Hey Garrett, I’ve been making concrete obstacles for some years and I wanted to give you some tips. 1. Don’t use quick setting concrete, you’re setting yourself for failure. I prefer to use regular concrete + sand and you might need to add a rebar in the wallie ramp and S shaped bench for longevity and additional strength. Once they cure and you take them out of the mold get them wet again (it’s best if you cover them with a damp towel) and let them dry away from direct sunlight for at least 24hrs before you sand them. 2. Weight your concrete and water(and sand) before you mix them, that way you’ll mix the same amount of each every time you pour concrete. Ideally you want 2 parts water 2 parts concrete 1 part sand. If not using sand replace it with concrete in that formula. These are rough estimates and ultimately depend on what concrete you use, find a mix you like doing a few tests. 3. Get a cheap massage gun to help you vibrate the molds faster and more evenly. This is a key step to get smooth and strong obstacles. Vibrating the mold for the S bench will make pouring through the funnel easier too. 4. You’ve said this yourself but please wear gloves and buy a respirator. It will also be useful for when you sand the concrete. Concrete is a nasty chemical that can burn your skin and inhaling it sucks.
A sawzall is typically used on concrete forms to vibrate them. That may work for these. Best tip is to get an actual finishing float, not a trowel. You'll want to keep it in a bucket of water to make the surface float a little nicer. You might be able to slow down cure time slightly if you keep it out of direct sunlight as well. And for the wave ledge, fill the bottom of the mold up and then cap it and fill the top. that should have two fill ports (one on each end) to help distribute the concrete easier. I would also make the vent larger. You can always sand down the side, you can't add more.
Since I saw your first video of your running journey I started running at least a mile a day too and I feel amazing after starting! Thank you for the motivation!! Been loving the videos since the move!
Journeyman Plaster here, and I don't necessarily work with a ton of concrete. I do however work with molds just like those for special projects. I've pored some massive molds before that end up weighing 100+lbs. Something worth trying would be casting plaster. It will work the same for finger boarding, just wont have the same color of concrete. It usually takes 20min to dry, but you can add a retardant to it and make the mud last 40+ min if you want it too. I noticed a couple things you could work on. Add water to the bucket before the dry powder you'll get a better mix out of it. Just don't over do the water, you can always add more. Spray the molds with a cooking spray like PAM. That will help them come out smooth on the mold side, and pop out easy. Also makes cleaning way better. Tap the sides of the mold to get bubbles out rather than moving them around a ton. Get a multipurpose sprayer from a hardware store and mist the tops before you start to trowel them. That will help it smooth out without pulling the mud like you did in this vid. The casting plaster will also be a bit easier to sand if you need to. Feel like I'm forgetting something, but hope some of those tips help.
I used to watch so much throughout high school and loved your content, sounds weird but it makes me happy to watch you because you seem so humble ,I stopped watching you once I finished high school only because life got busy but now I’m able to watch you again and I still love the content youre making,I’m glad you’re still on RUclips
you mentioned what quarters your viewers were in, I would say I'm in the "here for whatever" category. This channel has grown to be my favorite, it started just about learning to play session and I stayed for your personality. no matter what content you make I'll be here. I also am learning to drift and have a sim setup I bought it before I knew you had a rig. Great minds think alike .👍
I have a feeling the issue with the 2 piece mold not draining fast enough has to do with air getting trapped in the mold. When you pour the concrete into the funnel, it seals off the only opening. The air inside the mold can't escape causing the concrete to fill in slower. Maybe adding a vent hole on top at the other end will help out. Keep up the great content!
Growing up watching you from setting up boards to this is definitely a change but this has helped me through so many dark times keep it up man loving the content 🤟🏻
absolutely love the longform content garret been watching you since i was a young teen and now im in my twenties still looking up to you! keep up the awesome content bro
Hey Garret, I've been watching your content for a long time and I really love the new stuff you're putting out. The only thing that bothers me right now is your running technique. I used to run the same way, but now aiming to get my marathon time under 4 hours. I decided to try a more structured training method, focusing on running according to my heart rate zones. It feels slow at first, but the progress is impressive. Please try not to push yourself too hard to avoid injuries. Keep up the great work!
I'm here for whatever. First found your session videos randomly lastt year, would watch a video when it popped up on my home page kind of thing. Then right when you first bought this house i subscribed and i've been hooked since then
Bro loving these longer videos even when you’re just messing around, it feels like I’m there just chillin with you, most of the time life just be like this haha
I'm definitely part of the here for whatever content people. It's been dope to see the new place come together, I feel super inspired to work hard and get my own place like that someday!
On that two part mold, you need a vent hole to give the air someplace to go. It will also let you know when you’re full. Also add a tomahawk to your “high school toys”. They are super fun to throw and you can use them to cut firewood and stuff.
You may already own a massage gun or get one easily, it can be used to make the molds vibrate, even to make the whole table vibrate if you attach the gun to it (and the table is not too sturdy/heavy). We once opportunistically used a massage gun to do the same but on an full size concrete column we were making at our local DIY skatepark.
I’ve only ever put fence posts in with concrete but if I were doing that I’d make an extra sloppy small mix, just enough for the two piece mould. You could make it in a jar and just shake the jar. Tape the mould together and take my sweet time to make it. Rinse the jar, pop the mould and then go again.
Fun tip. When you're running if you control your breath, by breathing two in one out. In when your feet hit the ground. It's an old army trick. It's not gonna help your legs tho lol
Well done not pushing too hard skating… recovery is key when you have an active lifestyle! Also, keep rewarding yourself (in the way of calories) for hard work!! Those new muscles you made from are going to need fuel💪🏽
