- 70 miles away from my PS5 and no usable wifi available! Could I potentially use my iPhone’s mobile hotspot to setup my PlayStation Portal and connect to my far away PS5!? Let’s find out!!

Im happy to have one because it allows me to complete more games that I haven't played from my bed. I have now beaten 2 games on my Portal, that I've been wanting to finish for a while on the PS5 but finally completed them on the portal from the comfort of the bed.

Does it carry your progress off from ur ps5 and vice Versa? I wanna play certain games on it but don’t wanna have to start new game when I’m at a certain point already on my ps5. And yeh also does it carry my progress on my portal to my ps5 ?
@billa381 Yes! All progress is carried over instantly because you’re basically playing on your PS5. You’re just not playing on a TV Screen and instead remotely through your PS Portal over the internet.

To hook it up to your iPhone. Open the settings and go to your hotspot and leave it open until it connects. I love gaming this way

I live in Tn. Played my portal in Washington State while visiting family over Christmas. It performed great! As long as you have good wifi your good.

some of you guys got to change ur wifi settings on the portal make sure its matches with your ps5 for example if your ps5 is on 5ghz for internet change your portal to 5ghz because it’s automatically sets to 2ghz and also unplug hdmi thats will help a lot

I don’t have the option to change mine to 5GHZ. Don’t know if it’s my internet provider or if I have to pay more a month to get that option lol. But as of now, hardwired internet is working wonders for me!

Love Android for the fact we can hotspot hotel WiFi connection as well! Make the switch till apple follows all European demands that means apple will open up to side loading and add features like androids WiFi host hotspot
For it to download an update it has to have built in internal storage it’s just hidden kinda like the original vita

Yes it can be on rest mode and still connect because the PS Portal will turn on your PS5 from rest mode.
Let's say your on vacation, how many days can the PS5 console be on standby mode ? will the console shut down if not in use ? this also can be a problem, because the console always have to be on I supposed, you can't just wake it up from a device
The PS5 can be in rest mode for as long as you want. It’ll be on rest mode for weeks or months. The only thing that could interrupt it is some sort of power outage that could potentially happen in your house, but that’s it.

Only problem is if your ps5 is disk one and your away from home your stuck playing whatever disk you left in your machine

I love mine and have 0 issues using it . I drive a semi and use my phone for hospot . I drive arounduntil i find a strong spot to park with 5g at full bars . Use hotspot and game away . Runs almost as good as it does at home . Small drop like every 10-15 min for maybe 4 seconds itll get a little blurry . Sometimes it doesnt happen at all . All i can say is for 200$ im pleased with what i got .

Can someone please help me understand HOW to get the Portal to work outside my home on another wifi network? Mine always fails to connect unless Im at home. I have a Google Nest wifi setup with one additional wifi point. I can play at home fine as long as I'm close to the router, but can't use any other wifi signal at all
Is your PS5 connected to the internet through WiFi or the Ethernet cable? It may work better if you connect your PS5 through an Ethernet for a faster connection. Also what kind of WiFi are you using away from home? Is it public or at someone else’s house?
What is the best hotspot? How many gbs do I need a month ? I’m at T-Mobile boutta get 10gb a month and a device free 24 month plan 30 a month
I have AT&T unlimited! So I have unlimited data. It does become slower once I use too much of it, but for the most part works great!
Why does my ps portal can’t connect to my HS? I see a lot of ppl connect to HS without any issues. Can someone help me to figure it out?
Check the connection - and by that I mean, make sure your bars on your phone are all the way up. If they aren’t, then walk or drive to a different location where your LTE bars are full. That should get you a smooth connection. Also, if you could connect your PS5 through the Ethernet cable at home, that should help with a better connection!
This only works on 5 g network and for some reason. Mines ain’t connecting away from home. I live in the islands with shyyty Wi-Fi but I still love it. It lags a lot but that’s because of the connection

I love my playstation portal but It still blows my mind you cannot hook witeless buds up to it, you cant stream youtube, movies nothing. If they make a portal 2 I really hope its better than this one.

