    I don't why this game popped into my head today, but I just bought it on Amazon while watching this video and I remember how much fun I had with my Tabletop club when I was in college. Only ever played co-op mode though.

    This looks really fun. I ordered the game from the States in March... just as everything got locked down. I finally got it today, six months later (!), and I'm more excited than ever to play it!

    Thanks for this video. I found the instruction manual very lacking in detail. especially the description of the various cards. The video helped a great deal.
    This game was not on my radar. I received the expansion 'The name of the wild' as an xmas gift, without owning the base game. I took a chance and bought the base game and it is a fun, quick and story driven game. Thanks again.

    Another great video! What really sets this game apart is pausing after the gameplay to create a complete character story. Taking your character's story into a game where character creation is done before the game starts, such as Legacy of Dragonholt, allows you to chain the two games together. I like this idea.

    The rune pool mechanic is a really nice update to the dice throwing mechanic. Thanks for mentioning the odds, it really helped understanding the choices the players made.

    As a Dungeons and Dragons player I can really appreciate what this game is trying to do. I love how instead of dice players use those two sided runes and build a 'hand' of them based on what attributes they have which in turn are based on what challenges and choices the players have made, more games should do stuff like that. In addition, I like the three act system: first act pretty much represents a player character's upbringing and initial 'education' that helps determine what direction they'll lean for later acts, second act being the beginning of an adventuring career where they throw themselves out there and fairly straightforward challenges, and the final act is when you really get into the epic history determining events. It really does come together to truly tell a story of a given character which is a great touch, I love it when theme integrates so well into a game. Overall this is a very cool game revolving around two major mechanics of set collection and dice/rune chucking. Excellent playthrough as always and nice story telling there at the end.

    Seems like a lot of lot is involved, and trying to not get too far behind other players in terms of cards. but this looks really intriguing. I saw it last month at my flgs, but there was hardly any information out about it. i really appreciate the hard work you put into this! I'd keep an interest on it.

    This was the first time in my life when I didn`t understand how to play the game by reading the rulebook. My main complaint about the rulebook is that you don`t start explaining actions etc. without explaining the card anatomy and some terms first. I have read some heavy eurogame rulebooks, but this time I just lost my patience after page 4. So, thank you, Jon, for explaining the game for me!

    Good video, as always. As for the game, I love the art, and I got really excited about it when I heard your description of the premise, but unfortunately, the game doesn’t really do it for me. Seems like a fiddlier, more complicated version of Splendor.

    Hello. Thanks for this tutorial! At around 4:50 in your video, you are talking about the "Harness Dark Power" card. You indicate that the bottom icon above the card name is a "Wisdom" icon. Actually, it is an "Intelligence" icon. The "Wisdom" icon is the one immediately above the title of "The Academy" card.

    I just got this game and we tried it out. We got most of it right but we didn't know once you pass an act you can't do it's challenges anymore. Also didn't know you could only use hero cards to boost attributes in the challenge, as the book was cryptic about it

    Hi Jon, I saw some pix in BGG where the virtue tracker is a black moon instead of a white sun. I thought it was the underside of the sun, and when the hero gets his tracker to the corrupt area it flips to the moon side. But in your playthrough it stays as a sun, is this a prototype you are playing?

    I think I probably missed or forgot but if an ally is put under a card like the ones in the vid and you see it at the top of the card do you have to do the top of the challenge to get the ally or can you still get the ally from the bottom challenge as well?

    At 01:36:00 is there any reason to choose the dark rune over using their special ability to gain a Strength Rune?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  5 лет назад +1

      Honestly I forgot about their motivation ability, they certainly should have used that instead of adding a dark rune. Fortunately it didn't seem to affect them negatively in the end with that rune cast.

    Still working my way through the video, looks interesting and it's informative as always. But at @38:52 you're tossing a black rune, but you never show it being added to the pool and I'm not seeing anything in the Klingon subtitles about it. Did that step accidentally get cut maybe?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  5 лет назад

      Huh, yeah it appears them paying an experience to cast that rune was cut out of the final video. They do end up having their experience go away so I think this was played correctly but I just accidentally cut more video off than I intended. I'll add a note about it to the Klingon subtitles now, thanks!

  • @CaptainSportExtreme
    @CaptainSportExtreme 5 лет назад

    Very nice game, I am quite interesred in taking it. The art is amazing and the rune thing was very cool.
    However I don't know the specific rules but I am pretty sure you read and resolved People's Champion and Intrepid Explorer wrong. It says 1 VP for each "rune type" OR "[other] rune type". Meaning you have to pick the ones you collected most in which case your designated player earned less points (didn't matter for the last player as he didn't have any of the other rune type). If you compare it with Paragon of Light, your version of the cards would be too strong, they would gain far more points with far less efforts.
    What do you think about this insight?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  5 лет назад

      Hmm, no one has mentioned this before. I feel like being a strict "or" would be punitive though. The Paragon of light gets you more points for getting points already so I can see those dovetailing well together. If this ends up being wrong then I can put corrections in, but at the moment I think this is the intended interpretation.

    • @CaptainSportExtreme
      @CaptainSportExtreme 5 лет назад

      @@JonGetsGames I thought more of a 1st condition gets you a small amount of VP, the other a bigger amount based on how you built your story.
      I looked at the rune types as something too strong to be true, there is no disadvantage in building at least 2 rune types provided they appear on the board and they aren't taken by opponents.
      Paragon of Light gives you no more than 3 based on a small condition. The other gives you more based on how you picked and played your cards just like the 2 other cards. Yes Paragon gave lots of points but it doesn't seem that easy to stay in the light as you can see for your character. Even by using tons of experience to tweak the dark runes you still ended up corrupted. 2nd player just had luck of the draw, roll and played well.
      But I get what you meant. I guess I'll discover that when I get it cause it sure convinced me a lot
