    Hi. Thanks for the detailed video. I'm curious if you were able to communicate with the manufacturer about the "defects" such as the screws coming loose etc. and if so, were they receptive to your feedback and willing to research making improvements?

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  3 года назад +7

      Hi @Philip Kauppinen!
      I did not communicate with them directly. I do know that factory representatives watch people’s videos and they monitor forum groups for the purposes of collecting feedback.
      I’m going to be up at the factory soon. I plan to check in regarding quality improvements. They haven’t resumed factory tours yet, but I’ll see what I can do. Stay tuned…
      Thanks for watching & commenting!

      Hello @Meditative Essence! Thanks for your kind comment! It means a lot 🙂
      One thing to consider in the current production climate - I just spoke with the Rockwood factory yesterday. The have been able to keep parts in stock and run a full 5 day per week production schedule. Some manufacturers are running 2-3 days per week due to parts shortages. This is something to look into if you special order a rig vs. buying one from dealer stock.

    A tip from an old master mechanic (me) about screws coming out. If you have a screw that just won't cooperate about staying tight, perhaps a pop-rivet (sometimes with added small washers on both sides of the hole, if you can get to those areas) may be a more permanent fix like where your stove screws were. But keep in mind if you ever have to disassemble an item that's been riveted, you'll have to drill out the rivets so consider that before riveting.
    Good idea on tire upgrade, 'margin' on everything is a good idea, tow capacity, tires, battery amperage, all of it.

    I just noticed on a recent Forest River Geo Pro manufacturing tour, they are now double nutting the flooring screws. I think we have you to thank for this… My new 19FBS arrived in October. Beyond excited!

  • @nathanc3396
    @nathanc3396 3 года назад +3

    I chatted with the Factory. Heres some info you might want?
    "The lug nuts on the wheels need to be torqued between 95 and 110."
    We are double nutting the front bolt on each side of the trailer. All bolts get a lock nut and the front get a lock nut and a nylon lock nut. The issue started with the front ones coming loose and when those did, the rest followed - that is why we double nut the front.

      All the More Reason that I just ORDERED a 2021 Geo Pro! Because they CARE ABOUT QUALITY!
      I was told by more than one Dealer that Forrest River asks them "what are the Customers saying about their Trailers? They also wanted to know what the Customers were wanting to see added to the Trailers. Forrest River is certainly concerned about the Quality of their Products.

    • @mhfnet
      @mhfnet 3 года назад +1

      @@nathanc3396 Unfortunately that has not been my experience with Forest River. Check out my comment on my 2018 Rpod 179 and from a lot of Rpod owners in the forums especially in the past few years and hopefully they don't share similar build techniques and materials to Geo Pros or they have made improvements to fix the problems like Rpod owners have experienced? That being said I've done enough mods, improvements, and do regular inspections/maintenance to make it manageable. One thing for sure is put the rig through a good break-in and fix any issues while it's still under the 1 year warranty because after that they can be very expensive to fix.

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  3 года назад +3

      Yes, it’s an unfortunate reality.
      There’s still much opportunity for quality improvement.
      My attitude is this:
      1. Be aware & buy the best rig you can.
      2. Celebrate the advancements in quality. These advancements are not across the board, but are there with some brands. These advancements (like Azdel, aluminum framing and vacuum bonding) are complete game changers.
      3. Keep the pressure on for continuous improvement.

    Something you can do with screw holes, that usually works if they are stripped, is use some epoxy mixed with metal filings, use a release agent like wax on the screw. Just make sure the material you are repairing is thick enough. The metal filings reinforce the epoxy to the point where you can actually drill and tap it. May want to check if there is any issue with needing a certain type of epoxy that is particularly suited to Azdel or not, any wood items or alum items will be OK with a 5min epoxy. In wood and alum, you cand also use a rivnut, which needs a biigger hole, but, it expands into the material when tightened like a rivet, and then you can use whatever size and thred pitch screw as necc. They use them on fibreglas to install light brackets, mirror brackets etc.

    I bought a new 25 foot 2020 Airstream in the Spring of 2020. The first thing I did was remove all the screws inside and out I could and put Locktite on all of them. So far after over 10K miles nothing has come loose. I suggest everybody do this task. Be aware that if they did all you expect then the trailer would cost much more because this would slow down production. It is a sad reality in the RV business model.

    We are in the DFW area as well. Just bought a 2021 GeoPro 20BHS, this video was very informative and we did notice a couple differences they made in the past year of production. Maybe we will see you both on the road sometime. The only thing you didn't quite address that we have questions on....is our A/C. The controls on it seem quite basic and if they just added a digital thermostat or had the option for a remote for the A/C, that would be a game changer as well.

