So one thing that is also thoughtful to consider is that $600 was spent, and 6713 streams were achieved at the outset. When I use the Spotify streaming royalty calculator, it seems thats only $15.98 in income. This is definitely a long term play, because its what happens AFTER the ad is over that continues on without spending continuous money which is how many of those listens achieved a follower so that upon your next release, ORGANICALLY you capture more fans, and how to turn those regular organic fans into SUPER FANS(those that will continue to come back to listen, stream, spend money on merch and live event). thats the OVERT BENEFIT:) great video and great content and thank you for doing it! super helpful

It’s a lot of money upfront to get places with this kinda stuff. I hate that it’s those who have a ton of money can win. $600 is a major computer upgrade, a new quality guitar, a new instrument in general, it’s a good camera to film your own music video with. Hell it’s enough to turn your rehearsal space into a live streaming setup to make a ton of money on twitch (i know several people who invested less and now make thousands a month). It’s a pay to play show IRL in front of 1000s of people you can connect with IRL and sell merch to. I feel like there are better ways to spend $600 than JUST on Spotify plays to grow your music. Of course if you already have the other stuff down it’s a great use of that money! Especially if you just have it lying around. As i started, it feels a bit unfair to those who worked their butt off doing the above stuff and some rich person can just buy their fans/plays and succeed in the long game. Still your music has actually gotta be good to get a super fan. It’s not about this song it’s about how many can convert to super fans. And if this works great, but the question is, did it work? Have you noticed an uptick in merch sales? Followers? Saves? Etc. I have yet to upload anything to Spotify (i had a few songs released on platforms that don’t exist anymore), but i plan on releasing some stuff this year. Anyway good video! (Sorry if it wasn’t clear that I liked it).

I think I am doing something wrong with the Ad itself, I just had my audio and a video (I didn't introduce myself as a artist) but yea... no luck. @CHOEY G thank you for taking the time to reply! May I ask if you spent the 250 for 30 days? And I've been gaining more and more streams and listeners with instagram ads! Didn't think it would work but surprisingly it has! I just "boost reel" or "boost post" but the key is on the targeted audience! The countries you select and the interests you select. Make sure you select top tier countries so your ad budget doesn't get thrown to counties where there is no spotify or people don't use it as much! Ages 18-100 male and female
@CHOEY G oh and you only spend about 8 dlls for like a good 200 clicks (give or take) which results in 200 more listeners for that month

They're pretty close actually as long as you have a good call to action and a catchy part of your song. Then it comes down to targeting. My tests have both outperformed an "audio" only

It does, you'll know if the streams were botted by the payouts a few months based on your royalty payouts a few months later. An artist that I had worked with botted their streams so I found it interesting ~20,000 streams and only a few dollars paid out lol. One of my other songs with ~10,000 paid out around 20ish bucks after a few months.

I like this guide and was going to create my first Spotify ads campaign when I found out that you need a VAT number to complete the campaign! So before you waste your time creating a campaign make sure that you have a registered business, I don't since I'm an independent artist. If you find a way to get around this please let me know :)

Thanks for the video! Correct me if I'm wrong on your first calculation of 6700 streams for the month you roughly made $20.00, so you're in the hole $580.00. What is important is long term listeners/fans. Are you seeing long term fans that stay with you over time as a result of your ads?
I had been using Google ads they far cheaper but It wasn't driving the traffic I had hoped for. Maybe I'll give Spotify ads a try, and thanks again.
I had the same basic question, so you spent $600 made a couple mistakes, so how much did you make or probably lose? I don't care what the marketing gimmick is, today or 50 years ago with mass mailers for example. In the end you say here is what we spent and here is where we landed when it was all said and done. He never said where he came out financially.

@@rebelroggotta have money to make money! You’re in it for the long haul with this most of the time. “Blowing up” isn’t really real. Look at most popular artists. lil Tecca for example. He’s been releasing music like 3 or 4 years prior consistently before he got traction on one of his songs. Jack Harlow 10 years. Drake has his advantage with being a kid actor and still took like 8 years. It’s a slow burn, a pot that’s getting hot but yet to boil.

Yeahhhh, it's rough music wise. My most viewed song is just under 900 views on RUclips. I have my stuff available on all streaming platforms, but I feel like the $$ I've spent on ads has only been half worth it. Granted I didn't start this project until this past January. Definitely an informative video though!

On my best campaign I spent 250 dollars on an AD and got 2,218 clicks, 3.38% CTR, 1,167 listeners and 861 new listeners with an average of 8.29 streams per listener. In my case it was viable for people like me who make songs of existing IP's whether they be originals, remixes or covers of them. I ran an audio/image ad, explained the feeling/genres of the songs in the playlist, targetted the artist related to the series/genre and let it run for a month.
Everyone's case is different, though. I wouldn't recommend it with singles as I had a spotify playlist, the two singles I promoted didn't perform as well. But I may just need to tweak and play with them more and experiment with more than just two songs.

one thing to note, is that if you are in the UK or outside of the US I believe, you have to have a VAT (Value Added Tax) number. I'm an independent artist with a new, small business as a record label, and I do not have a VAT number yet as the business has to hit a certain threshold of revenue. Spotify confirmed to me that I cannot run ads because of this, which is so insanely stupid i can't even wrap my head around it.

The issue with most artists is that they don’t even take themselves serious enough to invest a couple of hundred dollars a month. Think that you’re a company. Gotta invest hundreds of thousands of dollars, get frustrated a lot until you start seeing it paying back.
Also, trying to work with a label, even if an independent one helps a lot improving your consistency and vision of market.
Maybe I’m not a successful artist yet, but hope this helps someone taking theirselves more seriously.
There's no magic formula, you can be a great artist but not reach the fan base that would support you. It takes major labels millions to break a new artist and sometimes it never happens for that artist. You just never know what people will like and support.
Yep I’m about to release my first single next week for my EP and I’m finally at a point where I will spend hundreds on advertising. $250 is nothing compared to what it could do for me !

Start where you can, FB Ads, features or just build organically.
Pretty sure you can set it at $250 and stop the campaign early whenever you feel like; you only pay for when it was active

Do you know if listeners is a separate number from new listeners? E.g. If you have 6 listeners & 4 new listeners, is that 10 total people who streamed your music it? OR is it just that of the 6 total people who streamed your music, 4 of them were new? Great video btw.

Really helpfull but I have a question. During the first step of the campaing, on the ad account setup, it says to choose my country or region. I am from Greece and unfortunately, it is not an available option. Can I still proceed with a different country or do I wait for my country to be included in the list?
Absolutely!!! target surrounding countries if you are able to tour there, that will be best longterm ROI :)
is the voice over in your add something that is generated on spotify ? or did you uploaded your vertifcal video with a voice-over?
It's a sneaky trick :) I first create a Spotify "Audio" Ad and get them to do the voiceover, then I take that audio clip and put over top of my video! Hope that helps!

You can turn off the ad before it spends... but honestly unless you're gonna go all in don't do it. $20-100 isn't going to give you the result you want... better to put it into a feature.
Yea I feel it, I’ve noticed the best way to get streams starting off is google ads for RUclips vids, and social media ads for views/ likes/ subscribers/ and followers; such as Instagram and Facebook, and tiktok since about 46% of Artist that were signed last year was from tiktok, Spotify has been the hardest for me so far Apple Music is even easier than Spotify because people can see your page and aslong as it looks official it’ll reel them in.. but as Spotify shows your monthly listeners and not everyone has the time to listen to a whole playlist & a $250 minimum for promotions just to get to your song, it makes u look less together than you actually are
