I trust anyone’s steak pie recipe who has an accent like that.
Yummy, im an English Gal living in Alberta,Canada now. When the weather gets brutally cold here i always make British pies. ❤❤❤
Comfort in the extreme, I love it. Thank you. Best, Rik
3:01 - 'Rite I'm just wingin this pie really I dunt 'av a recipe' 👏👏🤣 I love it. You'll not get a more honest & Yorkshire than that straight outta God's very own County/Country. I'm not a chef yet I love watching a master at work Rik is the only chef I watch online, inspires me to cook so I am going to use one or two recipes and all I can do is try! Thank You Rik @BKYDchef for the inspiration, bless ya.
Its all true! Just go for it. Thank you. Best, Rik
I always use streaky bacon in a beef stew 2 or 3 rashers chopped into quarter inch squares then fried until almost brown, add the onions to soften then add garlic until you can smell the aroma being careful not to burn it,add the beef , seal it,, then add any woody herbs.
Of course when I watched my mum cooking in the 1950’s we didn’t have garlic. It was parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. Mint sauce with roast beef, parsley sauce with fish. Chopped mushrooms with thick cream and good steak when Uncle Sam came back from Palestine.
🎉(He was a butcher.) 😎
Thank you. Best, Rik
Very nice pie Sir! Keep the good stuff coming.
Thanks, will do! Best, Rik
Been a fan of British pies for decades and after watching several seasons of All Creatures Great and Small, I need more British pies for Christmas! Cheers, mate!
Hope you enjoy - Best, Rik
That pie makes me proud of my English ancestors.
Wow! Thank you. Best, Rik
Congratulations on reaching 100k, Rik.
I like this version of the pie. I don't eat organ meat so the fresh mushrooms make a nice addition.
Thank you. Best, Rik
And today's dinner is.....
Thank you. Best, Rik
Hi Rick I notice you are using what looks like a camping stove if you are do you find it more cost effective than mains gas thank you
Hey mate - no its not cost effective if you cook a lot. the gas cartridges are small. They run out at the wrong times. Its for convenience for filming. Best, Rik
Just made this today! Wow! And the pastry was perfect!
Thank u!
Thank you, and thanks for sharing. Best, Rik
It's looks so delicious 😋 but would have to be mash with it , hungry now 😋 enjoy
Thank you. Best, Rik
Thanks Rik! I made this two nights ago and we're enjoying the remainder of the pie tonight - it's absolutely delicious!
Thank you. Best, Rik
I've never made this, but I have a stray bottle of Guinness in the fridge. Seems like a good start! Looks delicious ❤ 😋
Sounds like a great plan. Best, Rik
Our lass can't eat pastry, so we just had the pie filling with mashed potatoe and a glass of red, or two. Very nice, will do again and would happily feed to guests.
Thanks Chef!
Lovely! Thank you. Best, Rik
Dear Backyard, thank you for showing me a beer free version. Can I use just clarified butter and not use oil.
Yes indeed! Thank you. Best, Rik
Love this 😊what stock do you use please chef
Hi Kellie the stock is made up of Knorr beef powder - They label is here as brown sauce - or failing that I use the knorr Demi glace powder regularly. Beef cubes work just fine. Best, Rik
Don't you put the Garlic in last, to prevent it from scorching and therefore tasting bitter?
Up to you mate. Thank you. Best, Rik
Another cracking recipe Rik👌🏻
Steak & kidney is my favourite and I think it would work well in your recipe?
Thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Steak and Kidney will be up in a couple of weeks. Look out for the new channel coming in May - all curries and related the easy way. Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef Sounds great Rik
Where’s the peas?
Yes love pie chips and peas - pie mash and peas. Best, Rik
Can you cook the meat and onions I a slow cooker pleased.
Yes indeed! Thank you. Best, Rik
that looks absolutely delicious. I need to try this out!🤤
I want one of those fries with some of that gravy on it.
Thank you. Best, Rik
That British Beef Pie looks like it belongs on my plate.
Along with the thick gravy topped on your fries, if you covered that with cheese curds, you would have Poutine, which is a Canadian creation from Montreal. Popular with the young people here.
Thank you. You many have to giver me the word on that one. I was going to make it. Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef You would want to make it Montreal Style since that is close to where it originated and is considered the best version.
Use fresh cheese curds for best results. If that's not possible, mozzarella cut up in small pieces or any other soft, mild white cheese will do. A nice onion, beefy gravy with fried peppers, mushrooms, chopped bacon mixed in with oven-baked or deep-fried, crispy, seasoned, thick hand-cut fries (skin on), then at the last moment lightly mix in your cheese, so that it is just superficially melted from the heat of the fries and gravy (you can still see the cheese chunks). This should give you the best results. Similar to what is served in the best Poutine restaurant in Montreal.
Accompanied by a nice craft beer of course.
Looking forward to seeing you make this meal and introducing this iconic Canadian dish to your cooking fans!
@@Curlyblonde I'm so please you are on here. Thank you. Best, Rik
that looks really good, true beef pie. what was the see through cooker you were using to cook the pie ?
One like this amzn.to/48Lvzor Halogen cooker. Best, Rik
Definitely no to the mushrooms and garlic. Now I can’t decide wether to have roasties mash or chips with it 😂
Chips! Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef with mushy peas and a splash of gravy and a cup of Yorkshire tea 👍

