I'm playing this for school talent show. I'm dedicating it to my girlfriend who is going through hard times right now and I hope that I can cheer her up with a little bit of love. :)
This song always makes me weep - while the song itself is beautiful, the real gut punch for me is because of my wife. She has been playing piano for years and has been teaching and performing for most of her life. She's also small, standing at just over five feet, and she has small features, such as little hands. As anyone in the piano playing world knows - big hands and long fingers can be unbelievably beneficial. She was practicing this piece for months and there were a number of hard parts she kept getting close with, but ultimately kept stumbling with. (see 2:49 to 3:11 for one of those areas) and even the day before her performance, she was still having issues with those pieces and was considering not doing it. She went ahead and did it anyway and nailed every single note. No flubs, no timing errors. Nothing. It was flawless. I saw her determination to get it right, and the fire inside of her to control that piano, and she nailed every aspect. It's that moment of unbelievable pride I have for her, and seeing that glint in her eye that said "I crushed that" that wells up in me when I hear this piece. I've heard people play this because that's just a piece they play, but my wife's heart and soul shone on that stage, and it was beautiful.
I came across this video when I was in high school and I remember really wanting to learn this piece but my piano skills at the time were not there yet. I graduated high school in 2016. It is now 2022 and I’m able to take on this piece. This performance really inspired me.
This has always been one of my favourite pieces since I was young and heard my Aunt play it (she was a concert pianist). Tia has a wonderful "classical" interpretation of this music - the way it was meant to be played. She has excellent technique and dynamics. Actually used to play a bit of it myself - the first and the last notes LOL Have the music here somewhere still and used to flounder through it when I was young - I sight read everything and never practised anything. Well done Tia!
Beautiful playing, Tia. You have great talent and can follow whatever musical path you choose. Make sure you never stop believing in yourself and may you have a fulfilling life and a long and great career.
Oh my god, this is beautiful! A beautiful work wonderfully played! It's been a few years since I've last stumbled across a piece by Sibelius unknown to me, what a treat!
I've been to a few piano events and all of them were boring, aimed for fart wine and cheese crowd. ZZZZ. Gimme some beer, weed, and mud wrestling females!
Thanks, the poem goes well with the song: "To live I don't want islands, palaces, towers. What steeper joy Than living in pronouns! Take off your clothing, features, pictures; I don't want you like that, masked as another, always a daughter of something. I want you pure, free, irreducible: you". Pedro Salinas. Many kisses
I liked this piece since hearing it played by more advanced students back when I was a little girl. It's on my list of fun pieces to learn some day. Great job.
Someday is here. I've learned most of it, in two days, but can in no way play it fluently yet. That will come. It's a relentless earworm and won't get out of my head until I'm well on the way to getting it up to parr.
If you didn't record this, I wouldn't have been able to learn this piece. I learn piano best through listening and since I don't have a piano teacher anymore, I took on the challenge of learning this piece on my own. I really appreciate this video Tia!! I'll be recording this song tomorrow to put on my first CD. It's a beautiful song. :) Very well done.
I am pleased to see that people still use the Matthay method of playing. The color that can be achieved is much more vivid, as expertly shown in this performance. Great job!
This is such an endearing work. The theme is almost like a Chopin but is really sibelius. Whenever I hear this i would think of a full orchestra and it's warmth. I could almost hear the cellos singing the first theme and the clarinets playing the melody to come... I really hear it not as a piano but as a full orchestra. Really inspires me to arrange this for an orchestra. Will be really breathtaking.. as it already is!! :)
I'm playing this piece right now for my final level 10 syllabus (coming up really soon), and this is really good! Hopefully, if I practice a lot, I'll be able to play like this. ;)
I remember I was going to pick up this piece several years ago when I was doing my Grade 9 RCM, but I ended up choosing Notturno by Grieg instead. After hearing this over-and-over, I somewhat regret my decision. Well played!
@asianpianoman BTW a classical approach certainly does not mean a strict tempo. It follows the instructions, dynamics and tempo stated by the composer on the music whatever they may be.
what a cute name for a CD! wow touring? that's cool. i didn't know she was so big. well thankyou for your help, i guess i'll look for a piano version through another artist...
@zamander When did I ever complain? I specifically said that I wasn't bashing her interpretation. I just said that this is anything BUT a "classical" interpretation.
Its easy to see where where the writers for Gerry Lewis and the Playboys got the motive theme for their hit "Count Me In". I was just sitting here taking it all in, until I suddenly realized this. Thank you Tia, Andy.
Thank you. This is right. Too many simply wacky interpretations out there. He said something along the lines "To the people accustomed to drinks and cocktails I offered the crystal clear water of mountain brooks". So cut the psychedelic crap.
@asianpianoman well we disagree mate and that's OK - I have been playing piano since 8 yo and am 60 - I did it professionally in bands for many years was also a Military Musician for some time - my guitar player has his degree in the subject. We read everything. Tia plays it like my Aunt did - full of light and shade, not hurried and more of a romantic piece as it should be played. I regard that as the classical method in my opinion probably meaning more "traditional" which again I like.
@asianpianoman Could it be that different styles are suited to different composers? I mean, this piece and that of Beethoven's are two different creations. Isn't comparing them and complaining differences in playing styles rather like complaining that Johnny Cash is too country.
Excellent performance! Though, I found the second half to be lacking in emotion compared to the first half. It just didn't seem passionate enough. Very well done otherwise. :)
@denis4510 Ummmmmmm.... you know a "classical" approach would mean a strict tempo. And ms. Eagle plays this with anything BUT a strict tempo. I'm not bashing her interpretation, but it's certainly NOT classical.
This is very nicely played. The rubato is however quite excessive at times, and the splitting of the low chord after the downward run (at 3:02) abrupts the flow. There are also some puny details along the piece and in the very end catching my ears, which may however go without itemizing.
Not terrible, but maybe a little flawed. I feel that she did draw it out a bit, but the dynamics were pretty good for the most part. The main problem was just balancing the volume both hands, but the mic quality can be factored in. Otherwise, this was a very nice performance. Before anyone gets mad at me, I have been classically trained (EDIT: in piano) for about 10 years now.
Do you even play piano. I have learnt this song and I know the tempo os supposed to be faster. Don't say whatever other people that ACTUALLY know about music say.
She is not mature enough to play this piece. Too much banging, overpedaling, broken phrasing, shallow and simply unprofessional. I would be ashamed to post a video with such mediocre performance.

