I finished the last assignment for my BS in Geology yesterday. This album played a huge role in my studies. I got more work done listening to it than any other music. And to think I only found it cus I was looking for a presentation on the Permian
That change at 5:00 always fills me with chills, as if some great and massive wave is crashing down on me. It’s so powerful, NEVER gets old! Never will… The World needs more music like The Ocean! So powerful and dark, yet I always feel as if the light is right on the horizon. Their music just makes you feel so full of dread and anticipation of some terrible and awesome event! It’s so moving, and at times gentle, but so powerful all at once! It’s a beautiful dichotomy!
I'd also add To kill to Live to Kill by Manticora to the best 2018 albums. This song is epic on the same scale as Devonian: Nascent. I see them almost as the same song
I have to agree. For the first two minutes I got thinking "Is this studio over live?" But then he changes some vocals... he sings the real deal. Fucking impressed
Hauntingly beautiful, yet devastatingly crushing. Like something you are love and find beautiful, but nonetheless, it crushes your soul to dust. Only to have the most enlightening growth from this disrepair.
Saw you opening for Devin Townsend, maybe 10 years ago now. I know it's a huge pain, but would love for you to hit up the east coast of the US again... If we ever go back to how things were in relation to global travel.
Same here, I saw them in Baltimore with Devin Townsend Project and they blew me away, didn't know a thing about them until then. I want to say it was 2011. I immediately went out and bought Heliocentric and listened to it a thousand times.
I just discovered them somehow after liking many of the bands they have toured with. But I saw they came pretty close to me here in Northern California. I would kill to be able to see these guys live. It's not too often I get truely hooked on a band soon after hearing them. This is like the perfect combination of all musical elements I love and somehow they are still underappreciated.
Such an underrated band, specially if you like weed, if I might say. The slow parts are so trippy, the heavy parts are just crushing, and the concepts and lyrics are so cool.
That was a killer performance. What I wouldn't give to see these guys perform a full set on a decent stage. Seeing Pelagial live was awesome, but they were crammed into 10ft and didn't have anyone on keys/effects so there was quite a bit tracked in, and they got cut short to under 25 minutes when I saw them touring for Anthropocentric because the regional support before them went over.
I don't know if anyone has ever noticed that, but the album version has some very annoying scratching sound in its mix, more or less starting halfway through. This is also true for the digital copies. Regardless, it's a superb track from an amazing album. Thanks for the upload, this will be my go to version from now on!
I honestly think that could be for effect, especially because it starts half way through. I know the album track also has some clipping right at the end I'm guessing to convey complete extinction.
Does anyone knows where the samples in the beginning are from? I know the first one is from noam chomsky, but I have no clue from which speech.. By the way: this was an amazing evening!
Second one is Donald Trump talking about repealing regulations on the energy sector, oil, shale, etc which preceded the US withdrawal from the Paris Accord. Basically rightfully pointing out one of the reasons for the second great dying we're currently experiencing
this still is one of my favorite songs of all time. The ending part is so incredibly fucking awesome and the live version of it is no less powerful than the album version.
✴✴✴ Nice live-works, wide atmopharic, dark and deeply effects. Bassguitar and all parts are very accurate. Good cuts and well staged. Keep it up.. . . . The voice reminds sometimes a little bit to Ozzy.
"The majority of Europeans want a travel ban on immigration from muslim majority countries. The idea is first we destroy them, then we punish them for trying to escape from the ruins we created." This is fresh in my mind from the concert 2 days ago where they used the same intro. I can't understand the second one
I really love these guys and their music. But someone should take away their smoke machines... Last time I saw them it was just like staring into a fog bank.
great video, but man that audience was so dead xD maybe thats the great dying.. of that audience xD they don't even raise an arm. Robin come back to south america after the pandemic to record great live videos like this but with the greatest metal audience in the world, you know its true
Great band. But their message is misguided. Without oil, they wouldn’t be able to do what they do. Not just for travel, but literally everything they use contains oil.
Still get chills every time I hear this song.
As a geologist, this haunting, beautiful, soul wrenching songs has to be one of the greatest songs of all time. Incredible lyrics, so well-written.
One of the best albums of the decade.
They have 5 albums in that conversation too! Phanerozoic I & II, Pelagial, Heliocentric and Anthropocentric. Robin Staps is a genius.
I agree!
fuckin' got that right!
Why isn't this band one of the major bands in metal today? I don't get it, they are insanely underrated.
Only band to be true to Katatonia’s genius
@@ericcotter1984 Far superior to Katatonia IMO
@@michaelfulbright271 not even close but im better than both
Me either, makes no sense at all
7:58 I'm pretty sure my soul just left my body
I cant stop repeating this bit. Sooo fucking good :D
SAME
I cannot stop listening to this song.

