Yuri Hambardzumian vs. Denis Khismatullin, 2015: D49 Queen's Gambit Declined semi-Slav, Meran, Blumenfeld variation
beautifull, clean explanation.
Best teacher, great lecture!
As a d4 player, i'm amused with the technical aproach of the semi-slav.
Thanks, CCSCSL!
You've become my favorite RUclips chess instructor. Can't wait to learn this series from you!
Thanks for this opening been waiting a while for it!
Thank you for taking the time preparing this excellent presentation from an experienced and talented instructor.
19:34 nobody in the chat fact checked this? Bent Larsen did in fact play 8...Bb7 in game four (Larsen - Uhlmann Candidates quarterfinals 1971)
This is fabulous clear and insightful. Thank you Jonathan Schrantz, I don't know a better RUclips chess presenter.
I've finished this session of part 1 _ the Semi-Slav, and it is really intense for me. Using two boards one for the main line and smaller one for the side analysis and example games. It takes me more time than the actual video length, but I have deeply moved through the theories. One lesson per week, this would be my PLAN !!
You are still a noob. Never forget that

Nice video. A bit fast for me, but that's what the replay button is for. This guy is very thorough. A great presentation for an intermediate+, which in this opening, I'm not. So I'm grateful for this series of the Semi-Slav. And those of you who are more familiar with this opening than some of the rest of us, thanks for sharing your comments. Some good insights here.
Thanks, Mr. Schrantz
yeah! continue the series plz! great work
Finally, a real opening! Thanks a lot!
Really enjoyed this! You got noticeably more comfortable and loose as the video went on - I love the Slav, so much dynamism and imbalance
Very nice video! Schrantz has improved his lecturing skills!!
thank you so much for uploading this!! Greetings from Uruguay.
The man is surprise we love the longer series! You think everybody loves blitz Chess Mr. Shrantz. We love classical long lectures and we learn even more.
Wow.. 8 lectures on only semi slav. I'm happy and overwhelmed at the same time!!!
Great video! Waiting for the next one. Also, my suggestion for the next Opening Series: Caro-Kann Karpov Variation (4. Nd7)!
This was great. Also, I'd love to see the Leningrad Dutch covered in the future.
Great vid, I'll see the others parts!
Another funny way to play at 34.08 is b4 (suggested by engine, I would have tried Be3 by myself) even if it's lost, it's sharp & crazy!
I'm also suggesting to have the Dutch Leningrad variation.
Thanks Sir!
wonderful thanks you are the best lecturer by far
The pace is so much more natural at 1.5x speed :)) Love your videos, thanks.
The Slav has always intimidated me (based on reputation mostly). I was warned against it early on in my (limited) chess education, but this was a very good introduction.
Maybe I'll give it a try some time.
Great Teacher, very nice explanation. Thanks a lot
Wow i was having trouble while playing as black in queen's gambit but it is very great opening. Thanks for the lecture!!!
You guys do a grand job
Honourable Mr.SCHRANTZ YOUR VOICE LOVELY CLEAR DEEP CONSCIOUSNESS TACTICLE ADVANCE VARITION
I love this series before this series i didn't know at all how to play the semi-slav and know i love playing it as white or black this guy is like the best teacher
beautiful explaination sir...thanks
It would be really great if ...Bd6 line could be covered as well. I play it myself and I think it's easier to play than a6 and Bb8 lines.
I always feel happy when I can find moves like Qd4 within 30 seconds :D
thank you Jonathan !
Awesome job sir
wow great job
Brilliant!
great video
fantastic ...
my favorite quote from this lecture "with so many queens on the board" XD
Good stuff!!
Great ! Please do video about French 3.Nc3 or 3.Nd2
Thx, i will follow these series very faithfully ! I looked the Kramnik-Anand games, these are crazy!! I won this kind of semi-slav recently, that went on very bad for black : 1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 e6 5. e3 Ndb7 6. Bd3 dxc4 7. Bxc4 b5 8. Bd3 a6 9. e4 Bb7? 10. e5 Nd5 11. Nxd5 exd5 12. 0-0 c5 13. e6 etc
hi!
could you explain after 3-Kc3 -dXcd.
And the botvnik variation...
All kind of gambit and tricky move in this opening :) thx!
Didn’t know this was an opening, but I’ve apparently been playing it as black the past couple months just through experimentation!
makes me want to see more
I love this guy
pls pls can u show the openings start with c4 and its top ten responces
jst like the video that u have shown like e4 and d4
people ready to enter the fun, sharp lines of the nimzo and semi slav -exited-
white: 2,Bf4
Thank you for covering all this content Mr. Schrantz. I would, however, like to see a part 11 covering miscellaneous yet very annoying moves like an early 6... a6 in the Meran lines. Example: 6. Bd3 a6 7. O-O?! dxc4 8. Bxc4 b5 9. Be2. Here I felt this followed the definition of 'slow' lines you covered in part 1 and it seems as if white is a tempo down in the theory as if I wasted my ninth move not playing e4.
Play 7. e4 since you just played Bd3 one strategic goal in d4 opening is achieving e4 with white.
do a video of chess studies plz ..from book Herman gotten
I would like a video on 8...b4, the lundin variation
I want to see the move Anand played. I vaguely remember the game Aronian got crushed rather quickly.
@44:05 can black play e5 and renews the threat of Rh6 mate instead of Qd4?
do more series! i like the long ones
@@fizwizzle1989 that’s what the Make a Wish foundation is for
Can anyone please recommend a pdf or website which has all the lines?