That’s so sweet! I know I’m late, but I hope she gets better, or already is better 😁
Sorry that I am only saying it now, I know I am over an year late, but hope she got better!
mb im kinda late and u probably had like 10 other girlfriends by now but hopefully she cheered up
It's been 4 years, so I know I'm really late, but hope she's doing well

This is such a gorgeous piece to the point where it made me cry. I never cry whenever I listen to piano pieces, so this is definitely well played.
Many thanks from Finland, God bless you.

That cadenza was flawless.
In fact, this whole performance was.
Congratulations!

Brings back many precious memories of learning to play this romantic composition.
You have inspired me to seriously consider learning this beautiful piece.....
Oh my god, this is beautiful! A beautiful work wonderfully played! It's been a few years since I've last stumbled across a piece by Sibelius unknown to me, what a treat!
HandattheHelm this piece is in AMEB grade 8
a wonderful composition and a great pianist
Jean Sibelius ...the pride of Finland. ...For you Ms.Morales. ..thank you for the wallpaper and your ever thriving spirit
bummer, no one is watching her. She needs to wear a bikini and play the piano while balancing on a stripper pole. Now that will get her an audience
Danny Max crazy as usual ....DANNY MAX
I've been to a few piano events and all of them were boring, aimed for fart wine and cheese crowd. ZZZZ. Gimme some beer, weed, and mud wrestling females!
Danny Max I do both. .need diversity ..lmao

beautiful! My hands hurt after practicing this. She is amazing!
Like, Wow. A beautiful piece played by a beautiful woman.
Your tempo and expression are exquisite Tia. Well done.
Too slow

Miss Capri I've been playing this piece for 5 years now- only gets more fun and better with time!

absolutely lovely!