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  3 года назад +1

      Hi @kimelewis!
      I felt the same as you about the A/C controls. I also think a digital control would be an upgrade from than the simple dial controls.
      After living in our Geo Pro for the last 1.5 years, it's not the controls that I’d really like improved, it's the noise. Specifically, when the compressor kicks in with a loud “thump” it wakes me up at night. If I ever replace or upgrade the a/c, I'm going to look at installing a Coleman Mach 10 NDQ (non ducted quiet)
      I know overall this unit is quieter and I'm also curious if the compressor is quieter when kicking in.
      Thanks for watching & commenting!

    Purchased this trailer beginning of this year. Have taken it on multiple week long trips and thousands of miles. The four of us are beyond comfortable in it. So far I only have two complaints with the trailer. First was and easy fix. One battery just isn't enough. Went with 2 6Vs and it's more than enough now. The second was on the slide out side. The wheel well is open and doesn't connect to the side of the trailer. Driving in mud/snow or even just road grim can get thrown up onto the side of the trailer. Also inside if the same wheel well moisture can easily get into the slideout wall if not sealed properly. Spent about 20 minutes and a tube of exterior silicone on it. Probably going to be one of those yearly maintenance things I keep an eye on. As far as screws coming out and curtains falling down I have not seen that yet. It will happen, things break (especially if you have kids 🤣) just fix it move on and enjoy the adventures.

I do realize very rv is going to have its issues, but I still think for the price point the Geo Pro is the route I’m going with. I really like the 19fb with the Murphy bed. It just checks all the boxes for what I’m looking for. I’m just really amazed with the negative comments about the geo pro by these so to speak experts. I just laughed at the ignorance, and most complaints are usually from operator error. Like one I read about the Dexter axle being junk because if you speed around a corner and hit a curb you can’t get it realigned. Well slow down and don’t run up over a curb lol. What a great video! My husband and I purchased a Forest River product and it honestly was just poorly made. I believe that Forest River makes their products cheaply because of more probability in the end. Also, their customer service is so BAD! In the end the dealer and the manufacture do not care which is sad no matter how much money you spent.
    In the end we sold the Forest River product and purchased a Grand Design. I can't tell you enough what a huge difference a Grand Design truly is. I am not saying that we will never have any issues with the Grand Design, but I can say that the quality is night and day from the Forest River. Also, Grand Design is top notch when offering help and parts! Granted you will pay more, but in the end with great customer service, a overall better product it's worth the money. I am sure many people will disagree, but you pay for what you get.

    • @CrowdFreeRV

      Hi @Vickie Payne!
      We have heard similar comments from many owners regarding their Grand Design experience!
      I celebrate the higher levels of quality that GD is bringing to the marketplace! I believe that a rising quality tide will raise many ships.
      Forest River is a huge conglomerate encompassing many brands. Rockwood is but one of those brands. Their brands are not all created equal. Rockwood, like Grand Design is trying to do business better.
      The problem with the Grand Design comparison in this conversation is GD is better known for producing larger TT’s and 5th wheels. They do make some smaller units but I don’t consider them “ultralight” like the Geo Pro. Their smallest TT is an Imagine XLS 15FLE which has a UVW of 4,036 lbs. That’s about a half ton heavier than a Geo Pro of the same size. And Geo Pro has figured out how to make an ultralight that is still rugged enough to not start falling apart over the long haul.
      So... If a person is looking for a small ultralight TT, can you see why I would never steer them toward Grand Design?
      Now for larger travel trailers or 5th wheels, that is a completely different story.
      Hope this makes sense.
      Thanks for watching & commenting!!

    Based on your comments on the frame outrigger bolts, I checked my 2020 19FBS and all seem to be tight. I hesitate to loosen the factory installed nuts since I have no access to the hex head of the bolt (which should have been installed with a fender washer). However, I have been giving some thought to adding an additional stainless steel flat washer, lock washer and hex nut with red Loc-tite to add security to the bottom of the bolt. The flat washer and lock washer for position security, and the hex nut and red Loc-tite to keep the upper elements from releasing. Opinion? By the by, someone suggested replacing the rusting steel strap with one screw that holds the black and gray tank output with a muffler mount, like you would find on a car. Interesting.

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  4 года назад +1

      Hi @Glen Muir!
      I agree, a fender washer on the interior head side of the bolt would indeed allow some more tension to be applied to the fastener. I wish they would do this as well.
      Your plan of addressing the loosening nuts will work fine. But I feel like the stainless & lock washer would not be necessary. If it was me I would -
      1. Make sure the factory nuts are snug. If a bolt begins to spin, use a wrench to snug the nut while gently holding the bolt shank with a tool like pliers or vice grips. Wrap tape around the tool teeth and be gentle so the bolt threads are not damaged.
      2. Using a small wire brush, clean the bolt threads to remove any dirt.
      3. Apply the jam nut with red loctite. It just needs to be snug.
      .
      I like the muffler pipe hanger idea! My hanger just snapped at the point where it meets the grey pipe. Metal fatigue from flex I’m guessing. I’ve already purchased a replacement aluminum strap from Lowe’s but if it snaps I’ll try the exhaust hangar next. Great tip!

