The New York City drag kid is inspiring others left and right with his positive attitude to 'be yourself always no matter what anyone says.' At only 10 years old, Desmond has already immersed himself with a handful of LGBTQ youth advocacy projects and is making one thing clear: Desmond Is Amazing is the future and we're here for it.

I would find it more “inspiring” if he created an age appropriate drag thing for kids where kids aren’t sexualized, they don’t do provocative dancing, and they can still play around with makeup and fun (again, child appropriate) outfits. These children wouldn’t be in strip clubs or performing for adults!

Yeah, you should only really do drag when you're older because it's sort of sexual. I'm glad he's expressing himself but I feel like doing this is sort of wrong. Kids should not grow up like this(including having no gender) because it will just confuse them. If they figure out that they are something else when they understand more about the world and themself then so be it.

As a drag performer , I gotta say , even if we all like children , many of us do not feel comfortable with them being in drag shoes venues. Many of them are adult-spaces that are very sexualised.

I'm all about loving and accepting our kids for whomever they are, but I think sexualizing any child or encouraging or allowing them to do so, is totally inappropriate. I wouldn't permit a daughter to wear makeup and flaunt her body at this age either, there is plenty of time for that much later.

Letting your child do whatever they want is not a way to show concern, love, and cares. You as the adult one has to give them options and set out their path for them. Eg: If they were rude to others, you tell them that it is bad. If they did something good you praise them. If they went astray from the public believe, you should be there for them and give your opinion but not letting the child who is not even an adult to decide everything on their own. I used to think that living a leisure life and doing nothing is a good thing because I will not harm anyone and myself, I will also be happy but now that I am an adult, I think that it was a good thing my parent did not let me do that because I almost destroy myself by becoming lazy and uneducated. If you love him, let him explore the world the norm way first until he reaches the age where he should decide everything by himself.
I am gay and I am all for it when it comes to drag having been in drag myself and having tons of close friends who does drag. BUT! I do feel like that art has a certain limit to when it should be "tried" or "entered".

I think if you've got little kids wearing skimpy outfits and sassily lipsyncing to 'S&M' by Rihanna, it's real gross. If I had kids and they were interested in drag, sure, I'd let them dress up and play with makeup if they like and dance and lipsync AT HOME. Until they get older, I won't let them do public performances. And I certainly won't let money be thrown at them or anything. I think drag can be very empowering and fun, like any activity. And just like any activity, it becomes how you make it. If you make it sexual, it is. If you make it about playing dress up and becoming your own cool character and having a little fun, that's what it is. It's like pole dancing. It can be about stripping and provocative performances, if you make it. Or, it can be for fitness and something you do to empower and love yourself. I just think kids should not be exposed to some of the adult elements of drag we've so clearly seen in this video.

I love how she equated making her sons costumes to what a soccer or dance parent would do for their child. It's no different. Drag is a form of theatre and expression. I was immersed in theatre my entire life and it became my "sanctuary" - a safe place where I could be myself. Thanks for sharing this, Mashable. Awesome story!

I love this!! what I would of given to be this kid at his age.. I think his mum is amazing... I did this growing up. I'm now 27 and gay although it was always in secret either with my grandmother or my aunty keeping it from my parent's every time I'd visit from the age of 5 and older, having slumber party watching the Australian Mardi gras with my grandmother at age of 7 and older is one of my favorite memories with her.. what I would have given to live my best life at age 10.. power to you both ❤❤❤

I’m 11 and I watch drag race I’m not forced to, I’m not being sexualized. All of you don’t know how it really feels because you aren’t as young. Even though I am a girl I do drag. I’ve never been to a drag show but I watch drag race and drag videos everyday. They inspire me and aspire me to be the amazing person I believe I am.
