I saw U2 in a little club in Columbus OH, 1982, for $4.50! They sounded great, and I remember thinking... "these guys are going places"! They played 'I will Follow' in the middle of the set, and again in the encore!
Paul Young I was thinking that was the instrument being played in the track, but couldn't think of the name of it at the time I commented. Too, Steve Lillywhite is an awesome producer, along with Levine, Clearmountain, Hine, Horn, etc.
Early U2 was so cool. They started getting a nice following when I was in high school and then became mega stars after Joshua Tree hit my freshman year in college.
This was the first U2 song that I ever got introduced to. The first time I ever heard it was in 2002 when I was 4 years old. My dad had the song turned on one day on his stereo system while he was getting ready to go to an event of some sort and I could hear it from my bedroom. It's an awesome song.
My favorite U2 song since 1980. "The Edge" is my favorite guitar player of all time. MTV was the most wonderful thing that happened to me during eighties.
This is one of those few songs that just jumped put of the radio when I first heard it. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing. A few months later I got to see them on their first (1981) US tour in a little club in Austin, Texas called Club Foot. Bono climbed the speaker stacks to the balcony and seemed to be kissing some of the people up there.Still have the ticket stub. Anyway, this was always my favorite U2 song..
greg raines the same year that they played Randy's Rodeo in SA. I wanted to go so badly but my dad wouldn't let me. I had to wait until 2002 to see them. And it was an incredible show. The best concert I have ever seen.
Probably my favorite U2 song. An essential track of the post-punk craze that was going on around this period. But they've long since sold out in the 40 years since this came out.
My best friend in HS and CEGEP was a massive U2 fan. He died of cancer 15 years ago. I can't listen to U2 without thinking of him. I couldn't listen without the massive sadness of thinking of his death. It seems to have lessened a bit over the years. Glad I can relisten to these songs of my youth.
One of the band's earliest and still one of their best. I always thought The Edge was a very underrated guitarist - that relentless driving rhythm always gives me goosepimples,
Wow! The time when Adam looked like Napoleon Dynamite, Larry still looked like a kid and the Edge still had his mullet! Oh and also this was the time when Bono couldn't dance... oh wait hang on... Even still U2 are in my book THE BEST band. God bless all of them.
I did this in a karaoke bar in Fueterventura some years ago. I did it properly IMHO and it got a great reaction. I was a bona fide rock star for 4 minutes. Loved it. U2 are the best and most important band of the last 40 years.
Just heard this touching bit of trivia about U2. Bono wrote the song "I Will Follow" in honour of his mother who passed away when he was only 14; he sings it at every concert, over 800 times and counting! I just ♥ Bono and I just ♥ this flashback vid, from 33 years ago, look how young they were, how young we all were LOL!
How young indeed! Kids nowadays have no idea how different it was then.Had to rely on friends to make a mixtape or listen to college radio to get good music.I had my Walkman attached to my ears at all times, either listening to my own tapes or WWSU for new wave and punk music. U2 were one of the most prevalent on my playlists.
@@AllhailtheUS hey! I am only fifteen and I wasn't even alife when this came out. And I freakin LOVE it. November Gold November Gold that is awesome! Always follow the beat of your own drum...never be a lemming and like something just because everyone else does. U2 is an amazing group that has always been their own band. The crap that passes for music these days amazes me, but I'm not surprised. I am here after listening to the new single by Inhale - the band of Bono's son. Lets keep the irish rock forever! U2 is my favorite band.. Lets see what Inhale will do! Fingers crossed!

I'd give my right testicle to see this played live during their Dortmund concert in 84', best performance of the song ever, besides when they played it in Boston back in 01' the energy in that performance in off the wall. One of the best bands ever.
Mi amigo Henry Laforgte me inicio con U2 ´por los años 92 y me encanto la sinfonia y el letrado del este gra magistral grupo. ESPERO VENGAN A PERU ... os lo DESEO
Thank goodness they've aged into gorgeous guys with bags of charisma. The Edge certainly showed us, from a very early age, what was to come! Thank you boys x
@Juan Perez yourw always going to be influenced by people you admire and subsequently "rip them off". Thats how music works. U2 loved Ian, had nothing but respect for him and JD
Old school U2 rules. The bass tone in this recording is superb.
I saw U2 in a little club in Columbus OH, 1982, for $4.50! They sounded great, and I remember thinking... "these guys are going places"! They played 'I will Follow' in the middle of the set, and again in the encore!
Jack Gabalski
Saw them same tour in San Antonio. Randy’s Rodeo on Bandera Road. Distinctly remember the encore as you described.
I remember buying this 45 single just imported at Bleeker Bob's in Greenwich Village, New York. I was just 13 years old.
I paid $17.50 back in 1983. That was alotta money for a concert ticket, back then.
I recall their name on a sign downtown London Ontario, a little club, amazing.
Jack Gabalski i would of paid $4.50 too ! Great memory bud!
Still my favorite period of U2. I bought this LP when I was 10; 40 years later, I still own it.
A kick in the head when I first heard this as a teen. Still has the same effect. Just amazing feeling listening to U2
Same for me with this and "Out of Control" those 2 are fire.
U2's "Boy" record was one of their best records.I still listen to it alot
+bunny fish I totally agree; same here
+bunny fish Yes, I have no interest in the U2 of today. I was there for this first release. The single was released in 81 in America.
Good man.
Bunny Fish, "Boy" was their first album, and this song is on two albums like "Boy" and "Best of 1980-1990."
It was their best IMO. They got way too full of themselves it seemed after this album.
A moment of silence for the Edge’s hair please
So that's why he wears a hat all the time.😂
Hahahahaha!!! I can't stop laughing.
A moment to FEEL NUMB.
i actually have that first U2 album "Boy" released 40 years ago, wow, i'm amazed it was that long ago
The Edge: Very Punk!
No matter how far you walk away Jesus follows you, waiting. He loves you.....The meaning of this song. Turn and accept his love.
The bell/glass tinging in this track is awesome!
Alexander The Great It's their producer Steve Lilywhite playing a glockenspiel. It does sound cool doesn't it.
Paul Young I was thinking that was the instrument being played in the track, but couldn't think of the name of it at the time I commented. Too, Steve Lillywhite is an awesome producer, along with Levine, Clearmountain, Hine, Horn, etc.

