Say what you will about SSB64, you can't deny how satisfying the gameplay is. Nothing feels better than getting a long combo string. It might be in part to the punch SFX sounding like bowling pins but idk lol
Brandon Anderson They changed the SFX for the US version (and probably other regions) because they were afraid it would come off as too violent with normal sounds.
I hope there are others that actually feel nervous when they're doing footsies. A single hit from either of them and it could be game. I feel that way everytime I see them doing footsies.
Only reason it's slow is cause this match up is very bad for falcon, so they have to play carefully or there dead, did you watch the video? They both combo'ed extremely well and usually 0 to death, now how is this game slow if the stocks fly fast as fuq?
THE_MAAFIA The neutral is actually much slower paced, because combos are devastating in this game and can easily take somebody form 0 to death in seconds. In other words, neutral is slow, combos and deaths are fast.
kraptv It's actually pretty interesting. A lot of 2d fighting games (like street fighter) have to be slow in the neutral cause one combo leads to death. Sm4sh is slow because edge guarding is harder (no edge hogging) and stocks generally last longer (less gimps, less combos etc.)
***** Sm4sh metagame is evolving though. Edge hogging has been replaced by ledge trumping (with all the new techniques, combos and mind games that implies) and new combos are being discovered, and gimps, while less frequent, have a much higher impact due to how good recoveries are and the fact that most KOs come from lateral and upper blast lines. My point is, Sm4sh metagame could evolve into being much more fast paced, it is till too early to judge.
chcuc Lol no. Sm4sh has no combos. Sm4sh has 2 stocks and ends in timeouts and sets take as long as 5 stocks in 64. Sm4sh will never have an evolved meta with new techs because once a combo is discovered and a technique created, some whiny kid online will complain to sakurai and he will patch it. GGs sm4sh.
Logan R. B. What sm4sh match have you seen where someone went from being uptilted to dying? Please give me a link. The only exceptions are characters that have uptilts that can kill, like Villager.

Heard this game has a lot of hitstun.

I think the Japanese version sounds like people getting punched.

lol he ended game 1 before it was over
Even if the game feels kind of campy it doesn't because every hit leads to death

Smash 64 always makes me cringe. 1 up tilt or whatever and you're DEAD
Like Smash 4? Because of the up tilt spam?
Logan R. B. Sounds like you don't know how to DI
That's what the 5 stocks are for. Personally, I can't get enough of it.
+Chuggles McMeow Yes I do know how to DI.
