37 points! My best game of Tiny Towns by far. Got down two trading posts in the middle of my board early and then hit 3 Cloisters in the corners, a granary surrounded by 3 cottages, two theaters worth 5 points each and two taverns. The double trading posts really helped and I got very lucky with the resources. Very fun game. Thanks for the video.
Whoa, that's easily the biggest score I've seen for this play... and maybe in all my plays. I can see how a couple early trading posts in the middle could be hugely helpful, thanks for playing :)
To be honest I love the flow of Jons games. Rahdo is riddled with analise-paralize syndrom which is very tidious to watch. I avoid Rahdo at all costs and watch all playthroughs of Jon.
I love the fact the we even have the choice 🙂. I like Jons presentation, clean and crisp and his explanations for his opinions on games often help me decide if something is for me or not. But I also love Rahdos enthusiasm and I enjoy watching his thought process quite a bit. so it’s the best of both worlds for me. Thank you to Jon and Rahdo for their hard work!
@Sandra Basel Exactly. Rahdo’s gameplay is more enthusiastic, Jon has a more informative and organized feel and, adding one more on, Knights Around a Table(don’t remember his name)is more comedic and is kind of a balance between the two. I like switching between these channels because of different presentation methods and different games that are showcased.
16 from cloister 2 from wells 5 from taverns 1 from trading post 0 from monument (Grand mausoleum) 9 from unfed cottages (Monument makes them 3 points each) -3 penalty space. 30 points. good game Really like the play along format, its a nice feel for these isolated times.
Just did the play-along! I got 39; I got the Grand Mausoleum of the Rodina monument which meant my unfed cottages were worth 3 points regardless. It meant I could ignore the granary (which is one of the hardest food buildings to manage), so all I ended up building was my monument; cloisters; cottages; and wells. Ended with two blank spaces!
Thanks Jon. It was fun to play along as I've only been able to play this game solo otherwise. My score was 33. I too built the monument right off the bat, but no understanding fully how the Trading Post worked (thinking it would be removed once its wild ability was used), I instead placed the Granary in an ideal location. My Theater did ok. Cloisters in 3 corners, 2 Taverns, and 2 Wells, both next to one cottage. I got lucky in that only two spaces remained empty in the end, the best endgame in that respect to date. :)
Learned and played along. Managed to hit 34 with Taverns and Cloisters. Trading post plus my monument allowed me to place anywhere on the board. What a fun way to learn the game.
Made it to 29. Could only manage to get 3 cloisters due to poor planning. Same poor planning meant I couldn’t quite get another cottage built, which would have scored me 3 more to tie with green. Close, but not close enough.
I used this great video as a learn-a-long. Really informative and a great way to get into the game. I managed 33 points, more by luck than judgement :D
I played along and scored 34 points, I ended up with all four cloisters in the corners (16), a granary with 5 cottages around it (15), four wells with three adjacent cottages (3), a trading post (1), and one empty square (-1)
Hi Jon You are doing a really good job, I like your videos very much. This play through was fantastic, I scored 28 with a bit of bad luck in the end :) Cheers, Jens
Awesome video and experience! I used to love WatchItPlayed's Play along/Move decision videos, and this is a great way too! Btw, I only made it to 24, details in a reply, and it seems like 4 cloisters are a must to victory here.
I followed along using dry-erase boards and your monument card. I got 26 ... using the beginner "cavern" rules of ignoring 2 resource draws. Without that I'm at 17 -_- Should have gone for the cloisters. Btw. is there any reason neither you nor green tried for a 5th cloister? That would be another 4 points, wouldn't it?
I know the trading post counts as a wild resource for building. Basically the building acts as any resource you want it to be for building. My question is, is it based on where the building actually is on the board. So the square that the trading post is on has to be part of what you are trying to build, or does the effect work anywhere on the board?
Around the 32 minutes mark, if I were the green player, I would have played the stone so that the turn after I could have chosen a brick and finish a fifth cloister. Now, this 5th cloister would not be in a corner, but it would still be a 4 points building. I don't own the game and therefore I am not sure if this is allowed, but I do not see any reason why not. This would leave the center of the board still very open for the green player.
I was wondering about that too, it just says 4 points for each Cloister that's in a corner, doesn't say they have to be in one. Wouldn't surprise me if that's clarified in the rules though.
I have watched a few playthroughs of this game and am looking forward to getting it to my "impossible to find games for game group of 6"! One question though: is the use of the cube cards optional? I don't see anyone else mention or use them. Trying to figure out how you came about this play style as I appreciate it contributing to the true randomness of the game rather than the hammer just being passed around the table and picking what that person needs on their turn.
The cube cards are an optional variant, the main way to play is just having each player decide a cube for everyone and then passing the hammer on. I have played this way at 6p a few times and it works very well.
Close...31 for me. But I didn’t give myself a monument card to work with (I don’t actually own the game...I’m playing along to see if it’s worth getting for me). I wonder if I could have won with a monument.
It's quite low, in my experience the longest anyone has had to wait is ~5 minutes. To me it doesn't even feel like player elimination since by the time people start passing the game is usually just about over for everyone.
Wow! I don’t really know if that’s a good score or not since I don’t have the game yet 😂 Judging by different videos of gameplay, it seems like you did a fantastic job though. I’m looking into buying the game and have watched many game of it and it seems like a game that my friends and family would enjoy.
9 years ago I thought I wanted to be a game designer and I bought a bunch of bits from a variety of locations. Those cubes were purchased from someone on a design online group who bought 10x more than they needed and sold the rest out. They are nice to have around :)
Sometimes things can go sideways in this game and small decisions ripple into big problems. I'm sure you learned from how it went though, to see how to avoid some of those problems next time :)
This game reminds me of "Between Two Cities" One problem I notice with this game is that players could copy other players. Maybe to improvise, the game could be played with a Barrier so that players can't see what the other players are doing?