Hey Garrett, maybe you should try securing your palm sander to the table somehow so when you fill all of the molds you can vibrate the whole table at once so you don’t have to do each individual one because of how fast that stuff dries. Just a thought but I think it might work well. You could probably also get away with a thinner consistency it might spare you a few minutes of dry time. Either way I’m here for it! Lovin the content!!
For the concrete, you don't need that quick set. You will also save money using normal concrete and sand, lowering your costs. You do want to add in some wire mesh though. Use a proper float and wet it for smoothing the tops. Production is all about efficiency, your current setup is not efficient which is why it is so stressful and costly. You are also working in high temps and direct sun, which is causing things to set so fast. Inside your new garage would give you more time to work, even with what you have now. Create a real production area that is level and has everything at hand that you need. A concrete vibrator is what you want and it will vibrate the entire table and molds at once with proper strength to work out bubbles. You can use the palm sander or a sawzall with no blade though and do mostly the same thing. For your two part mold, that is made for resin and not concrete which is why you are struggling a bit. Widen the fill hole and add another fill hole on the other side, add/widen the air hole too. Fill the bottom half first, then put the top on and fill just that part through the funnel/fill holes. You can also get a small shut off for the end of your hose that screws on and has a valve (they are only a couple dollars) that way you can turn it on or off right at the end instead of needing to go to the faucet. You could also make resin obstacles and add colors, and you can stain the concrete also if you want some variety.
to get it to cure slower put your cement in the freezer or in the fridge a few hours before the pour and take the coldest water you can get, it will slow down how fast it will set a lot and keep it from direct sunshine during the pour will also help
For the concrete obstacles you should use a dental laboratory vibrator. Before you pour the concrete in, you turn it on and it does an excellent job with getting all the bubbles out. I used to help out a friend of mine who is a dental technician and it's a really handy tool.
Try pre-measuring out your water and concrete mix, develop a process for mixing the concrete (1/2 before water, 1/2 after water or something like that), then time how long it takes for it to incorporate everything and properly mix it. This way you'll streamline everything and have more time before everything sets to focus on smoothing out imperfections.
Use regular quick Crete and mix a little Portland cement in it too for maximum strength. And make a shaker to shake the concrete down more. And if you get a wood float it willbring the crete water up and make it way more smooth. And maybe look in the paint isle for a paint shaker.
I get the escape thing. Escaping from the world. Its ok to do that, but its also just as important to turn and face the world (your fears), overcome the things you dont know.
for the one fingerboard obstacle that came out bad, just make thinner concrete...easy as that...also i would probably lube surfaces where mold is slpit if it ends up leaking.. im no expert in this kind of stuff but it simply makes sense 😉
You need a vibrating plate , get one from a dental supplier, we use them in the dental lab for casting the impressions, vibrate the mould as you pour and it will flow in and the bubbles will all rise to the surface .
I was gonna tell u.. you should try pouring water in a measuring cup. Then fill up that S box with the funnel. And see how much its gonna be for the crete 😁❤
That fully enclosed mold, the wavy bench-manual pad... does it have a second hole? If not, that could have been the issue. The air needs to be able to escape from opposite side your pouring into to assure all air leaves and is filled with nothing but the concrete. If there was a second hole for the air... regard what was just said lol
If you add some of the water to the bucket first, you won't get dry powder stuck at the bottom. I feel like you need some sort of metal mesh in there for strength though. And slower concrete 😅
I feel like the mold that is the S ramp ledge, you should pour in the concrete into the base and then put the lid on top and then fill the rest of the mold
This is coming from someone who has there own fingerboard concrete obstacle bis. You need metal mesh - aka chicken wire when you poor them.. other wise your obstacles will last a week tops brother …😂👍🏼 Also you need a table that’s level … not a peice of wood on slanted hill
Ya I think a vibrating table would be best. Maybe even a peice of wood like you had with the sander going on the wood so it’s always vibrating and I would give the top a little spray with water when smoothing it out
Could clamp up an electric sander to the table (without sandpaper) to make the whole table vibrate and see if that makes the process easier for go-time?
thin the concrete more and make a shake table to make them! put some springs under the ply wood and attach velcro to the table and throw the sander on it ;) btw i would love to send you a fingerboard deck i only make them for fun so nothing too special
U should add some water in the mold before u pour because if the mold dry the cement gonna dry faster So if it’s wet you’ll have more time to smooth it out cuz it won’t dry as fast
For the concrete you can open more boxes and not use the thing. If you need a little more just use what you need so you don’t have to stress and waste more. Maybe they sell a large bucket that you can just mix by weight.
Yo, you should try using like a massage gun or something like that for vibrating the molds. I feel like that would help and give some consistency in the finish.
i need to get fit too, but it's too hot to be running around. i really only even prefer to skate at night. i suppose i could run at night too. i'm 6'3, 220. down from 245ish, but i'd like to get closer to 200 flat.
bro you went downstairs for your board than forgot your key upstairs too open the car than went back upstairs too get the key/phone too unlock the car, went back downstairs too get your board officially than went back upstairs all for 1 nollie flip than back down the stairs to put your board away if that’s not dedication I don’t know what is honestly
Use different concrete. Something that has more time to play with. I made a finger board park with concrete with some small stones in it to hold it together. Can't really sand much because the stones start to show.. but adds realizum!!
keep the first piece the same, nd the second piece carve out from the other side the outiline of the obsticle through the whole mold, put it on top the same way u did now and just pour the cement in. Aka do the same just poke the mold shape all the way thro
Get a smaller jug for the two piece and knock down on the table beside it or give it a jiggle with the free hand as you pour. Wet the trowel before you finish the tops 👍🏼
At what age would you day you found this “mature” drive in life. I want to start so bad but just know at 22 im not fully ready to lock in yet. Between school, work and golf its hard to find time. Thanks alot g dawg

