Not a single word in the lyrics of this song rhyme. Most ears will never notice it. Yet the song flows like a river of hot steel. If that's not a testament to the transcendent power of Graham Bonnet's vocals, I don't know what is.
For me. it is almost 40 years. LOL. Graham Bonnet singing this great song with that beautiful girl dancing off to the side was my favorite MTV video watching as a young teen in 1979, early 1980s. It still is today 39 years later.
Most songs contain verses with lyrics that purposefully rhyme certainly at various times. Not necessary though, always. That is for sure. A well written song is a well written song and it comes across to listeners as just that. This great song and Paul Simon's "America" come to mind. The lyrics ending every line dont rhyme with the previous line, etc., nor do lyrics rhyme too often in any other rhyming pattern. Most all songs do. It is rather unusual.
I'm 61 also. Met Blackmore (on more than one occasion), met Cozy and Dio. Simply awesome. We were extremely lucky. With the dross that we have to listen to today, its comforting to know that we saw real musicians, doing real music. The likes of which we are unlikely to ever see again.
