@defundthewar The March1969 tour is the most shocking of how she aged when she was 46 yrs old. Her singing at the piano with Johnnie Ray really shows a very ill Judy Garland. In 1964 it seemed she started to gain toward the end of TJGS by 1965-66 she gained alot maybe it was her liver condition acting up? In late 66 she slimmed down by '67 lost it all probably from that Tea & Cigarette diet which must have been hell on her system & aged her. That 1969 documentary really shows Judy needing help.

I know there was an alienation. I read Lorna's book, which was great! I understand that her and her children experienced a sort of separation in her final years, but stopping someone from entering the hotel, I don't think, is shunning. Liza probably welcomed Judy into her home most of the time, except for the nights in which Lorna and Joe would flee to Liza's for a night or two, in which Judy might have come to Liza's to get them back, which Liza might have deemed unwarranted.

@defundthewar I remember watching the Barbara Walters "Today Show "interview where Judy mentioned her fasting technique You're right, fasting that way & for such a long time is very unhealthy because the body goes into starvation mode. At 4'11'' Judy's build, made any weight gain or loss look severe. I noticed on TV that she was mainly filmed or photgraphed from the left side/angle/profile of her face since it was her considered her "good side" My favorite look of Judy is from june 1963

@defundthewar I think Judy's look from 1949 during the film "ITGOS" she looked really beautiful. I first heard the cup of tea diet during the1967 barbara walters interview."ASIB" some parts Judy looked very young in the mirror scene when Norman Maine finished her makeup with the powder puff but when she got up & shivvering & turned around she looked much older when he put his jacket around her. Judy a great pair of legsin get happy & Mr Monotony number. I liked her makeup when dottie was hired.

@1:24, is that "little Angie Dickerson" (as Shelley Winters would say) in the background???

I'm pretty sure Liza didn't "shun" her. Liza was married and living in her own place in New York with husband Peter Allen.

Officially she made 35 movies, but she also made a number of shorts (a few with her sisters) prior to MGM,,she may be including those

Would someone please tell me why Lorna would EVER write such a non flattering book about someone she claimed to love so much? She really painted Judy as a mean and at times vicious women. Where was that great sense of humor and intelligence she was going to write about. How come she didn't mention that her dad was known to HIT HER MOM? How is it that Judy's fans actually know more about her Mother than she does? It seems as though Lorna and Liza, especially Lorna love to play the poor me game. Judy was victim by a Mother who only cared about her daughter becoming famous therefore she would be famous. The studio wouldn't let her eat, called her homely, fed her pills to keep her going. They didn't care about the person.at all. no wonder she had demons. Also Liza's dad committed her to a Sanatorium where they gave he 3 doses of electric shock. No wonder.

I think, from what I’ve read and seen over the years concerning Judy Garland, that she may have had Borderline Personality Disorder/and Codependency. It’s a very serious and complicated mental illness. Just a guess, but a lot of what I’ve learned about Judy rings true from what my friend as gone through who has it. They can be mean( my friend hasn’t to me, but has shut me out before) and vindictive at times, but my friend isn’t that way at her core. She can be a sweet, thoughtful, loving, caring friend. Add to Judy’s problems other issues like drug, alcohol, and eating disorders. She was a famous person dealing with a demanding schedule, immense pressure, ( and some bad people) among all the other things. I’m sure she was in a living hell. I bet she did love her children in ways she knew how, but I also know it can be very confusing and hard for loved ones to deal with. The family didn’t know what to do, nor did professionals know how to diagnose or treat it in those days. I’m sure they all did the best they could under the circumstances.