All really great advice.
Let’s make sure he sees this
Follow this advice.
Also add air escape hole to the other end of the top of the closed mould

Been waiting the last 3 hours for an upload!
Mother nature I salute you
Been hours last the 3 waiting upload an!
Dip your trowel in water before you do the finishing 🤟🏻
@kellykubik4514 Warm too with another dry
Since I saw your first video of your running journey I started running at least a mile a day too and I feel amazing after starting! Thank you for the motivation!! Been loving the videos since the move!
Love to hear that!! Congrats!
Crazy how I’ve been waiting to see more finger board obstacles

Same. I find this just as entertaining as Chad Caruso skate accross America.
It’s my main watch on RUclips daily.

Jeez I’m early. Keep up the amazing content! Been loving the new style of vidoes ❤
Thanks so much!
YOO I love any and all content that involves anything to do with fingerboarding
Garrett I really enjoy this type of content! I just put this on the background while working and it actually helps me focus keep it up!

Another banger! I love these day in the life/random stuff videos! Any news on the LA house selling?
Hi Garrett :) don't forget to warm up before and cool down after the run, otherwise you can get injured over time! enjoy✨ I love your content :)
Love finger boarding bro I also miss your streams ❤️
Take a recip saw with no blade and put it on the side of the mold to get the bubbles out. Keep it up man loving this.

