For some reason, Liam Neeson never played Lincoln.

The true source of Lincoln’s genius, I suspect, was that he was, simultaneously & fully, both the most “pragmatic idealist” AND “idealistic pragmatist” who ever lived, a master strategist and tactician….🙏🎩🇱🇷

Lincoln's genius fell woefully short when he repeatedly attempted to expel African-Americans to the following regions:
      1.) Haiti
      2.) British Honduras (Belize)
      3.) Liberia
      4.) Gran Colombia (Panama)
Lincoln's administration however was highly effective in waging state-subsidized terrorism by forcing Native Americans from their homelands onto the reservation system, and massacring them wholesale. His was a seamlessly continuum of Manifest Destiny
American Genocide by Benjamin Madley if you want to see a portion of this history summarized in book form.

@@presterjohn1697 In order to fully understand & appreciate the genius & brilliance(& yes, goodness) of Lincoln, you have to study his life & work within the context of his times, see & understand the negative forces that were at work in America and which Lincoln was working against. Only then will you fully understand the man. I recommend/suggest reading the following 4 speeches(8-10 times each)- Speech at Peoria(1854), Speech on Dred Scott(1857), The 7th Debate with Douglas(Oct 15, 1858), and The Cooper Union Speech(1860). Lincoln has that rare distinction of being one of the very few “Great Men” in history who become MORE, not less impressive the more you put him under the microscope. Or, to mix my metaphors, he’s an onion that one may continue to peal back the layers, and his greatness only grows, such that he, quite frankly, defies nearly all criticism. Sometimes(very infrequently, I grant), apotheosis & hagiography are the only accurate, honest, intellectually sound responses to or analyses of a man….🎩🙏🇱🇷

@@timothymeehan181 Judge Lincoln based upon speeches and not his actions? You're not serious, right?
"within the context of his times"???
When did continental wide mass extermination become an acceptable practice.

@@presterjohn1697 Oh, absolutely judge him by both his words AND his actions, my brother- he still withstands all scrutiny. But I suspect that you’re presuming to criticize the man without having read a single biography(start with Stephen Oates’ 1977 bio “With Malice Towards None”, then move on to William Lee Miller’s “ethical biographies”- Lincoln’s Virtues & The Eloquent President). To study/understand Lincoln is to study/understand America from its founding through the Civil War, all that was “happening/going on”. Your outrage & idealism about certain aspects of our history is commendable(I share it with you), but beware the kinds of anachronistic & myopic judgements that result from not seeing “the entire field”, all the variables, forces, & “moving parts” at play. Lincoln did, and mastered them, and saved the Union, preserved the Constitution intact, and ended slavery….well, not entirely alone or single-handedly, but he most certainly was the sine qua non of that accomplishment. 🙏🎩🇱🇷
