There was so much more to John Lord than I ever realised. After hearing Ian Paice talking about his dear friend, it opened my eyes to just how talented he was, and in ways you would never expect a rock legend to be. Such an enormous loss.
One of the most beautiful ballads in the history of rock music. I was a teenager when I first heard it. Now I'm 68 and it still resonates in my soul. You were great Jon and your Deep Purple colleagues. ❤️ It's a pity that you left so early. Rest in peace Jon.
Great job. They only needed Gillan. His singular vocal has never been topped. He was superhuman much like each member of Deep Purple. Bravo JON LORD RIP.
We miss you, your music will live in our souls for eternity. God your album pictures within is Music from heaven. It soothes me and the song wait a while just makes me cry my heart out. It is a a masterpiece!! Your work With Purple has always amazed me. Then you can go to beautiful Orchestrated bliss is proof of why your last name is Lord. You will always be missed and Loved.
Just found this , i grew up with deep purple and loved all their songs ,but this version is absolutely amazing , brought a tear to my eye , very very emotional , rip the big man
That was nice. Controlled and safe. Child in Time with Ian and the boys bordered on the edge of collapse. The beauty of pushing it so far without falling apart.
Yes...to a degree, I agree.... The original Ian Gillan at the Royal Albert Hall, given the technical restrictions of the day...was better than this: The female "backing" here somehow detracted from the original.....but never damaged it.... Yes? But so good to enjoy it all over again......Let's be happy we can do so.
As Jon Lord said, a song with a message that continues to be valid now. Yet, it was never done more powerfully than the Purple of Lord, Paice, Blackmore, Gillan and Glover. Not too much I've heard that comes close.
How ever did Ian Gillan do that on his own? We truly had some great artists back in the day. Deep Purple will always be the yardstick for me...where they led, others followed.
There's only one person can sing this song as Ian Gillan he didn't have to have backing vocals. But you're right this man's got an amazing voice. Wife replying

I never tire of hearing this piece....in all of its presentations....it is truly great work. A classic. I have the original.."Deep Purple In Concert " ..at the Royal Albert Hall on Video...and on DVD...(with all their little foibles.) Sir Malcolm Sargeant.... et al..... Never tire of watching them. (Even if the narrator introduces them as "THE Deep Purple".... Love it.) I love the public shown at that time.... If you get the chance, see for yourself. All variations have a magic of their own..... I have yet to see one without the maestro himself: Jon Lord.... from his Albert Hall...to this...he just seemed to grow in stature (literally!) as the years went by. It simply beggars the question.... Where are the 'Jon Lord's of today.? Is there anyone out there with the same VISION for a rock classic? Love to hear from you.
I wrote that 3 years ago....and I stand by what I said. This is OK but does not stand anywhere near the Albert Hall recording. The male vocalist: Sorry. No where near. the level of Ian Gillan. This bloke .needed a female and a choir to back him....and they needed microphones....(Look again!) In the Albert Hall: Ian Gillan needed NOBODY..... and did a better job. Ian Paice was a better drummer than this guy here too. And ..... Where was the guitarist at the level of Ritchie Blackmore? As I said.... not a BAD rendition of their classic "Sweet Child In Time"....but falls well short of the Royal Albert Hall performance.
Would have been spectacular. Those of you not heard child in time go listen to RB's guitar solo on the original track. If anyone gets a chance, see DP in concerto from 1969.

Music from the days when it wasn't imprisoned by genres, time-constrictions and marketing executives. Just pure brilliance
Masterpiece of Deep Purple
Simply great thank you Jon Lord it doesn’t get any better , you’re immortal with your music
Musicians were born in those beautiful times. Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer. Rest in peace Jon!

Jon Lord did a great job here. Even the assembly of great musicians cant match both Ians, Glover, and Blackmore

A great version by an awsome keyboard player and orchestra.
Love the original! This wasn’t bad either. The original is probably my favorite song of all time. Iam’s vocals were never duplicated
