Baby Monster was selected to be rappers, singers, dancers and visuals. The girls trained mostly as hip hop rap YG artists with the occasional High note for colour for 4 plus years but a clear directional shift towards higher range vocalists occurred in their Last Evaluation series which did surprise the girls. Watch their introduction series and Last Evaluation series if you want to do a deep dive.
They have great personalities as well! They really are the whole package of skills in vocals, rap, dance, and personality. One member (Asa) also already participated in writing for Batter Up.
You should check their live performance version and then you will know how amazing they are.
Yes, it is true that some people were saying Batter Up sounded like a Blackpink song but others were saying they wanted to hear Babymonster's beautiful vocals because of all their pre-debut content. Singing a ballad for the 2nd song was a calculated risk but it worked. They are extremely versatile.
Please check out the "Special Stage" and "Live Stage" of this song, respectively. Each is slightly better than the previous.

Don't know if you want to react to the series since each episode is about 18 -20 mins long and is more along the lines of their journey toward debut. Like with most K-pop group, the LAST EVALUATION shows their last two months of their evaluation as trainees and the stress that they go through as the company is making their decision on the final line-up. Some people want to call it an elmination show but this is how thet groups are formed where each month they are evaluated on their performances to see if they have improvement and if they can work as a group.
They also have performances on the YG channel from their monthly evaluations is how we were introduced to the girls one by one each week after they announced that they are debuting a new girl group. It was exciting since YG only had two other girl groups in the past and between 2NE1 and BLACKPINK was 7 years which is the same between BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER. So it was a big deal that they announced a new girl group. Then the individual live performances started to drop once per week. We know that some of these were older footage since the girls seemed to be about at least a couple of years younger which got everyone intrigued about the group.
Watch their pre debut song Dream with 7 girls. Baby Monster is actually OT7. The six launched last year with Batter up and SITM with one girl sick and will debut in April 2024

RAMI/SHIN HARAM, AHYEON/JUNG AHYEON and RORA/LEE DAIN are my favorite members in BABYMONSTER. I really love their voices. They are so talented. They are so good at singing. Their vocals are superb. I love them so much. They have so much potential. They are great.
Their sound are even better in the live stage, trust me.

Finally someone mentioned about YG released SITM because of backlash from the Batter Up sound. That's just a total BS for me. Like they said it's not easy to finish a new song faster just to overcome some shortcoming of the previous release. It was a planned move by YG. I don't believe if YG do something just because of what the fans/or not said.
Yes, it's already proven that SITM was recorded long before criticism of Batter Up started. Asa took out her ipad to draw in the behind the scenes of SITM MV and her ipad has a date on it. The filming of the MV was way too far back for the song to have been just a response to the Batter Up criticism.