Right you are ! :)
+Alexander The Great And also the similar sound effects on Gloria, which was the other side of a double A side single with this.
Early U2 was so cool. They started getting a nice following when I was in high school and then became mega stars after Joshua Tree hit my freshman year in college.
There is nothing like performing in youth. All that drive and energy! It can never be captured again, no matter how good the band is playing today.
I saw them in cork in 1980 , its a night I will never forget ,they were unreal live that time.
This was the first U2 song that I ever got introduced to.

U2 highly infectious sound These 19 & 20 yr. old kids along with The Police & Journey made me love rock starting at 11 yrs old
cool, u2 and Roy Orbison set me up for a musical necessity that did eventually wantonly rock n roll
Yes!!! You nailed it....at 13....I knew nothing would might top this.....
Queen still at the top
I would not put Journey in the same league as the Police and U2. And I say that as someone who does not hate on them as much as many others do.
@@humboldtus For me, the first Journey album is in that league, of that era, however one wants to put it.

What a song. Pure musical genius - all of them.
One of the band's earliest and still one of their best. I always thought The Edge was a very underrated guitarist - that relentless driving rhythm always gives me goosepimples,
This song might be U2's best....it's passionate, full of energy, and pure. A close 2nd is U2's Gloria from the album, October.💘U2 ALWAYS💘
Exactly what I thought all this time!!! Those 2 riffs are just hypnotic!!!

"Your eyes..". That verse sends chills up my spine...
Those were the days, when U2 were a great band
40 years later. Song still kicks ass and laid a foundation of the U2 sound!🤘🤘
I'd never heard a guitar quite like this when I first heard it. The edge is a true original.

Back when I was the first kid on the block with a U2 Album!
best band ever. never repeated
In the 80's, even 90's yes agree with you.
But not what they did later...
Agreed. In fact, I think this LP was their artistic peak----and it's old as dirt. Bono became as boring as they come.
To me theyre only great in the 80's , Boy, October, War, Unforgettable fire and Joshua tree its all down hill after that.
The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There's no room
No space to rent in this town

Always great
The Knack's 3 albums are more interesting than U2's later work. Bono became self absorbed and pretentious beyond belief.
Mi amigo Henry Laforgte me inicio con U2 ´por los años 92 y me encanto la sinfonia y el letrado del este gra magistral grupo. ESPERO VENGAN A PERU ... os lo DESEO
I am in love with this video.
Love how Bono and The Edge dance, I danced the same way in the early 80's...
80s music is the best music ever! U2 is part of the proof!
My favorite from back in the day.
U2's "Boy" record was one of their best records.I still listen to it alot
Hence why after this they didnt let Bono dance again lol
He works better with a microphone in his hands. As Eddie Veddar would work a decade later.
The dawn of the 80's. The music that came out of the decade will never be matched.
It’s sad that U2 stopped being this good.
No one can be good forever
They haven't been good for a very long time now.
“I WILL FOLLOW IS MY #1 FAVORITE U2 SONG!!!!”🎸🥁🎤🎧🆒😎🔥💯✌️👍
Thank goodness they've aged into gorgeous guys with bags of charisma. The Edge certainly showed us, from a very early age, what was to come! Thank you boys x
Birth of alternative rock right here folks...
They all have baby faces. Bono was around twenty years old in this video.
Larry Mullen, Jr. was like 18.
Larry looks like he is about 6 in this vid now hes in his 50s he looks 30 lucky guy.
Born in 1960, he had just turned 20 a few months before.
U2's "Boy" record was one of their best records.I still listen to it alot
he wrote that song to his mother when she died he was 14 years old.
The Edge has hair...
Yup, not anymore though. Probably shaved it off or something...
yeah. he's hard to regornize
JUHOS3000 He's wearing a beanie hat if you see him in person!
xddddd
Soo young....songs of my youth😎😢😁
Help me I'm in LOVE..U2 FOREVER
Waooo que jovenes se ven!!!! Y tu voz no cambia mi BONO!!!! LOS AMOOOO!!!!!!2020!!!!!!!
The Joy Division is strong with this one
Awwww....man!
Like the days before Yaz, was birth control! 🤣🤣
@dread true You are right! I couldn't agree more!
I always hear the Ramones in this track
@Juan Perez yourw always going to be influenced by people you admire and subsequently "rip them off". Thats
how music works. U2 loved Ian, had nothing but respect for him and JD
The first 10 years was there best periode.
Boy and October rocked my world when I was 15. First heard U2 on the King Biscuit Flower Hour on 96 Rock in Atlanta. I became a fanatic.
The Early Days.......U2 at their best
Such a good driving song
There may be plenty of epic U2 songs, but this song just has it's own magic.
Amo essa música ❤️❤️❤️❤️
