Miigwech (thank you) to whoever posted this. My family is heavily featured in this film, including many other friends and elders who have since passed away. I remember being around as a kid as Nick was filming, and watching this is like going home again. White Earth is complicated place, but it's where my heart is. Again, miigwech. ❤️
I ONLY KNOW ABOUT CA. TRIBES , BUT THIS SOUNDS SO TYPICAL ! ONCE IN IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE ! EVEN WHEN THERE IS KNOWN CORRUPTION ! THERE IS SO MUCH INTERNAL FIGHTING !
Hello guy's I'm a White Earth Chippewa from Minnesota.. But I was born and raised in Auburn Washington on the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation..I always wondered if I have family members alive over there yet my grandpa was Chief White Eagle..
chip wadena. My grandfather who I love and miss so much he took care of me when my parents couldn’t and I love him with all my heart and it hurts me that you would say such mean things about someone who is DEAD please just let my papa Rest In Peace
There needs to be a rule that all people running for office announce it by a certain date, so everyone is aware of who's running. Also, each candidate should have access to the mailing list to be able to procure votes from the ones living off the reservation. It's the only true way the election can be fair!
I grew up 2 miles from rice lake reservation nothing has changed its still corrupt and drugs are taking over .. im glad i moved my life is better now that im not in that environment
I remember driving between Mahnomen and Bagley from time to time, and seeing that Superchief bug deflector come rolling up behind me and blowing right past. Chip, man...what a crook.
Great documentary. Hope it works out for the tribe and their new leader . The sad thing in this whole affair is the trials and tribulations that befell the first nations (and continue to do so today) is imho, you are all members of the same tribe, who have gone through, the same problems. You need to stop the bickering and pull together,. Solidarity , transparency, truth and love is the ONLY way for the Ojibwe people. I hope the Creator watches over you , protects you and guides you in this unfair world.
JANETTE BALDWIN "Karma" is the PC concept de jour proffered by the hopeless and fatalistic cloaked in some vague (and imported) promise of retribution and restoration by the "Universe." It is complacency writ large, a thinly veiled promotion of stasis, a refusal to implement the collective KNOWLEDGE of our history and the Lessons Leaned from such. It requires nothing from the affected other than a belief in some foreign and magical intercession to relieve the responsibility from the Native peoples to actively engage in exercising their own Agency. If one were to understand the concept of "Karma" in it's spiritual and cultural context, the only conclusion as a result? First Nations people apparently did something(s) for which the outcome is entirely their responsibility and of their own doing: Their own historical and ongoing genocide. Retreating to words that are bastardized and edited selectively from their actual historical context but sound and appear "wise" are momentarily soothing to the proponent: Beyond that, the proponent is exposed as ignorant (in the dictionary definition as words *do* have specific meaning) but self-serving. Blaming the victim behind words is not the instillation of Hope but the re-traumatizing of those same human beings and directly promoting (at best) the same profoundly experienced anomie and hopelessness we have lived with (and died with) for generations. In no way are my words a "namaste, bitch" which also is apparently a current "de jour"-and clearly insulting response. I am not seeking to argue but to request you learn/contemplate the concept of "Karma" as it applies to Native history and experience. Differences of perspective and opinion open the door to constructive discussion and constructive action. Best wishes and thank you for your comment (ohhh, how I do wish Karma would address what ails!) and your consideration.
JANETTE BALDWIN keep doing the same thing repetitively and it will eventually catch up to you that applies for both good and bad as far as the good it is nice to be nice but only to the point of being a fool as far as being bad everyone is watching you and talking about you always and eventually someone will do something when they ran into the wrong person
Fixitright..The chief looks like an Indian, perhaps with some European ancestry, which is also the ancestry of many cartel members as well as of the majority of people from Mexico & Central America. That’s why you see a similarity in their appearances. Of course, the chief’s thick mustache makes him look more typically Mexican, as most Indians of the US don’t tend to have that much facial hair.
Does anybody give him credit for building the reservation up . He put paved roads, adequate housing ,a casino he did whatever he could to better the white earth reservation!!!!! And his great grandfather was chief wadena the very first chief of white earth.
Idk I feel like chips legacy did far more for the reservation than Erma and Bugger besides taking from the people the only thing Erma really did was to force us into the MCT
Pretty much unchanged. Irma is no better. They are killing themselves with heroin now. If you go to the reservation it looks the exact same, except for some casino improvements
What a mess. Of course that chief is getting kickbacks. You don't have to be a genius to figure that out. Seems to me watching this there's not enough educated native Americans there to do anything about it. They need someone with some intelligence to organize a group of people to get the word out, have a fair election process, beat this guy do what's right and spread the money to all the tribal people equally.

Those two are not Native they are sellouts.
To many chiefs fams. You all need one solid elder. That wants the people first.
Chip needs.a railroad out sistah.
22:40 That 1 penny was more than all the casino employees got in raises when bugger was the GM
I would love to see another documentary done. To show how little really has changed.
