The stand is actually meant to be moved. I pull them to the center when forging, then rock them onto casters that I have mounted to the sides of them, and move them out of the way. It clears the center of the shop for other tools. I have to think about filming angles. If I didn't film myself, I'd have everything anchored.
Sir great video as always. I am just setting up to make my first knife. My son was going to try making knives so I built a power hammer, a 50 ton press and a blacksmiths roller. Now for health reasons he can't do it. I bought a 3 burner forge and I rebuilt the side edges of a 150 plus years old anvil. That lets you know what's on hand. What of your projects do you suggest as a starter? I look forward to following you and learning. God bless.
It's more of a bright orange when I'm forging it. I should also note that this steel is hotter than it seems on camera, the camera and lighting make the steel look different from what I actually see.
I personally don't care for the harpoon design on knives, thats why i dont make them. Although I do like seeing how other smiths go about making their knives. I'll just wait and see how it turns out in the end.
I want to give you some constructive critisism. Ive been watching your videos for a while and one thing I see constantly is, you using excessive amount of hammer blows to barely move any material. Your main issue is heat. You metal is never hot enough. And i know it's not the camera because you can tell your hammer is barely moving metal . You could have made that knife in 10 minutes of hammering not 30 minutes. Just trying to save your shoulder is all. Not trying to talk shit just trying to help a fellow Smith.

Your anvil is anchored ....but your stand isn't... Don't want you getting injured mate. Top notch chopper 💪

Great video. Are you forging that coil at yellow heat or bright orange ? Thanks
It's more of a bright orange when I'm forging it. I should also note that this steel is hotter than it seems on camera, the camera and lighting make the steel look different from what I actually see.
@@theriversexperience9383 correct it looks yellow on video. Yellow got my metal to spider web and break but boy it moves good. Thanks for the reply.
👏👏👏👏👏🤜🤛
The flat on tang at the beginning of the video, was that welded on or did you forge that previously Erik ?
I welded it on there. I took it off once I started forging the tang.
@@theriversexperience9383 ok thanks for the reply

Constructive criticism is always welcome.
I'll be addressing this on Thursday's live stream actually. This should be a good topic, thanks for the idea.