During the Permian, a wave crashing on you is definitely not what you wanted either. Well, at least during the mass extinction.
Best album from 2018
Can't chose between The Ocean and Rivers of Nihil.
2018 was such a great year !
I'd also add To kill to Live to Kill by Manticora to the best 2018 albums. This song is epic on the same scale as Devonian: Nascent. I see them almost as the same song
This Album this band has genius vibe. It's sounds so beautiful epic brutal
excited as fuck for the second part of this album 🤘🏻
This is my first time hearing anything live from them and I'm really impressed, it's not common that I hear someone who sings so consistently well
I have to agree. For the first two minutes I got thinking "Is this studio over live?" But then he changes some vocals... he sings the real deal. Fucking impressed
I saw another video of them. His vocals and screams are very clean!! he is extremely talented.
This is a very difficult song vocally. Dude killed it.
Man. Major props to whoever mixed this. Insane
Hauntingly beautiful, yet devastatingly crushing. Like something you are love and find beautiful, but nonetheless, it crushes your soul to dust. Only to have the most enlightening growth from this disrepair.
Loic sounds excellent here.
Incredible powerfull - so underrated

Devin and The Ocean in the same night, what a dream, specially nowadays.
@@akrocanth Smalltimore, apparently. I'm from there as well.

Reminds me of Parma, Italy, last November: this is Italia, we cook so different, lol
Reminds me too
How haven't I heard this yet?...shameful....they are so great !!! porcupine tree must be an influence...
Exactly my reaction! They have a spice box of styles but they make it their own.
One of the best songs ever made. In recent years, this and "In the shadow of our pale companion", of Agalloch, always abduct me.
That song is a masterpiece
I lack words to express how much I love this song
Huge Poison the Well vibes, especially in the singer's scream. Absolutely A++++. Cant believe I only just discovered them
Cant wait to see this live again. This song is haunting me ever since hearing it the first the time, sucha beauty and perfection of a song!
Rick Grimes was a hell of a vocalist before the apocalypse
HAHA!
COOOOORRRL
Im dead🤣😭💀
Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic/Cenozoic
Everlasting intriguing. I love this progressive Metal Band ❤❤❤ Don’t stop, guys! Keep on doing what you’re doing. You make (smart) people THINK 😊
Such an underrated band, specially if you like weed, if I might say. The slow parts are so trippy, the heavy parts are just crushing, and the concepts and lyrics are so cool.
Listening to this stoned right now
Sexy time music 😍😏
Agreed.
Such a powerful song!

Amazing, astonishing, breathtaking and deeply satisfying. Saw them live in the summer of 2019. What an experience! \m/
Holy crap dude how have I just found out about this band? Hello?

I’ve never noticed, I just started listening to this album about a month ago on Apple Music.
I honestly think that could be for effect, especially because it starts half way through. I know the album track also has some clipping right at the end I'm guessing to convey complete extinction.
Freaking amazing still. The story, the dichotomy, the chill
Does anyone knows where the samples in the beginning are from? I know the first one is from noam chomsky, but I have no clue from which speech..

This sounds fucking amazing
this song is simply unbelievable !!!! it fucking transport me to places !!!!
Most underrated band ever, defo in my top 5 bands of all time! (Including Gorod, Vektor, Between the buried and me and Opeth)
love the broken cymbal, they are unique
So much raw power and emotion!
hearing only the studio records, I didn't expect that from live WOW
this still is one of my favorite songs of all time. The ending part is so incredibly fucking awesome and the live version of it is no less powerful than the album version.
Incredibly underrated band!!
This live version sounds so good! God DAMN!

I saw them open for JFAC and BTBAM. They’re amazing live and stole the show IMO.
@@Kin_Ton_Ti What a fuckin lineup
Btbam isn’t very memorable live
Album of the year guys, really good job.
Come to US and tour with Tool please 👉👈
What’s the speech at the start? I heard it live last night and I’m trying to find it
I didn’t think I could like The Ocean any more than I did, then I heard them using a Noam Chomsky clip.
I saw you recommend this band on old man composer, and it's the greatest gift scrolling comments has gifted me. Cheers man
This is so foggy and muffled and it's eerie af. I can't move.
Amazing
One of the guitarists sometimes looks like the vocalist from cult of luna
Oh sean.
8:00 -> shivers
wow.
Verry good 👍
I like with band Metal 🤘🤘🤘
I'm from Indonesia ALOR
Really? RUclips commercials throughout the song?!? Ruins the whole fucking thing
Seems like this needed better capture/mixing of lower frequency sounds
this is some god level shit, gives me chills ... holy fuck
Audience are extras from "Night of the Living Dead" --had not been fed for 3days !
Hermoso sonido, metal fresco y original.
The live one sounds better than the original mix. For some reason.
Sono già flippata 🤫🖤🖤🖤
I know the genius of this band is the point here.. But can someone please transcripe the things said before the intro
"The majority of Europeans want a travel ban on immigration from muslim majority countries. The idea is first we destroy them, then we punish them for trying to escape from the ruins we created."

is this like a pop festival where they have 2 3 metal bands? where's them moshpits?
Some bands command to be WATCHED. this is one of those bands!
Upload more songs, this is the less good from the album
Blasphemy! This is the best song on Paleozoic.
Epic album as a whole. I agree with Milen. Likely the best one on the album.