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  4 года назад +2

      👋 Hey @Jerry Gundrum! You are exactly right! Loctite was indeed formulated for metal-to-metal. In experimenting with wood-to-metal, I’ve discovered mixed results:
      For attaching things to the thin wood interior wallboard I’ve had fantastic results. My most surprising application was attaching wire baskets for towels in the bathroom of a toyhauler I formerly owned. I mounted these baskets, which were without attach points, by putting on eyelet zip ties to the baskets. I then screwed the zip tie eyelets to the wall. I drilled a small pilot hole, and used a shallow screw with loctite. The baskets fasteners all stayed tight and none of the fasteners failed. The baskets carried a surprising amount of weight of towels & washcloths.
      I’ve also tried using loctite on loosening interior screws where the wood was just too loose of grip for the loctite to work. In that instance loctite was useless and only a proper hole repair will work. I’ll usually epoxy in some wood toothpicks or a bit of wood dowel.
      Hope this helps!

    Does it seem to bounce more on rougher roads than a double axle trailer? Does it seem like the cabinet materials are going to hold up long term? Have you had any problem overloading the inverter and have to reset it? Would it be hard to replace the 1000watt inverter with a 2000 watt. This year they have moved up to a 190 solar panel :) I like that!!! I would add a 2nd 190 panel, 2000 watt inverter and two Li's. They have also started using a much larger deeper sink.....thank goodness!!! Also a 10ft cu ft 12V fridge is available.....I feel good about that!!!!

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  4 года назад +1

      👋 Hey Richard!
      It's hard to say if it bounces more than a comparable size/weight trailer with double axles. I would need to test both to answer that. But... just from my own experience, a small ultralight travel trailer will have more bounce than larger heavier units. My previous two trailers were 27' and 29' toy haulers and substantially heavier. They seemed to bounce less but would "porpoise" more depending on how much cargo I was hauling in the garage.
      I've only overloaded my inverter once. I tried running our small portable vacuum cleaner with it. It was too much wattage.
      As to the ease of installing a 2000 watt inverter, the thing to investigate is the power feeders running from the batteries to the inverter. If they are large enough to handle the extra power demand from the larger inverter, it would be a simple bolt-in replacement. If they are too small you would need to run larger wires. It would be good to do that project in conjunction with upgrading to Li batteries.
      Man, I sure would love that larger sink!
      As to the larger 12v fridge, it sounds like a potentially good upgrade. But some people are reporting that the compressor is noisy. And I'm curious how much power it draws for when you are boondocking and running off batteries. I'm not against the 12v fridge, just cautiously curious.
      Thanks for watching & commenting Richard!

      @@CrowdFreeRV I like how you think. I'm in full agreement on the Li Battleborns. My dream system would be:
      4 - Battle Born 100 Ah 12 V LiFePO4 Deep Cycle batteries
      1 - Victron BMV-712 Battery Monitor with Bluetooth built-in
      1 - Victron Multiplus Inverter/Charger 3000 W
      1 - Precision Circuits Battery Guardian
      1 - Zamp Solar 30-AMP LiFePO4 Solar Charge Controller
      It would be a boondocking dream :)
      With the wiring already in place from the factory "hopefully" it would be possible to pull the appropriate size wires to where they would need to go. The inverter in the pass through mounted on a wall would work well, the batteries under the bed with a small electric fan in the side of the bed's stand to provide heat and ventilation would be good.
      Being able to run the AC from the battery bank would be awesome. A&M says to figure a hour of AC for every 100 AH battery.
      I'm very pleased with the move towards the 12V compressor fridge but wish they would have used the Furrion Arctic fridge instead.
      I am also considering the Rockwood Mini lite but weight (CCC) is a major consideration. My t v is a Toyota Tundra rated at 7100 lbs tow and a paltry 1325 lb CCC
      I love the looks of both the Geo and the Mini Lite but the thought of a blow out at 60mph with a single axle is something that has to be taken into consideration. It will get a lot of hwy miles as it will be a full timer for a couple of years. Our retirement gift to ourselves.
      Thanks for your vids....they are appreciated!

      I use a 3400 watt generator which weighs 114 wet. It’s a chore to lift in & out of the truck to be sure.
      The first thing to consider is custom modifications to the trailer frame voids the factory warranty.

      You would need to find a weld/fab shop who is experienced in this type of custom work who could look at the project & advise you from there.