So did this turn your tv on? Because Im trying to use my portal without my tv going on. Every time I use the portal my tv turns on. Ik the console needs to be either in rest mode or on. But Is there a way I can use the portal without my tv going on and the system turning blue? Plz help
You can turn off the blue sound on your PS5 through the settings, but you can’t turnoff the system from having that blue light when it’s on. You can also change your TV from turning on with your console through settings as well - or you can always just remove the HDMI cable temporarily from the back of your PS5 if you don’t want it turning on the TV as well lol
You need to disable hdmi link to turn on/off your tv. Its under setting in PS5

Change My Mind
I’ve been trying to connect to my portal through my iPhone 15 mobile hotspot and can’t get through for some reason. Full bars 5g and everything. I even ran a speed test and getting just under 400 mbs and still can’t connect to my hotspot. I tried on my brothers galaxy s23ultra and it went through without a problem. But for some reason I can’t connect on my iPhone. Any help or suggestions????
Was your PS5 on rest mode when you tried on your iPhone 15? There is definitely something on your iPhone 15 settings that might also be preventing it to connect. When you go to Settings on your iPhone - Go to Personal Hotspot and make sure Maximize Compatibility is on!
Try connecting your iPhone 15 to your psp using a usb c cable, that worked for me.
If you think the portal is heavy you need to work on them arm muscles lol

Yes, when you try to connect away from your house with the PS Portal, the PS5 (while in rest mode) turns on by itself. You could also just leave your PS5 on, but that would just use up way too much electricity at your house.

Is the PS5 on Rest Mode back home? What was the error message it gave you?
@@LeoImChewingGum yeah I left it on rest mode this morning too before heading to work. It says “something went wrong” then dismiss or try again
Make sure the connection is strong and whether or not your hotspot is fast enough. Make sure you go somewhere where your signal is good

For the life of me I cannot get mine to connect via my cellphone mobile hotspot. Do I need a dedicated mobile hotspot device instead? Could that be my issue? I’ve run my kids iPads and Tesla from my mobile hotspot from my cellphone all the time but my portal never connects.

@@PastorQII make sure to turn off Maximize Compatibility in your hotspot settings on your iPhone! That may help! Let me know if it does! Also make sure you have full LTE or 5G LTE cell phone service for best results!

I think it’s a great deal for what it’s worth! It’s been hard to get for sure, but every time they restock, they sell out. Some could be resellers. But I managed to get one for my brother recently after trying so many times!

I remember doing this with the first version of GTA v back in ps3 days using Android phones and tablets . Any Mobile hotspot or any WiFi back then as well.

Honestly, I'm def new to it. I bought a used PS4 back in the day and got burnt system just stopped working after a few hours of use and I never bought another. I did catch the target deal for PS5 and bought one recently and have been trying out the remote play. I'm trying to find a reason to justify buying the Portal, for now it's iPhone and iPad.
@spenceandretti5135 how do you like the Portal so far?? Try using it away from home on a friend’s WiFi or your own hotspot to see if it works. Try playing on your bed before going sleep to see if that’s something you’ll enjoy because it’s so relaxing!

I live in Canada and vacation in the Caribbean. I bring my PSPortal with me on vacation, and leave my Ps5 in Canada. I'm able to play using my portal with no issues.

My birthday was actually Tuesday but I got it a little early so that I can learn the thing still learning just like you are and I’m gonna try the hotspot to on my PS five portal remote player because it doesn’t work at my mom‘s sisters home Internet I was just gonna try that to see if I can get it to work and play so I can play my PS five somewhere

I’m honestly starting to think that the reason it lacks any other features is the reason it runs so smoothly. There’s nothing else taking up space or processing power from it. Just remote play and nothing more. Only thing I want is for them to patch up someway to log into public Wi-Fis requiring a log in!

For a 200 dollar portable ps5 what else would you have it do? Play the games for you?
sony is going backwards .... just revive the psp with hardware updates and a better system to collect games since physical copies are very exensive to make
Haha I agree! I would love an actual PSP 2 or PS Vita 2 (I still play my PS Vita regularly). No remote play and no outside factors limiting gameplay or frame rates. Physical games for both PSP and Vita have skyrocketed for selected titles, so a digital option would be nice too. I agree with what you’re saying, but for now, I’m still pleasantly surprised with what the PS Portal does, considering I was originally going in with a negative mindset.

