a single family home and poor. Thanks for the motivation!
Could you do a video on IBMs apprenticeship program, do you know anything about it?
Crack... simple speech but fills of inspiration. I'm on your Discord channel and we briefly moving around to this topic, but it's good to hear it again.
You can achive alot in just 4 years, if you are in your 20s, 30s 40s or even 50s. I found a good job, bought a nice house, found a wife and now expecting a child. Never give up!!
How old are you

I loved how you worded that, “money, solves a lot of problems.” I hate that saying “money doesn’t buy happiness,” but you know what it does buy, less problems or not having to worry about making ends meet, and that equals happiness to some of us! If you ever grew up poor or struggled you know money buys you less worry, less stress. Only people with a lot of money say it doesn’t buy happiness because they don’t even know what makes them happy, so of course it wouldn’t work for them. Those of us who grew up without it however…
Happiness has a value and most people stay ignorant about it especially in this capitalistic society we all live in now. You and I know it has a dollar value. But I have to disagree that only rich say money doesn't buy happiness. It also goes for the poor as well, some will be happy being poor, but in general as those who say it use it to cope with their situation.
I have heard it over the years from various people of different financial backgrounds: 'if only I had this much, I just need this much to retire, I want to not have to worry, I don't need much money'. The most recent one was exactly the opposite thinking, 'more money more worries'. But I understood why his mentality is like that. He heard enough stories of families torn apart because of money, he himself experiencing it.
Still even with those experiences, as a person outside looking in, I know he would be happier with a few thousand readily available.
💯
Exactly. It’s one of the many hypocrisies of this society. Something people say to make themselves feel better.
“mOnEY dOeSnT BuY hApPinEsS”
….but yet everyone and their mother is crying about the wealth gap and the cost of living. How many rich people commit suicide compared to the poor? The difference is like night and day.
While money may not bring happiness, the lack of it is sure to lead to a miserable life.
Money gives you *freedom* - both kinds of it:
1. The freedom _to_ do good things - options or choices that most of us don't have, e.g. holidays and home-ownership and enjoyable careers.
2. The freedom _from_ bad things - health insurance and emergency funds and bailouts from rich family if anything goes wrong; infinite second-chances.
Rich people have the freedom to choose to be happy and get therapy or less stressful jobs. Many don't, but it's still better than not having that freedom in the first place.
Never underestimate the power of discipline.

I'm almost 60 and I'm still trying to get my life together.

I pray for your succes sir.
We're all on our own journey in life. It's not too late. Who knows, you might make it to 90. 30 years is a lifetime.
Daaaamn never too late brother...keep punching 👊
Too late bro, just retire and call it a day
I'm kind of the opposite. I was a great kid in school, joined the Army at 18, had my Bachelor's degree by 24. Had 2 career jobs that paid well. Then I hit 30 and now at 32 I'm in the worst place I've ever been in in life and feel like quite the loser. Trying to turn it back around, but it hasn't been easy. This year was first time I ever had a negative bank balance and first time I ever went two consecutive months without employment.
Reflecting and watching this video, I realize I stopped doing a lot of the things I really focused on and pushed for before. I got complacent and kind of gave up for a couple years, just existing and not living. Spending more than I needed to as well. But I used to be so good at adulting when I was younger. :| Need to get back
Good luck man you can do it. It’s a marathon not a sprint !
Just keep going on. Time passes either way. DO what you HAVE to do.
wish you good luck, brother
Good Luck brother!
" A problem well stated, half solved "
Good luck
If only it was that easy to find a 'good partner'. I'm 33 and just about to buy my first place on my own literally next week. As much as I'd love a good partner, nobody should wait around for one. These things can be achieved alone.
I'm 35 now, my 20's were a complete waste, from blowing up a good job in banking I had back there it just went downhill all the way to rehab for cocaine adiction. I lost everything, the little shit I got left I got together 3 years ago and started learning to code by myself, just relentlessly grinding and learning non stop til this day. I was hired last january to a Senior Fullstack Developer role, the pay was so good that I could leave Brazil and lots of those bad memories that still haunted me. Now I'm living in Canada, still working remotly for this Brazilian company and trying to land a job here in Canada. So YES, everyday is a new day to get your shit together, a thousand mile journey begins where one stands, so don't give up guys!

