I grew up in Texas and have been to Cozumel, Cancun, Acapulco, the touristy kinds of places in Mexico. Don't know about Spain, but generally, the cartels really don't mess with tourists and will leave them alone. There are exceptions, like if you steal from them, of course, but it's very rare. There was a book about jay on amazon by Andres A Lambert which is an anagram of ' stab near del mar' so if it was jay getting stabbed on the beach its a hell of a coincidence