So 2 breaths in 2 steps when your feet hit the ground and just breathe one breath out ? I wanna try this
@@highgamesdaily5650 yeah. I don't know how much it works. I just know I had an NCO that swore by it and taught all of us to do it
@@highgamesdaily5650 two short breaths in one long out

Ice bath/cold plunge..tried it for the first time the other day and it helps soooo much bro
you can add water to the top so it dries a bit slower / makes it easier to trowl clean
There’s also liquid release to help keep the concrete from sticking to the molds, highly recommend!
Really like all of your content...
Love all of the content. Maybe only make like one bag or enough concrete for one obstacle at a time so you don’t need to rush
For the concrete obstacles you should use a dental laboratory vibrator. Before you pour the concrete in, you turn it on and it does an excellent job with getting all the bubbles out. I used to help out a friend of mine who is a dental technician and it's a really handy tool.
Do you have a palm sander? You could attach one to your table and turn it on once you fill the molds. It will gently shake all the bubbles out
My day is 10 times better when u post
Im here for whatever content, but the sweeping content got me turning on post notification
13:38 was so funny and creative
Came for the kickflip over LA river and stayed for the sweeping content.

For the 2 piece mold drill a second hole for the other half and just make the concrete a little more watery!
for those long runs you could try to eat a couple of gels or something to keep your energy (carbs) levels higher and not be so tired in the end!
more finger boarding stuff
for the one fingerboard obstacle that came out bad, just make thinner concrete...easy as that...also i would probably lube surfaces where mold is slpit if it ends up leaking.. im no expert in this kind of stuff but it simply makes sense 😉
You need a vibrating plate , get one from a dental supplier, we use them in the dental lab for casting the impressions, vibrate the mould as you pour and it will flow in and the bubbles will all rise to the surface .

13:38 made me laugh way harder then i should of 😂
Have u ever tried just tegular cement or something like that wich doen not dry this quick
The 2 piece needs a vent if it doesn’t have one already! When you have a closed mold, the vent will let the air escape as the mold fills.
Could clamp up an electric sander to the table (without sandpaper) to make the whole table vibrate and see if that makes the process easier for go-time?
To save some time with the concrete, you could get a 2nd bucket and fill it with water, to save you going back to the tap
thin the concrete more and make a shake table to make them! put some springs under the ply wood and attach velcro to the table and throw the sander on it ;) btw i would love to send you a fingerboard deck i only make them for fun so nothing too special
idk if you have seen undialeds fingerboard park but doing that in the top area would be crazy cool
i like the unsweetened fruit flavored seltzers. i like the bubbles of soda more than the sugar/sweetness
U should add some water in the mold before u pour because if the mold dry the cement gonna dry faster
So if it’s wet you’ll have more time to smooth it out cuz it won’t dry as fast
That hill by the garage is just begging to become a mini mega ;)
Whats up Garre! How about use like a teragun to vibrate the moldes
Get a spray bottle for "flattening" at the end. Will help keep it from setting up.
fiberglass in your concrete brotha!
For the concrete you can open more boxes and not use the thing. If you need a little more just use what you need so you don’t have to stress and waste more. Maybe they sell a large bucket that you can just mix by weight.
I love how you didn't get a single person to bite on your Tesla hater prompt lol... We're trying to ride the positivity train here, bro!
Shake the whole table with the orbital sander. Use it on the bottom of the plywood sheet.
Can't wait
yayyyyyy head mount content
the batteries also have trouble after 3 years in colder areas... or like salty areas where it corrodes
Why use the funnel for the bottom half of that last one? Fill the base, then add the lid, then funnel?
Yo, you should try using like a massage gun or something like that for vibrating the molds. I feel like that would help and give some consistency in the finish.
Drill the exhaust hole bigger? On the mold with funnel

You need to get a Ninja Creami. If you love ice cream but want to make it healty it's a must have.
That Honda CR-X t-shirt goes crazy
keep the first piece the same, nd the second piece carve out from the other side the outiline of the obsticle through the whole mold, put it on top the same way u did now and just pour the cement in. Aka do the same just poke the mold shape all the way thro
If you have some leftover concrete, could you use it to fill the cracks at your upper skatepark?
I can’t wait for the new obstacles .
I’ve been slacking but they’re coming soon I promise!!! Been so busy
Set a palm sander on the table it vibrates and get concrete that takes a minute to dry
Get a smaller jug for the two piece and knock down on the table beside it or give it a jiggle with the free hand as you pour. Wet the trowel before you finish the tops 👍🏼
And keep another bucket of water with you
figure out much powder you need to make one full mold just mix that pour it so you can keep an eye on it then proceed on to the next one
At what age would you day you found this “mature” drive in life. I want to start so bad but just know at 22 im not fully ready to lock in yet. Between school, work and golf its hard to find time. Thanks alot g dawg
some of those not as clean ones you can always try and make them look weathered. like theyve been skated for years or been outside for a while.