Also what if white plays 5.bf4?
Hey Jonathan, love this series. Could you please cover the Budapest Gambit for me? I'm particularly interested in the Rubinstein, Kornl Richter Gambit variation and a refutation for 6 ...Qe7. Thanks!
Thank you, that was quite helpful!
very thanks for you and for Saint Louis chess clubI follow a lot of vediosit was so benifitCan you make a series how to play caro kann as black pleaseThanks
Aaaaaahhhhh some explanation on the Marshall-gambit in the Queen´s gambit Triangle-setup....I like delicious and crazy gambits like that..... ;) Thank you Mr. Schrantz....
Check out Simon Williams' YT channel. He likes to play that gambit. :)
Uerdue>>>>Thanks for that information. ;)
thanks :D
sir..which line is best for black ??classical meran modern meran??
What other longer, multi-part series are there? I don't see any "The Complete [x]", so I'm guessing they're under a more vague title?
I can't make it out - what was the game that he referred to in the last section of the video?
On what other openings have you done complete long series on??
Is Q-f6 bad in the four queens variant? straight up saying "let's trade queens"
Icelandic gambit please!
22:40 white's d5 move, whats the name of this attack? I didnt hear well.
Reynold's attack I think.
thank you :) I see that its covered also in part 3 of semi-slav series :)
so where are the lectures on anand kramnik semi slav games -
in that very last position there was a defense not covered after Bxd4 the white knight can go to e3 and after Bxe3 the rook can go to c4 to swing over and block the checkmate
though there should be a way to interfere with the rank defense like Be4
Nice idea on that defense, but Black can do even better than taking the knight on e3. Instead black plays Rh6+ Kg1, then black can take the knight on e3 with check, Bxe3+, and after Kf1 Ba6+, it is clean mate:
(Ke1 Rh1#) or
(Be2 Rh1#) or
(Rc4 Bxc4+ (Ke1 or Be2) Rh1#).
Nice idea, but black's pieces are just too active!
yeah but it is important to at least cover it, after giving the impression that mate was forced
Daniel Manahan I
what if king moved f1 instead of h1?
could you do london system after this series
And AGAINST the london system, also
Fromthesea lol
Hard to do that as it's more of an opening system than a concrete opening with concrete variations. Also, the whole point of playing the London System is to hope that your opponent never watched a video about it. :p
Can I please request a video on the bird?
I found Qd4 in the end, but then got frustrated because she can still block the rook. Come on, how did I not see bishop takes queen first, then rook over?
@ 42:51 How about Rg3?
Chebanko variation or the a6 slav please
I also would like to learn chebanenko :)
In the last position Bh5 saves the mate with Rh6 g4 fxg4 Kh2 Rxh6+ Kg3. But giving Up too much material is still lost .
Sorry Rxh5+ (my clumsy fingers)
petrov defense please, I'm told it's a tactically rich opening but I only know the boring variation
What software do you use in your lectures?
which program you use for showing these openings
Pranav Aggarwal Chessbase It is universal!
old benoni and ponziani pleaaaaze!
I LIKE PLAYING THIS AS BLAAAAACK BROOOOOO!
YOOOOO MAAA NIGUS
why can't d take c right off the opening??
ahh its considered queens gambit
Nice explanation!
#knightfortchess
Hey could you guys do the alikines defense please?
It's spelled Alekhine
It's spelled Alkaline.
It's spelled alkali
its spelled haleckihnece dephanse
for the last problem i found an elegant solution: f4, and then there s no defens against Rh4
Rh6 *
Check out this #chess game: excalber23 vs Notes3122 - www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=1810520908. This is a game I played in Chess.com against another player where the rating was around 980. It is like a beginner beat down. I made a threat, he didn't respond properly, and then I commenced to taking all his stuff.
interesting game, congradulations! your oponent really played the opening bad, your sac with the knight on d5 was sound and very strong, actually on move 9 the only defence for black was Nh6, but still after that you can retreat the knight and have a great position. At move 11 you could of thaked whith the knight straight away, either way taking that knight a few moves back was suicide for black.
conner browning All I can say is that black was already lost on move ... 2.Qe7 ;)
Can't wait to pay 180 dollars for this on chessable

Why is the semi-Slav called the "Semi" -Slav?
By the way.....I think I´ll become Worldchampion in chess at the day when I merge my consciousness with the superintelligent brain of Computron from Transformers. I´ll be pleased to be called a Technobot. Lightspeed will be my prefered Technobot-name then. ;) Think of that....To become a Chessbase-product called Deep Computron. That´s a name they should use for sure. What a popularity-boost that could mean. Computron should be a chess-program with both enourmous tactical and positional abilities. The best from tactical players like Morphy, Aljechin, Tal, Fischer, Kasparov, Grischuk, Morozevich and Polgar. And of course the best of positional players like Steinitz, Capablanca, Botvinnik, Petrosian, Karpov, Kramnik and Carlssen. Shortly spoken I think it would be a mix of Stockfish and Komodo. How exciting it would be......
1499 highest 1465 now hi Daniel
Hopefully, all the positive feedback here in the comment section will convince Schrantz to do "real" / "sound" openings (that you can actually learn sthg from) more often.
Better let the fans of dubious gambits do their homework themselves - that's what playing for traps is all about. ;)
it's not pronounced note-boom, it's more like note-uh-bo-uh-m :)
albin countergambit