Highly unlikely Sony would make another dedicated handheld because of how bad the Vita flopped. Also, even though PSP sold around 80 million consoles, probably 70 million of those were used for emulation and piracy.

@daltonwilliams2962 I know this is about a month old or older but, I am just seeing it. Another reason why the PS Vita flopped was the memory cards. They were and still are expensive. They should have allowed usage of all Memory cards. Not just theirs only. This hurt the Vita. I know Sony was trying to be greedy but their greed hurt the Vita. I hated the need for a new memory card. I know now you can mod it for different memory cards but I know nothing about modding like millions of others and I don't want to brick my Vita trying so the memory card expense hurt the Vita also. It they ever make another handheld hopefully they won't have it setup to use their SD cards only with an expensive price tag and an open door for scalpers.
You have to really think things all the way through during development especially the costs to the consumer. Not everybody is rich or have high paying jobs so you have to think a little bit about the poor folks with low income jobs also and high rent to pay. You have to make your product affordable for mostly everybody to get the sales. Not just the rich. $100.00 plus for a 64mg memory card is excessive. I know this is the scalpers prices. I don't even remember what Sony's price was. The scalpers took over.

It’s on 4G and even 5G depends on signal wise
@@VladTepesRomaniaPSN if it’s in 4G, it may not be fast enough to do the hotspot unfortunately. Sometimes when I’m my phone says 5G, it’s not even fast enough. Usually only when my phone says LTE do I get great service and can game uninterrupted. What city are you in?
@@LeoImChewingGumI’m in a town in England 🏴 Skelmersdale only recently they started rolling out 5G , home i get 5G a lot and in work it jumps between 4G and 5G

I get the frustration. And I completely understand. Unfortunately because it’s streaming through the internet, everyone’s experience with the PS Portal will be different due to internet speed and connection. And I know that some places in the US just can’t get good or fast enough internet because of where they’re located. It’s unfortunate.

Yeah I would say only purchase the portal if you have good internet otherwise it will be a frustrating experience trying to remote play ps5 games, I’m glad I have two handheld pcs and a switch for portable gaming

This thing looks lame. All sony have to do is make a new PSP, make the store backwards compatible with all PSP, Ps1, PS2, Ps3 and PS vita games from launch. Micro SD card support, Oled screen and have some decent triple A tittles from launch. They could charge anything for that and I have no doubt people would go crazy over it.

Good design but a huge miss for Sony. Can’t believe people are supporting this half baked remote play device when phones and tablets do it better in every way. I just feel like it’s another one of those PlayStation community issues where the fan boys are over hyping a Sony product just because it’s Sony. Truth be told if Microsoft and Nintendo did this these same Sony fans would be bashing it🤦
It sounds like it aint for you n thats cool but for some of us its perfect who already own a ps5 but dont have much time to play. Some of us have kids using tablets,the tv and cant always use phone because of calls n txts ect. This device is just what i needed. If i owned an xbox which i actually like as well and they had a device like this, id buy it!

@@LeoImChewingGum I tested multiple handhelds and my number one pick is Steam Deck Oled and 2nd is Nintendo Switch Oled. Both are very good but Deck is way more powerful and runs basically any game you want, even non steam games or emulation. The downside of the Steam deck is that you will love it too much and spend too much time with it 😃