      @CrowdFreeRV  3 года назад +2

      👋 Hi @Nicholas Gunder!
      My answers will start backwards:
      1. Yes, weight on the tail of the trailer was a big concern. At 60mph my Geo was very sway-stable. Above 65 I experienced quite a lot of sway. So much so, I ran with as little weight in the rear as possible, and a full fresh water tank in the front so my hitch weight ratio increased from 10% to 15%. This helped most of the time. Occasionally the sway was still there. It was usually just exhausting but at times, like in construction zones, it was a bit dangerous. I installed a Hensley Hitch which 100% fixed the sway and made tail weight a non issue. The Geo now tows like a dream and tail weight is a non issue.
      2. The bike rack mounts on a custom fabricated receiver hitch by a weld/fab shop. The first install was a complete failure. The welds fatigued and then broke. So... I’m going to have the hitch redone in the spring. After I do, I’ll do a video talking about the whole process.
      3. The bike rack is a Kuat Sherpa purchased from REI. We LOVE this bike rack! www.rei.com/product/109437/kuat-sherpa-20-2-bike-hitch-rack

      The swagman and curt adjustable width trailer hitches are what was suggested to me and verified by other geo pro owners. They bolt on or can be welded to several types of frames. I was hoping to get extra validation before ordering one

    It would be nice if they had a cover u could place over the front window when u are underway. Replacing that window will be expensive. I know others that said theirs cracked too and was 800 dollars to replace.

      @CrowdFreeRV  4 года назад +3

      I agree @Mike Brandenburg. The window isn’t worth it if it gets broken frequently. I’ll let y’all know how much mine costs to be replaced. And when it’s replace I’m going to look at having a clear protective film applied - like the clear bra material that’s out there.

      Thanks for the tip @rick klein! For my initial fix I put some epoxy at the "snap together" points of that bottom trim piece. So far so good. After a few thousand more miles it has not come apart again.

    I’m appreciative in the fact that our homes (generally) are not put together by the “Lighthouse for the Blind”. I assume during the purchase of a new RV, you should take a weekend to apply sealant and Loc-Tite?

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  4 года назад +1

      That’s a correct assumption @Bryan Woody. Just speaking for my particular Geo Pro, the roof sealant was fantastic, but everywhere else was sealed quick & sloppy. So yeah, I did a lot of sealing when I brought it home.
      .
      We’re keeping our Geo Pro for adventuring but it’s small for us full time living in. So... we have picked out a 2021 Keystone Outback Ultralight 244UBH as a possible new full time home. We recently looked at one at a dealer. The roof sealant was bad. Every inch of roof sealant was cracking & gaping. I’m assuming they applied a batch of bad seal. The entire roof needed a reseal and this was a brand new unit by a reputable manufacturer. The entire supply chain was disrupted during Covid. The unit we looked at was built during Covid. I’m wondering if their usual sealant was unavailable so they used what they could get. Just speculation on my part.
      But... bottom line you need to depend on yourself or someone you trust to make sure things are right.

    Ben
    I just watched your post on the tour of the Forest River plant and Geo Pro build... thank you ... very helpful in providing info to assist in decision making
    Thank you for your previous post regarding the heat strip and power outlets.
    As you may know, GeoPro units are scarce ...so I have not found a dealer within 200 mile of my home that has one for me to look at before purchase.
    I was wondering if you could describe the wall covering? What are you using to hang you art and decorations on the walls? Issues ?

    • @CrowdFreeRV
      @CrowdFreeRV  4 года назад

      The interior wallboard is from what I can tell the industry standard stuff that’s been used for a long time. It’s wooden wallboard of about 1/8” thickness. On the outer walls there are aluminum studs and on most of the inner walls there are wood studs.
      I try avoid putting screws in my walls as much as possible. So, with screws I’ve installed a paper towel holder, small spice holder, magnetic knife block, and small fruit basket. I always drill pilot holes & use locktite red on the screw. I’ve never had a screw loosen or fall out.
      On everything else I use picture command strips. I love these strips because I can change it up without putting holes in the walls. I also like to avoid the risk of damage to wiring. The command strips hold fantastic. I have had one large picture that won’t stay up in transit. This is due to the hollow wall flexing when going down the road. It hangs on the forward part of the bunks by the furnace thermostat. The whole wall does not flex, but the wallboard does. I just take that picture down and put it on the bed during transit.
      Hope this helps! Always glad to help especially right now when inventory is so low. I’m hearing things should catch up in a couple months.
      Best wishes & I hope you find the perfect rig for your needs!

    Cabinet doors breaking due to cheap plastic joints that connect them, clamp that holds tank valves, spilling contents on the road are just some of the issues with my 2017 16B with 3000 miles on it. I haven’t used it for 2 yrs due to the issues with it. Being stored in a nice temp control garage until I feel its safe to take it out. I will never buy another one of these again.
