At 2:27, the second sentence; Ik had al gegeten. Isn’t ‘al’ unnecessary since ‘had gegeten’ determine it’s plusquamperfectum?

Why do you use an inversion in the example at 3:54? (Was ik maar vroeger gekomen!) Is it ok to say just : "Ik was vroeger moeten gekomen"?

Hi, good question. Using inversion with the plusquamperfectum is the typical way to express unfulfilled wishes. You could also say 'Ik had vroeger moeten komen', but it is - to my opinion - less dramatic.
