Do you prep the canvas in any way before putting the tape on? Any gesso or anything like that? I'm guessing maybe since I can't really see any texture of the canvas when you pull the tape off...
I use pre-primed canvases but I also apply a layer of gesso to smooth them out more, especially when using masking tape. The smoother the canvas, the easier it is to get a good seal on the tape edges. I also paint over the tape with the background color (white in this painting) to seal the tape edges an get a really sharp line when the tape is removed.
@@mikemcdonaldart Idk why I never thought about doing that with gesso for a painting I know I'm going to be using tape in. That makes total sense. I have also heard of the painting over the tape the background color technique but have yet to try it. More projects to add to the ever-increasing list!
