Dedicate each of your last 6 miles to someone you love. You won't let them down 👍. I heard that Paula Radcliffe did that. Have fun Andy. It'll be a great day
Here’s some last minute advice for Andy: * It’s dangerous to start off too fast, like Sarah would. Get Rick to pace you for the first half. * Nothing new on race day, so wear the shoes you’ve got the most miles in. * It’s important to know the route. Show up at the start line four hours before the race and do a quick practice run around the full course. * Prepare for all weather. Wear layers: a parka, a rain coat, a t-shirt, a singlet, and Union Jack body paint. Strip off as necessary. * Dehydration is a concern. Drink a few bottles of a local wine for breakfast to ensure hydration! * Caffeine is a legal performance enhancing drug. Take 10 grams of pure caffeine just before the race. A dose like that will probably unlock the ability to use the Force. Good luck!
@@mrbartuss1 great thanks. 1:48:27 was the time. I was happy with that and negative splits. Felt good. I'm 49 and have been running for about 5 years but more consistently in the last 20 months or so.
As we say in the States, “the hay is in the barn.” You have done the work - there is nothing more to do but get to the starting line and run. Good luck Andy! You’ve got this!!
I used some old socks (with the ends cut off) as arm warmers in the London Marathon and I was able dispose of them in a drink station bin on the course as I got warm during the race.
I was watching The Running Channel when I did my first one and now I can watch Andy do it. Good Luck and with your pace you can start walking after the half and still beat me.
Love hearing all the 'problems' that pro have that I had before my first marathon this year :-) it will be great man. My experience that kept me till the end with my goal time. Shorts that I trained, some 'second skin' gel in strategic places. And good socks :-). I had gels in my belt. No water on me. Just hit every water spot for a small sip. Math done beforehand. I printed 5km pace and pasted it to watch band. And kept doing splits by hand on my watch. I knew 5km splits. So I knew if I am behind or not. Had some tunes in my ears. Just not to be bored. And 16 degress is HOT man.
Good luck Andy. You have inspired me to run my first marathon March 2024. I have already signed up. I am so nervous. I do have a marathon training plan. I have never run more than a half marathon. I have a fear of "hitting the wall". My training is going well though. Good luck!
Good luck Andy. You'll do an amazing job. Few points: 15oC is hot for running If you use aid stations, there are usually long areas so no need to rush to first bottle. Tensing up uses energy so make yourself relax. Don't trust your garmin. Monitor pace by checking your progress at each m/km by time. As you're so nervous, spend time this week on your mental game, that may be your achilles heel. Enjoy it!
Good luck Andy. I’ve ran Valencia marathon once and the half twice, including this year. I love the city and the routes. The marathon route is amazing, well supported and the finish is probably the best finish I’ve even had. The crowd will pull you along those last few miles for sure. A perfect race for your first marathon. All the best
Good luck Andy. As a veteran of three marathons I'd like to give you some sage advice but, frankly, the only thing I've learned is that I am even worse over 26.2 than 13.1. And remember: it's not the wining; it's not the taking part; it's reaching the start!
Andy, good luck and have fun with running your first ever marathon! You've done all the hard works through trainings, now it's finally your glory time to enjoy the marathon-sightseeing Valencia city! Enjoy!
My top tip, covers pacing and the “2nd half” motivation. Get a pace band for plan an and plan B (only to be resorted to in event of illness, injury or unprecedented heat). On the pace band for every mile write the name of someone that you will dedicate that mile to. It helps when it gets tough to have people that have had to overcome much greater challenges in their life than running that mile or someone that had sacrificed so you can be there running that particular mile. This also keeps you running the mile your in which is TRCs mantra. Best of luck 🍀 - looking forward to the output so like Sarah said don’t forget the content ❤
I'm absolutely sure you'll smash it. I don't know of another runner on the planet that is more informed or prepared. Have a good one and stick to your plan, it will suck at the end but it's worth it. Can't wait to see your result best of luck. Cheers from NC
Good luck Andy. Can't wait to see how you get on. You've done the training! Enjoy the victory lap. And safe travels. Don't forget anything, i wrote a list and did a flat lay at home before packing it alll away :-)
Watch out Kipchoge 😊... I'm running my first half marathon in another country tomorrow but I'll check in on Andy's marathon maybe he'll finish the whole one before my half!!!😅
Best of luck Andy, we'll be cheering you on. We have our 2nd half marathon the same day but will be cheering you on & looking forward to the video. You've done the hard work, now remember to enjoy it
Love these podcasts and openess. After a partial achilles tear 5 months back I did my first treadmill half marathon today and felt amazing. Slowly and carefully (for a change) working back to trail runs and eventually next year doing a 50k at last. You guys have kept me motivated. Thanks
