  • Skid Row is a band that has stood the test of time for their genre of music. After platinum success and worldwide recognition, they decided it was time for a new singer. Very few bands survive this kind of change, especially when that singer is one the best voices in metal. After 30+ years Skid Row rediscovers their origins with a new album, "The Gangs All Here". We learn their process and how they meet their new singer, Erik Gronwall. All three members of the band, Erik, Snake, and Rachel sit with us in a three way exclusive interview. Epic! Only on 80sMRB. I was convinced when I went to see them live… in a sold out venue a couple weeks ago. They were ridiculously good… Erik was so full of energy and had so much control of the stage…while hitting all the notes and staying on pitch. And a huge smile and personality that oozes from the stage. People can debate these things forever on the internet…but, I left a fan.

Saw them this past weekend in a 5,000 seat venue that was pretty close to sold out. I was talking to the guy sitting next to me and he said he was really there to see Great White and that he hasn't been much into Skid Row since Bach left. He wasn't even aware of who the new singer was or that Skid Row had a new album out. I told him to give it a chance and that I bet he'd enjoy the show. Well, after 2 songs the guy was slapping high fives with me and rocking out lol. After the show he was like, "Dude, that was awesome!". He remarked that he'd be pulling up the new album on his spotify and listening to it on his drive home. Erik is just infectious in a live setting and has a way of making people fans. I saw it when he was in his previous band H.E.A.T and now seeing it again. And he's even turned things down a notch in Skid Row by cutting out the crowd surfing he always would do. And above all, he just sounds great and does the old songs justice while also sounding great on the new songs.

For Skid Row, to get Erik Gronwall today, is the equivalent of CCR getting Sebastian Bach in 1991. That is no exaggeration.

Like many of my contemporaries have stated no Sebastian no skid row, it is simple and plain
Eric is a fine singer, but Sebastian was an incredible front man and rockstar who actually breathe life into the music they wrote lol , when they are on stage with Eric singing, it sounds like they are cover band of themselves, which is utterly embarrassing to them, and Eric
Many of you like Eric and cheer him on, and think he has revitalize his band, the simple fact of the matter is he has not their new album isn’t relevant nor will it be. They may become more relevant to fans if they ever got back with Sebastian but otherwise, Eric is simply a Walmart version of a superior brand.
To all of you who want to argue Sebastian voice isn’t what it used to be, you are correct however, I would still take his stage presence, and 75 to 80% of his voiceover Eric’s every day all day all the time
Lastly, even though Sebastian‘s voice isn’t what it used to be, he’s still outsells Skid Row, and feels larger events than they do with Eric LMAO, that must really burn their ass and proves a simple point… Sebastian was the band

Well, all I can speak from is my own experience. I saw Bach a few years ago in a 3,000 seat venue that was at best 1/2 full. Bach sounded pretty terrible and only plays Skid Row songs in his set obviously because he never did a single thing on his own over 25 years that anybody would recognize. I saw Skid Row is the same sized 3,000 seat venue last year and it was sold out. I also saw Skid Row recently in a 5,000 seat venue recently and that was darn near sold out and they actually play some new songs in their set. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first 2 Skid Row albums with Bach and still listen to them plenty but his time is long gone. It's been made clear that the Skid Row guys would probably rather just quit playing music altogether than get back with the Bach so not sure why people constantly bring it up after 25 years. Yes absolutely. Bach sounds awful trying to hit the high notes now. Erik sounds amazing with Skid Row and they are back! I never cared about them after Bach, but Erik changed my mind. I feel 19 again and like I'm hearing the self titled for the first time again. I hear Bach butcher those songs now and all I have is those memories, Erik brings them back and I actually want to go hear Skid Row doing them again. I wouldn't waste my money on Bach now.

oh shut up. sebastian ruined his own career in skid row by being an egotistical drunk & coked up asshole who was in a constant slew of scandals (throwing a bottle at a 17 yr old girl's face, aids shirt, bon jovi beef, etc). the rest of skid row shouldnt be punished for the actions of a narcissist unwilling to change. sebastian was a great singer, but HE ruined it. not them.

They are playing all the big rock/metal fests over seas right now, while Bach is playing what looks like a 75 seater backyard BBQ under a tent if you want to hear him sing or whatever he's attempting to do now. Sorry, but they have been selling out more than Bach. Bach isn't playing Hellfest is he?

I really like the singer a lot. I do have a confession, I grew up on 80's metal and love Skid Row. When they fired Bach like an idiot I quit buying their CD's and listening to them. Then... Big mouth Bach started crying and hating on #Trump2024 and my eyes were opened and I truly saw what a b/thch Bach is... Long live Skid Row

Same here. Loved Skid Row back in the day and was irritated when Bach left to the point where I kind of boycotted them for many years. But the more I saw interviews with Bach, the less I liked him and it became more and more clear why the Skid Row guys never wanted him back and why he'd never be back. I've also asked myself that if Bach was so fantastic, how come he never created anything substantial on his own? Why couldn't he go make another band big if he's god's gift to music or put together an awesome solo career? He's more known for his role on Gilmore Girls than for anything he's done musically since leaving Skid Row. Don't get me wrong, he was amazing and those first 2 Skid Row albums are among my favorite albums. But it feels to me like he really wasted his talents and should've done more. But either way, he's made a nice living off those first 2 Skid Row albums so I'm sure he laughs all the way to the bank.

Out of the 80s bands, Skid Row was the only band I ever liked. I grew up when heavy metal, so I was a huge Scorpions, Y&T, UFO, etc. fan. I saw the Vegas show, and I was so impressed with SR! They/he stole that show!

The two albums after Bach was fired had the band straining away from their signature sound. The Gang’s All Here has the signature sound and feel from those two first album and is the legit 3:rd one. Huge props to Nick Raskulinecz for bringing back the real Skid Row. And God bless Erik Gronwall for stepping up to the challenge. And for the band to believe in him. This is ace.

Now,all that Skid Row needs is a proper major record label deal and they'll officially be back,as Erik is the type of singer that would have recharged Van Halen had VH still been together(and had Eddie Van Halen still been amongst us). Otherwise,I'm sure that Sebastian Bach would be appalled by this video as it would be interesting to hear what both Sebastian and ZP Theart would have to say about Erik's involvement with Skid Row.