@@sandrabasel1545 Fully agree there. For each his/her own.
It did replace Rahdo's for me long time ago

I scored 25... not my best, but not my worst either. Thanks Jon, this was fun!
Nice, looks like I somehow just barely squeeked ahead of you then :) Glad you enjoyed it!

Great score! That monument is super powerful, I had used it in my very first play.
I love your tutorial+play along/through format!
Made it to 29.
Could only manage to get 3 cloisters due to poor planning. Same poor planning meant I couldn’t quite get another cottage built, which would have scored me 3 more to tie with green. Close, but not close enough.
Nice! Those cloisters are great for points but building them gets tight for sure (unless you are Green).

This video was so great, I would love to see more play along videos! Quacks of Quedlinburg and Ubongo come to mind.
Play along videos require an almost 100% player solitaire game design so it is rare for them to work like this unfortunately.
25:11 (places well) “that’s going to work out well.” Zing

Excellent play through. Thank you!

Your well and last placed glass should have been placed in opposite positions to squeeze out a precious extra point :D
I try to play well, but do often miss good alternate moves unfortuanetly.
Scored 34. Thanks, this was fun
Thank you Jon, your videos really help me to understand how to play many games. By the way... Score = 23. (First ever attempt) UK
Awesome video and experience!

Used the same monument to build a trading post, which help a lot with building 5 cottages (3 fed), a granary, 3 cloisters and 3 wells.
@@tamiraloush7236 Nice. I agree that cloisters in this set did seem to be the main way to go, thanks for playing :)
At [20:52] the configuration on the board is the mirrored version of the configuration that the card calls for. Is that a legal move?
Jon said at the beginning of the video (when explaining the rules) that mirroring images where ok. So I guess it is legal.
Yeah. It missed that during the first view, now after reviewing the teaching sections I got it, too. Thanks.
I followed along using dry-erase boards and your monument card. I got 26 ... using the beginner "cavern" rules of ignoring 2 resource draws. Without that I'm at 17 -_-
Should have gone for the cloisters. Btw. is there any reason neither you nor green tried for a 5th cloister? That would be another 4 points, wouldn't it?
Cloisters have to go in the corners
@@stuarthickton372 where does it say that?
Very enjoyable. Fun game

It indeed is based on the specific location where the trading post is in relation to the pattern of the new building you are trying to construct.

Huh, building a 5th cloister didn't even occur to me. I agree that it does seem like that would be worth another 4 points.
great vid, fantastic game. Well worth buying and I love my copy.
i love the video and play along!! i got 32 xD, i think you could have optimized those well at the end
Yeah I certainly could have played this one better :P Great score!

Great score without a monument, depending on which one you could have had I do think you had a solid shot.
This game looks so fun but I don't like the player elimination element. On average how long do players have to wait for other players after they pass?

Dang they found all the big reviewers to market this.
I ended up buying a copy and played along! I got 36 points!
1 trading post = 1 point
2 fed Cottages = 6 points
4 corner cloisters = 16 points
3 taverns = 9 points
0 theatres = 0 points
3 wells (0|1|2 points per) = 3 points
The Sky Baths monument = 2 points
1 empty square = -1 point
Take that, green player!

Hello john, where did you get those player marker cubes from?
9 years ago I thought I wanted to be a game designer and I bought a bunch of bits from a variety of locations. Those cubes were purchased from someone on a design online group who bought 10x more than they needed and sold the rest out. They are nice to have around :)
Great video! I ended up with 30.
Great score! Thanks for playing.
I got 26 points which is not bad for first solo game......got too hung up on unique buildings
Not bad at all :)
I got 21 points
I only had 2empty spots
Scored 32 😊🎉
Needed one last brick for 32 but ended up with 29.
Great score!
Only one criticism. If you don#t have the game, but want to play along, you should have given a random monument to the viewers. Thanks though.
I must be bad at this game. I got 8 points. =(
Sometimes things can go sideways in this game and small decisions ripple into big problems. I'm sure you learned from how it went though, to see how to avoid some of those problems next time :)
i scored 33

This game reminds me of "Between Two Cities"

thats why monuments exist
I scored 23 :(
Hey, that's still fine! Lots of ways to go wrong when building these towns :)