You guys so deserve any success you have on this channel. It's developing into such a great spot for accessible running content. Your personalities are shining through. Thanks
I ran my first marathon last month; Amsterdam in 3:29:29. My training was hampered, so I had to adjust my expectations. Feed off the crowds and the inspiring runners around you! My only tip for you would be not to stop, as your legs may seize up. I stopped to get a drink at 38kms and cramp set in; fortunately I managed to nurse my way to the finish line! 😂 You'll smash it and enjoy the experience. Good luck Andy!
Good luck, Andy! I just ran my first marathon last week. It wasn't the super emotional experience everyone told me it would be, but I'm glad to tick it off my bucket list. Can't wait to watch the video of yours :D
Great podcast, first off good luck with your first marathon, first tip is just remember what your purpose was/is for signing up for the marathon, last tip is just enjoy it, Just signed up for running home for Christmas in December, look forward to adding some miles in to the totaliser
I would say good luck Andy but after all the hard work you've put in there is no need for luck. You're going to absolutely smash it. I've just signed up for running home for Christmas. Did it last year and it gave me the boost I needed to get through December and as my marathon training just begins it couldn't have come at a better time.
Good luck Andy! You’ve done all the hard work, now it’s time to enjoy it. I’m sure you will smash it. Everyone here in the TRC community are behind you 100% 😊 Can’t wait to see the video.
I started running nearly 5 years ago (started at age 50) since then I have run 5 Marathons , 5 half Marathons and avg about 30-35 miles a week when not on a training block , very avg runner to be honest but I just want to enforce what people are saying to you . 1. It will feel too easy running your target pace for the first 10 miles , do not belive what you mind is telling you and hold back. 1. Take an extra gel (7) for just in case in the last 2 miles. 3. When it gets hard (between 30-40k) head down grind it out , 1 foot after the other and pretend your just running back home after a hard long run. .. 4. That last mile ...do what most of us cant .. Pretend its the last mile you are ever going to run .. kick .. and then 800 m out kick again ...the whole last 800m will feel like a 100m sprint ..but well worth it at the end. The very best of luck from just cranky joe normal up in Lancs. Signed up to your running home for xmas . Will await the email with the info.
After the hours you spend giving advice and tips to all your subscribers. This is now your turn Andy to get the praise you deserve for all the hard work you’ve put in during your marathon training. No doubt you’ll smash it. Good luck and I can’t wait to see the post race video. 👍
Best of luck, Andy!! 🙌 You got this! I'm currently setting up my training schedule for a spring marathon (end of March in Ghent, BE), and I must say you guys provided me with a lot of very good tips. Thank you or that!
Good luck Andy!!! Remember to drink and fuel regularly and you’ll be flying 🏃🏻 I set an alarm in my watch, it’s easy to forget about it during the race.
Good luck Andy on your first Marathon. I’m sure you’ll smash it🏃♂️💨! And hopefully still enjoy it. I’ve got my first marathon in April. Training was going well until I sprained my ankle and now been off running for the last 10 weeks. 😢
Good luck Andy!! I am running CIM next weekend (same day as Valencia) and I’m totally feeling all of the maranoia too. You’re gonna do great! Will be much faster than me 🙂
Good luck Andy! Enjoy the experience. I've got my first marathon in April and the main thing that gets said to me is just to take it in and enjoy my first marathon. Hope you do too.
All the best Andy! I adore this channel and can’t wait to hear about your marathon. If all goes well, my first (albeit MUCH slower than you) will be at Houston TX in January
Firstly, good luck with your marathon!! That said, I'm really glad I watched this ... I mainly run self-supported/unofficial things, however, I'm considering doing a few bigger marathons next year (LA, NYC), and I literally just ordered a running vest/pack ... as someone with Crohn's disease and an ileostomy, for longer distances, carrying extra stoma/ostomy supplies is critical for me, so I'll definitely need to research that regarding specific bigger runs.
Good Luck and you totally got this! Advice for next time, I run my marathons with a hydration belt because it’s allowed at most major marathons and I place the water in the small of my back so it doesn’t bother me while running with it and it holds my phone, gels, and salt tablets. (Flipbelt) I love having water when I need it. But you do have to get used to the belt first on your long runs. Don’t do anything new now!
Dedicate each of your last 6 miles to someone you love. You won't let them down 👍. I heard that Paula Radcliffe did that. Have fun Andy. It'll be a great day

Can I hear more about Freddie? How is he able to keep up with Andy and film?? Impressive! Good luck Andy! Can't wait for the video

Do a full course practice run 4 hrs before the actual marathon? Are you sure about that? 😮
😂
Let's hope it doesn't get down to the Union Jack outfit! 🇬🇧🙈🤣
I just ran my first half marathon today! Good luck Andy! You will smash it 💪
How it went?

That's an excellent idea! How ressourceful and moneysaving. Will definitely try that.