Gosh!!!! 😂😂😂 Took me few seconds
I had suicidal pangs due to depression and that's when quit my last job at the age of 35 and since then - for a year now - I have been freelancing on things like content writing and subtitling in English and German (as I cleared my intermediate certification recently). I had decided I won't go back to the BPO jobs I was into. While freelancing I started consuming more and more content on things like Content Marketing and Coding. That's when Python happened to me. At 36, I am doing a Python Bootcamp and also learning things on Blockchain. From being in total shit at 35 to being someone and with childlike curiosity at 36, I have learned one important life lesson - IT IS NEVER TOO LATE
And THIS is precisely why I can relate to you and your channel a lot man. Great going!
Hell yeah! Keep going! You got this! It is never too late. We’re all a speck of dirt in this vast universe living inside a small blue dot 🌍 spinning thousands and thousands of miles per hour. It is truly never too late for anything!!!
Good for you. Hope you are doing great.
How reading this comment gave me hope more than the video. Thank you.♥
I don’t think you can cure actual depression using Python but I’m glad it works for you.
As someone who is in their 30's with a similar story it's really refreshing to see another delinquent getting their life together.
Your not alone, first thing first Your health. Get rid of your addictions, get rid of your problems. The things holding you back, mine was video games, food, and depression. It's been 6 months since I've touched a video game, I am now eating clean, I've gotten real about me ever holding a degree It's not in the cards. Man I'm trying to turn this around. I really am.
im in my 20's and i feel like a failure even tho im actualy doing really good compared to everyone i went to school with.
Hey Dorian, really appreciate the authentic and helpful content you're putting out there man. I'm turning 30 this year and sometimes feel like I've wasted a large portion of my life, but for opposite reasons (always doing what I'm supposed to do, rarely what I feel a calling to do). I quit my job last year and am learning finally learning to code, but it's hard not to let the comparison game get me down sometimes. I often find your videos to be a good cure for that toxic 'comparing' mindset.
Keep doing what you're doing man, there are people out there that really benefit from your story and perspective.
Just wanted to say your channel is a goldmine for people who are trying to change their life especially if your in the beginning throws of learning code. Thanks for sharing your life.
Your videos have been a huge source of inspiration to me lately. I'm 33 and even though I haven't messed up as much as you did - in terms of drugs or going to jail - I also feel like my 20's were a total waste of life! I was trying, but from a more experienced perspertive, now I see that I absolutelly wasn't trying hard enough. Not even close to it. To find motivation to start over after more than 10 years doing basically nothing to improve is reeeeally hard. The feeling is (or at least was) that there was no way that there was still any perspective for me in this life. And now I've been studying code everyday as I was gonna die tomorrow. Something I should've already started doing many years ago, considering I'm enjoying it so much. I'm really grateful that you choose to share not only the perks, but also all of the shit you've been through and how you managed to overcome all of that. Thank you!
Respect to you man....
It takes courage to share the hardships.
Kudos to you.
This is inspiring.
I really like the way you approach to the problem, in a world where everybody is a winner in social media, seeing a person that can say "I'm a loser and I got a job and got to be successful" Is something that is really inspiring.
Thanks.
I found you by accident, but I stayed because I'm at the stage that you were at. And I really love what you had to say. Nearly all the improvement videos on RUclips exclude 30 YO as if life is over at that age. I really appreciate you making this. Thank you.
This video definitely encouraged me to take on what I'm facing right now. Thank you.
This video came at perfect timing. Thanks for sharing
I can relate especially with sacrificing good relationships as collateral damage while learning to code and distancing from bad relationships
Collateral damage is the best wording for that! It's exactly what it is. Hard but necessary!
I can relate to your upbringing almost entirely. I turned 29 this March and I'm looking to get my ish together. Thanks for uploading this.
That is exactly what I needed right now.
Thanks Dorian
well said. I've been learning how to code for 5 years now on the side and I just recently got a job. Battling with how to handle relationships because I love hanging out with friends but I know I should focus on this career if I want to get better. and some relationships have to be sacrificed for a better future even if they are healthy ones.
I love you Kofi.
This was phenomenal! Thank you so much for this. Please feel free to make more videos like this.

I am grateful to have come across your videos on personal development- I am 31 years old right now, but your videos offer alot of hope and insight on how I can avoid making mistakes in my 30s and how I can make my 30s even better than my 20s!!
Thanks a lot, Dorian. I really enjoy your videos. Keep doing what you doing.
I really don't know how to put my thoughts into words together but I just wanted to say thank you for your down to earth life advice. With a lot of patience and a lot of hard work there isn't anything you can't achieve. Wish all of you get the strength you need to reach your life goals and dreams.
Thank you so much, you have given me so much hope. I know now because of you and your videos codeing is not for me. I am an outside guy, i cant sit in front of a comouter for hours even if its fun.You have given me a push to start my own thing.

The important thing for me, besides all you said in this amazing video, is to get to know yourself better and don't punish yourself when you fail, recognise your patterns and try to improve the situation, one step at the time. If your direction and mentality is right you'll get where you want to be.

One of the best video out there on RUclips. Always real, hard-hitting and relatable. Thank you Dorian!
Like I've mentioned earlier, my wife showed me your video and that pushed me strongly into coding. I am 6 months into this coding journey with a full time restaurant job from 4pm to 11:30pm. Yet, I always devote minimum of 6 hours everyday to learn coding after my hectic shift. My goal is to become a Web Developer before the end of 2022.
Thank you again and good luck to everyone who's aspiring to become one!
Always appreciate the honesty you give us.
Dorian, I just want to say thanks. I'm learning a lot from you and hearing it from someone who made it out of a tough situation makes me feel more confident that I can also be successful one day.

So happy I stumbled upon this video. Thanks for the motivation!
Dude I love that you're reaching out to other guys who struggle. I was a goddamn TWEAKER. Needles and everything. Homeless. Pushing the cart. No lie. Whacked out of my mind. 15 years later, I work in a cardiac cath lab, making just about 6 figures or close to it, depending on how much extra I work. I'm saving to buy properties and I'm on my way to financial freedom with a plan.
Change is slow and sometimes unnoticeable. It comes with SETBACKS. But guys, it comes. It happens. All you have to do is start with something small and build on that success. You're better than you think, guys
So much of what you've said resonates with me. Thank you for this

Thank you! I get self destructive sometimes and lose motivation and discipline to do the things I know will be best for my future self. Actually hearing similar insights, helps me to grow. I’ve never been around people who see this way. It’s always been near sided, nobody wants to put the effort in giving up when shit gets hard. Or peeps that just have a mask on at all times who don’t realize how important goals are. Didn’t learn until i wanted to get my head out of my ass that you become the people you surround yourself with. Thank you Dorian
