I've flashed it twice and each time the analogue controls were not registering at all. Not in any menus or any games, including ports. The only reason I got the new version was to fix analogue controls (snapping). Has anyone else had this problem?
Do note: 1. If you're in the Discord server, someone is maintaining a script to do boxart scraping. So sooner or later an update might add something more akin to the way OnionOS automatically scrapes box art natively on the handheld's OS. (There's someone else porting freaking Dolphin on here but I'm not spoiling any more surprises) 2. Latest MuOS has "friendly folder name" function which means you can name your folder "FC" and on the content browser that folder will be seen as "Nintendo - Famicom". The folder isn't renamed itself. 3. Likely incremental updates after this release ("BANANA") can be done losslessly by just downloading a much smaller file on the website and using the Application - Archive Manager to extract from it. 4. Non-English viewers who might have had reservations on this OS, "BANANA" has multi-language support!!!
Hey one question here, do they already support Bluetooth as well? Last time I've checked the only OS on the 35XX SP that supported Wifi, Bluetooth, HDMI, tap power button to swap dpad to analog and back and the close the lid to shutdown was the stockOS. Hey Russ, great vídeo! One important correction: BIOS: The dreamcast bios file should go into a /DC subfolder ( /muos/bios/DC ) or else the emulators will not find it and use the HLE bios with worst performance. It is a libreto standard and not something muOS could change while using RetroArch.
The timing of your videos is always great, I've had my SP for a few months but was too lazy to put a custom OS on it. Now that I will use it more I was planning to finally put muOS after I saw the latest update.
Muos is great. I installed the update the "wrong" way once... and it still worked! I will still redo my install completely one day to make sure I didn't screw anything up but so far it works absolutely fine.
Great video - I've had a lovely time converting my 35XXSP over to MUOS. Love the attention to detail during the init phase. The sound effects are particularly great and oh so retro. Felt like I duno something out of say a low budget Roger Corman Sci-Fi flick - in otherwords awesome!!!
Did you notice a difference with the new " Gamma's analog stick fix"? I would love to see if that helped with the cardinal direction snapping. I have a 40xxH that should be here this week and that would sell me on muOS! Thanks for the guide.
I got a 35xxsp earlier this week and since getting it I have fallen in love with MuOS. I had baked beans on it for like a day before banana came out and then moved over to banana, and it has been awesome. Also, the discord server is a great place to be, everyone seems helpful and passionate about this operating system...but then there is silliness as well, like the ko-fi supporters are voting on the name of the next version and the debates can be silly fun.
This might become a worthy Onion OS competitor. Where Onion shines is their Netplay features (both for couch co-op as well as link cable with TGB Dual). But even from what I saw in this video I'm more tempted than ever to consider an RG40XX-V. :P
I just picked up an rg35xxsp and put MuOS on it and its really great. The only big drawback is the lack of bluetooth support right now but I know they are working on it. I really wish anbernic made this exact device except with a bit beefier processor and some more ram. I was really bummed to see that Cave CV1000 games aren't running on this at least not on fbneo. Great video.
Thank you for making this guide for us Ross, I can't wait to setup muOS if I get an Anbernic RG35XX H of my own and the analog stick fix that came out with the new release is going make playing PS1, N64, and Dreamcast games all the better without dealing with the cardinal snapping these devices have. One thing I really wish the muOS developers would implement is Bluetooth support, I'm surprised Bluetooth functionality isn't been put back in muOS when the other OS options still have Bluetooth support.
I was a huge GarlicOS user for the original RG35XX. When I got the RG35XX Plus, I started experimenting with other custom firmwares. MinUI and muOS have been my favorites so far. MinUI unfortunately introduced stuttering issues with all the updates since January and I stopped trying to solve it mid year and switched to muOS. I haven’t touched my installation since. All that to say: I’m looking forward to seeing a good overview of what the latest versions have to offer. I might reinstall after grabbing my snack and drink. Actually, my breakfast and coffee.
EDIT: Ross seems to be fond of working directly with the SD2 card, but as many porters working on portmaster ports know: SCP/SFTP is invaluable. Just connect to wifi, activate them, and just push anything you want to the device directly. No cursing that you have just clipped your nails. If you like ArkOS for its ability to quickly save state, shutdown and power on and immediatelly back into your RA game with quick resume, youll going to be blown away by muOS. I also love the quick, mostly text focused menu (using VBgo theme), because, after a while, I stopped caring about box art and just spend my time playing games on a tram, bus, metro, waiting at the doctors or whatever. 5 mins is good enough for a quick game with muOS.
Overall great guide, but I'm a little surprised that you didn't cover adding system art. I personally find that having an icon for each emulated system really adds to the visual appeal of muOS, and makes it a little bit faster and easier to navigate the systems menu.
