Dimitri, Lauren (and anyone else interested), Can I offer a little advice on binaural recording?
I'm a sound engineering student and I've used many stereo recording techniques. For starters, the Zoom H4n is a damn nifty portable stereo recorder. It's pretty powerful. I love it for what it is. The configuration of those two microphones at the top however, are in XY. The XY stereo mic configuration is actually rather narrow, so even though it is two channels and can be panned hard left and right, it's not considered binaural really, BUT for videos like these, it's not only easy to set up, but affordable, so if it's your only choice, it's a good one.
Now, if, like you, Dimitri and you have two cardioid pencil mics like the Rode NTG-3 (yay for aussie mics!), you can play. One of the easiest and most accurate binaural mic configurations is ORTF. It is quite an accurate representation of how a human hears and it works best if the listener is using headphones (which most are). Basically, you set up your two mics to be around 17.2cm apart and angled at 110 degrees.
But anyway, You're doing a great job Dimitri! Best of luck to Lauren!

If a microphone requires power, it doesn't mean that it's a better microphone, for example take a Shure SM58 which is a dynamic mic, that doesn't need any power and take a Behringer C-1 that requires 48v of phantom power. SM58 will sound a lot better. Dynamic microphones also perform better in a non acoustically treated environment. To make your sound better you want a decent preamp in addition to your microphone, that will reveal the full potential of any microphone.
    P.S - Rode's sound better.

Front-back localisation is always difficult, it seems, that the problem could be, that every head and ear is a bit diffrent. So when I record with a Sennheiser MKE 2002 using my own ears, front-back localisation works much better for me, than in other binaural recordings, using a dummy head.

Do you think the ear cavities will help front-back directional audio by simulating the slight change in character from sounds behind the ears? That always seems to be a problem in 90% of binaural recordings - right-left is awesome, even high-low seems to work well for some reason, but front-back is often hard to perceive.
I support the return of cutting sounds, as others have already :)