Thank you Tia Eagle!
A wonderful performance Tia's performance nudged me to give it a try. Hope I do it justice.
In the great tradition of romantic music. Delicious. Could eat it all day. Debussy is an influence here which JS acknowledged.
came here from the movie 45 years and loved the music!
Beautiful! I just started this piece, and I hope the end result is at least half as good as that!! :)
Love the man and his music
Wow fantastic, as usual Tia ! You play that piece ever so well :) Good video.
Wonderful! I enjoyed your beautiful interpretations music very much.
Nice playing, thx for sharing this beautiful work.
Beautiful Blessings upon your music career!!
My god, I need to play this!!
awh i like this so much!
BRAVO TIA SUPERBE!
이 해석이 너무나도 마음에 든다
마음 깊은곳 까지 침전되는 느낌이다
I'm learning this! Beautifully played! :)
my sentiments exactly regarding the possible orchestration!
I'm playing this piece right now for my final level 10 syllabus (coming up really soon), and this is really good!
Hopefully, if I practice a lot, I'll be able to play like this. ;)
this is one song i love to practice
One madness to play... Well done...
Bravissimo, Tia.
Awesome recital! Keep up the good work :-)
Hyvä Tia, hienosti soitettu ja vaikuttava video! :)
so well played!
I remember I was going to pick up this piece several years ago when I was doing my Grade 9 RCM, but I ended up choosing Notturno by Grieg instead. After hearing this over-and-over, I somewhat regret my decision.
Well played!
I’m 13 and doing it for my grade 9 rcm in a week
wonderful :)
Excellent!
Heavenly
Great.👏
I love your hair!!!
I agree. I think all of Sibelius' piano works are more like orchestral reductions. I'm arranging his f# sonatine right now for chamber orchestra.
@asianpianoman BTW a classical approach certainly does not mean a strict tempo. It follows the instructions, dynamics and tempo stated by the composer on the music whatever they may be.
thanks
what a cute name for a CD! wow touring? that's cool. i didn't know she was so big. well thankyou for your help, i guess i'll look for a piano version through another artist...
Just beautiful!!@
wtf thats in colchester?! i've definitely played there before haha. small world...
👏👏👏

You know what? I take it back. How can I be a musician and tell you how to express your version of the song.
ihana !
Thank you. This is right. Too many simply wacky interpretations out there. He said something along the lines "To the people accustomed to drinks and cocktails I offered the crystal clear water of mountain brooks". So cut the psychedelic crap.
Beauty
where can i buy this song?
as in, mp3, i got the sheet music :)

yea i thought so 2. but no mistakes in notes
@denis4510 Really? Try playing Beethoven Piano Concerto 1 and taking as much time as Tia does at the climactic part for every phrase in the Beethoven.
You know what. For me Sibelius never wrote a dud note. Here is further proof.
excellent...!!!
I love 2:25
@jack930803 Good luck! :D
@asianpianoman

*30,000. lol you should have waited a bit!
I feel like her hands need to be a bit more curved though. They look a bit flat.
xod0llfacex3 whatever works for her is fine. She might have smaller hands and need to keep them flat so she can reach octaves easier.
ni
Excellent performance! Though, I found the second half to be lacking in emotion compared to the first half. It just didn't seem passionate enough. Very well done otherwise. :)
I think you take the rubato too seriously. Take it fast and less held back.
Как чёпорно....где эмоции? И движение вперёд, контрастная динамика?

Хоть кто-нибудь может сыграть этот романс ровно, чтоб был понятен ритм?? В одном такте то 6,то 8,то 9 четвертей.
terrible. too slow and dragged. both hands were too loud
Oh, shut up!
If you can make a recording here and reach more likes than her, then we'll believe you
Not terrible, but maybe a little flawed. I feel that she did draw it out a bit, but the dynamics were pretty good for the most part. The main problem was just balancing the volume both hands, but the mic quality can be factored in. Otherwise, this was a very nice performance.

If you can do it better otherwise shut up
Far too slow…it loses its musical impulse. The phrasing becomes disconnected and disjointed and the impetus is lost.
She is not mature enough to play this piece. Too much banging, overpedaling, broken phrasing, shallow and simply unprofessional. I would be ashamed to post a video with such mediocre performance.
Very bad
In your humble opinion which is not respected. You are clearly jealous and ageist. Please post a video of you playing this.
@@vaneschew2746 Let’s see you do better!