Let me get this straight. This thing is 200 dollars and doesn't play games without wifi? Why in the world would you buy one of these. This has got to be the laziest product PlayStation has made. PlayStation no longer innovates or takes any chances. No offense to anyone that has bought this or is gonna buy this but its a total cash grab. Its usually laggy if you're on a different network too. I just dont get it. If you need to play games this bad because your tv is being used by someone else why not just buy a cheap monitor and put your ps5 in a different room. Why not just buy a steam deck ,legion go, or ally and actually be able to play games without relying on Internet. Our Internet infrastructure isnt good enough for this yet. I guarantee where i live using a mobile hotspot will not be good enough to run this thing unless i had great cell coverage which its usually pretty spotty unless im in a bigger city. I have tried remote play on my phone and its garbage. I really think PlayStation is going backwards and i used to be a huge fan. I have also heard 4 hours battery life! It should be way better battery life for what its doing. I have no desire for a product like this and sony is turning into money grubbing company. It will be successful tho because for some reason PlayStation fans gobble up whatever sony puts out. Ps5 has been out 3 years and exclusives have been garbage for the most part. All crap we have already seen. Whoever's idea this was is an idiot. Give us a PlayStation portable again. This was nothing but a lazy ,easy,cheap way to try and get back into the handheld market again. I wouldn't even consider it a handheld its a screen with a dualsense glued to it. Hey, I appreciate your opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I agree with your point that remote gaming or streaming video games can be hard for people that live in areas that have spotty internet or where the internet is just not the best. I know friends who live outside of NYC that have terrible internet service based on where they’re located. It sucks because there’s nothing that can be done in regards. The area they live in just has horrible internet. With that being said however, I think that those who do have decent internet are enjoying this very much! It’s much more comfortable to play this in bed, than having to buy another monitor if I can’t use my tv. Another small TV will still take up more room. It’s also not as portable as going from room to bathroom to basement to kitchen with my PS Portal. I like that convenience about it and also appreciate the connectivity in my personal experience. That being said, I would love for PlayStation to make an actual PSP 2 or Vita 2. Would love to be able to play new handheld games that don’t require any kind of internet, like my Switch. But for now, I’ll take this PS Portal for what it is and continue to enjoy it for what I use it for!
Bro, here’s the thing this is designed for a certain type of person with a certain type of need. Everyone is hopping on it and wanting it to be something that it’s not advertised as or not trying to be it’s a remote play controller or basically just a backbone with the screen, the Backbone is $100 and a decent tablet would be another hundred and that’s where that price makes sense if it’s not for you that’s cool but no need to try to bash the creator or the device because it’s not something that was designed to do what it is you want it to do it is what it is and what it is

This technology is not worth 9/10 because the connection will fail 100% of the time. It's the most frustrating thing to happen to console gaming. You would think that Sony would have this figured out by now.
I see where you’re coming from. Believe me, I get the frustration. Considering how frustrated I am that this is not just a PlayStation handheld system, I’m still pleasantly surprised how well this thing works for me. Different wifi speeds and internet connections can affect each gamer’s personal experience with it unfortunately.
I agree. They designed this for one reason alone and it doesn't do that very well. I've been using mine at home with gig Ethernet. While it stays connected most of the time, fast paced shooters are pretty much unplayable due to lag issues.
I'll put it like this. Also, not trolling this is a legit comment. This device is trash. With where tech is today if you had a smart phone you could play steam, playstation, and Xbox on the go through their cloud services or remote services with decent wifi or phone data services. You also have emulation capability with a smart phone.
We also now live in a world where PC Handhelds EXIST making something like this playstation device completely obsolete and a waste of money.
To be honest I'm surprised Sony is still stuck in the age of hardware and not transferring their full attention to the age of software, cloud services and subscription based products. They would make more money selling playstation plus premium plans and have people connect to their cloud service more flawlessly in any capable handheld or phone than they ever would making new hardware (ps5, ps6, psp2). I wouldn't mind them continue working on new controllers like the dual sense to make things play better than ever or their psvr2 controllers, but hardware aside from controllers is pointless and a waste of money with PC users on the rise. Even Microsoft is paying attention to this, Nintendo is hard head to this but will eventually fold. Give it 5 or 10 more years. PC will be in everyone's hold desktop or handheld and everyone else will be an app.

I've owned a Portal for a week and a half now, and never had the connection fail on me, whether I'm at my office away from home, or on my home network. 100% of the time is an enormous stretch.

It doesn’t have to be on the same network or internet. Both ends just have to be connected to the internet. That is all. That’s why the Backbone works the way it does as well.
I have been using remote play on my iPad and it works pretty well. I am excited to try this!
