How to *fix*/recalibrate Lexus IS250 touchscreen

- My 2008 Lexus IS250 touchscreen became no responsive several years ago, after doing some research and talking to a few dealers and mechanics I was told the digitizer was broken ( a common problem apparently) and it needed to replaced. The dealership could charge me something crazy or I could risk it by buying the digitizer via EBAY and figure it out myself. I figured I eventually would go at it myself, until last year when the temperature dipped below -15 and the screen required me to recalibrate. Basically touching little plus signs so the screen gets calibrated. I did it and it worked again! I realized that the screen wasn’t broken, I just needed to recalibrate it. Then it went non responsive again. I have a remote starter and I warmed up my car one day. If you don’t recalibrate the screen when that option comes up, the screen becomes non responsive. (Yay fun)
Nowhere online could I find a way to force this recalibration screen. I pulled the fuse, unplugged the battery…. Nothing. Then I started digging through some old manuals and found a single paragraph riddled with spelling mistakes on how to do it.
And it worked!

When I tried it , the Lexus emblem would arrear while I was pressing the screen but it would just go off and nothing happen after that

I had a screen issue on our RX 400h that was intermittent, the Map would run but the Climate Control wouldn't and the touchscreen was flakey. Testing the 12v battery showed it was reading low at 12.1 when a healthy one reads 13.4+, load testing it showed in the weak range. I replaced it and upon restart the screen showed loading software with the Don't Remove Power message. Afterwards it is functioning like new, fingers crossed that was the issue on ours.
what page did you find it on the owners manual? it started working for me after I did that but no calibration screen showed.
It was page like 12 I think, but it was in the manual for the specific screen, not the car manual. Not sure why it was separate.

I did this now it it keep say calibrate touch panel it keep making me repeat the process and keep coming back to the screen that says calibrate touch panel

Looks like factory navigation.... I have factory navigation. Main screen works. I can touch the main screen and it move around. But I can't make any changes on the other screens. So I have same issue with temp. / ac. I don't want to risk losing the screen. The voice commands still work. But I can't change the tolls command only works local. But all other voice commands. Any thoughts ? Anyone ? Help? I've seen videos taking whole dash apart. Trying to avoid that.
My screen is doing the same. It turns on. I can move around on the map like you said but nothing works on any of the other screens. Like audio or AC... Nothing works when I try to tap any button. Did you ever resolve the issue with your screen? Trying to find a solution myself. Thanks 😊
@nsallred , it's seems that everyone I spoke to says it's the digitizer on it's way out. Was planning on making it a fall project. I don't want to lose the screen. I can use voice commands and back up camera. But obviously would love to have all functions back. I will post my results ....good luck and if you find a better solution , I'm all ears. 👍

Only the bottom part (bottom line) does not work on mine. Do I do the same thing? I fear that I may not be able to click on the "-" button at the lower right.
Yeah I’d be concerned about the same thing. Technically it should reset the screen but if there’s an issue with the bottom section you’d end up not being able to calibrate it.

Is working by voice ? Or can you see the streets , screen , icons ? If so, check to see if the dashboard light switch is at brightest ... You would hear or feel it click while turning right , . If so, turn left to unlock, and should change automatically from day screen ( white ) to night as light outside changes. You can force nav screen into day or night mode. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem the radio controls down below light up but the buttons on the sides and bottom of the screen don’t light up

You gottta reconnect the wires for the navigation connected to the motherboard in the trunk
Does this work on the factory touch screen or only after market?
Unfortunately I’m not sure, I had this put in by the dealer but it was after market. Worth a shot, but I don’t know for sure.

@A person thanks for sharing. What's wrong with yours ? Mine works on navigation ( factory ) voice commands, but when I change screens it only works in a certain spot on occasion, can't recall what screen. All my tolls are custom blocked 🚫 , air conditioning comes on at all temps. Still get warm and plenty cold. Back up camera works. I didn't want to lose all that works. Especially now that maps on my cell are better. But blue tooth would be big and a/c are main concern. Any Help would be much appreciated, I dont want to take whole dash apart if there is a way around it. love this car. 2008 is 250 awd, 141k no accidents, smokey granite on black gut... had tinted windows, when moved back to NY wouldn't pass inspection. Heat gun took tint off easily. Recommend starting on rear passenger windows first. Don't have to do small , unmoveable passenger or rear window , with good working mirrors they can stay tinted unless suv . Still runs and looks great , am giving it a once over before my daughter gets it next year when she graduates college. Thanks in advance for any input. Al

May I know what’s the problem with your air vent? It seems like not fit inside the dash and the navigation properly, I have the same issue when I change my old Navi system includes vents (07) to the navigation including the vents as well to a facelift model, (11-12)
Can I get some info why is the vent is popping out? Is it with the issue of your dashboard is changed before?
Hey! Sorry the nav was an after market system put in by the dealership when I bought it, it was a while ago so i think it just didn’t fit as flush. I also think that I fiddled a bit with it a few years ago causing it to pop out a bit. Funny enough I fiddled with it because I was trying to figure out how to potentially replace my screen because of this issue!

I’d say as long as you’re touching the screen, turn the car on so it turns over. I didn’t need to hold the start button any longer than normal. Once it started I let go of the starter. The screen I let go once the calibration screen came on. Hopefully that helps!

@@profitstags9842 possibly. The screen, I believe, needs to be able to detect your fingers on it to be force the reset/calibration screen. If it’s really hot it may not detect your fingers and not work.
If not, it could be that the screen is gone and needs replacement, but I’m hoping that’s not the case cuz its either an expensive fix or a lot of work that could be a pain.
