    They sometimes can fill basically hole sky. I have been plenty of times in Lapland and seen northern lights like that around 5 times. U can go always much north. Never seen good ones under Rovaniemi. Always ski Resots like Ylläs, Levi and Pallas.

    Northern light are so dependent of day. There were multiple nights during this winter when northern lights were visible in southern Finland. Glad that you saw them.

    The equinox has nothing to do with northern lights.

    most of the time the northern lights aren't intense enough to recreate those shots they sell to tourists because that requires very powerful solar activity and super clear conditions. basically manage your expectations if you hunt them and understand that most pictures are at least somewhat edited and in real life really intense aurora is a very rare phenomenon
    That said everyone should be lucky to see them at all because it's not a given