Do you grease your tin before placing the meat, i find when i make pies i never get a firm bottom on my pies. I love your recipes i have a notebook and written your recipes down for future use
I always line the tins with parchment paper/greaseproof. Thank you. Best, Rik

A nice buttery mash - delicious. Best, Rik
Thank you! Really straightforward instructions. I made this pie today... delicious.
Glad you liked it! Yes lets keep it all simple. Best, Rik
Rik had this for dinner tonight, can you believe my husband said " well it's better than a Fray Bentos Pie" what an outrageous comment!!! I said to him that is such an insult to your cooking and my following 😂😂😂😂😂 it is SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT how rude!!! He very quickly backtracked x
Ha ha ha - love honesty! psssst Love Fray Bentos pies too! Thank you. Best, Rik
Hi Rick what temperature setting would you recommend doing this in the Hysapienta oven looks brilliant 😋😋
Hi mate, about 175 degrees on the bottom rack toast setting, for about 30 -35 mins. Just watch it don't want to overcook the top.
Thanks Rick can’t wait to try it 👍👍
Omg Rik that pie just looked the best. Can’t wait to try it. Omg I love your enthusiasm when cooking I’m exactly the same lol I just love cooking for people thanks by the way love your accent.
Hope you enjoy. Thank you. Best, Rik

yup. Best, Rik
Please show how you got it out of the pie tin !!
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
OK next time Cheryl I will. I put a plate over it turned it upside down then turned it back up again. Next time I promise. Best, Rik
I love the pie idea. Alternative ideas: instead of button mushrooms use creminis, or even smoked creminis, then add to beef, if smoke add Everglade seasoning. Add a little chipolata or ancho pepper powder to beef. A little soy sauce could be nice. I am going to try this with alterations and report back.
Great idea! Thank you. Best, Rik
I could live off of these wonderful pies! I like to layer thin sliced potatoes in mine. Great recipe, thanks!
Thank you. Best, Rik
Looks delicious, I made your pork pie the other day it was excellent and went down well with the lads at my local.
Cheers Andrew - this is a tasty pie for sure. Best, Rik
Love homemade pie much better than shop brought...this is one l have to bake..thankyou Rik...❤
Thank you. Best, Rik
Looks great. I can't wait to try it
So yummy and looking forward to making this pie... thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you Elizabeth. Best, Rik
Looks delicious! Gonna try this out, I think I’d like to add carrots to mine. I’ve also seen it where the pie is baked for a time until the crust sets a bit, then it is flipped upside down and the pie plate removed, the bottom gets egg washed and then baked for a bit longer so the bottom is more brown and flaky like the top.
Sounds like a great idea. Best, Rik
I am now very hungry.
OMG! This was NOT what I needed to watch when hungry!
Looks amazing
Sorry Jean - it is very tasty indeed. Best, Rik
I just found your channel, and you have some amazing ideas. Thank you.
Glad you like them! Thank you 😋 Best, Rik
Solid lad. A pie has pastry all around the filling, not just lying on top😏
Agreed! Thank you. Best, Rik
Hi Rik again, really love following and doing your no-fuse cooking. Must say it's becoming addictive, but enjoy every video. Keep doing what you're doing and a warm thank you for your channel.

@@BackyardChef thanks Rik and a warm thank you for your reply 👍
Why didn’t you colour the beef and deglaze. The gravy won’t be anywhere near as good
Up to you. Thank you. Best, Rik
a couple of tablespoons of heavy cream in the gravy would be good
Thank you. Best, Rik
I'll be making this for the British expats here in Qatar
Thank you. Best, Rik
Im drooling! Your pastry looks amazing Rik
Thank you. Best. Rik
lovely cracking pie that Rik we bought some kidneys to make a steak and kidney pudding, probably my all time favourite, a bit of messing about making the suet pastry and steaming it but a great end result.

I hate mushrooms with a passion Rik, but not being a selfish type, I am going to make this for the rest of the family. I don't think I can possibly go wrong with this one, but I'll probably be on cheese on toast when they're eating it.
Miss the mushrooms out Ian - swap it for potato but cook the potato cubs for about 20 mins in with the meat then make up the pie and cook in the oven. Best, Rik
I make a bunch of pies. Excited to watch you make your pie. I just subscribed to you. Awesome.
Hope you enjoy. Thanks mate. Best, Ruj

As much as I love pies, I can’t seem to get the filling into the crust. Yeah, I eat the filling as a stew before I can finish the crust.😂 😊
