- The San Antonio Spurs landed Harrison Barnes via 3 team trade with the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings. Barnes will slot in perfect for the Spurs alongside Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul and give the Spurs another vet to develop the young guys. Spurs Trade For Lauri Markkanen has been in the news for awhile and Spurs News has them still potentially targeting him.

Just coming off a 22 win year I think this year Pop wants to introduce the young guys to winning basketball.. CP3 and HB can teach them how to prepare, how to play within their role and HOW TO FEED THE BIG FELLA.. I think this year Pop will establish that culture within this group, See what they can get out of next years draft and start making “championship type” moves in Wemby year 4 or 5 with him, Castle and “Atl 25’ pick” as the core

Markkanen is exactly what we need. A stretch 4 that can score and rebound. We need to make it happen. Give up 4 Picks + Keldon & Tre Jones. I think it's worth it.

I think Lauri could be #2 on a champ team. In the way that Murray is for the Nuggest. Lauri is clutch, and more importantly plays the game the right way and wouldn't leave SA just for more money like PG ditched the Clippers.

I like Lauri for the Spurs. You now have an added threat and option on the 3 point range especially if the game is on the line and you need to make a 3. So it adds more option to try and shoot. CP3 is also a shooter let's not forget that Wemby definitely can also shoot and then you have Vassel and probably Barnes so that's more option. Second, on the defensive end Laurie can make other teams think twice as he is also a 7 footer and with the help of coaching staff he may improve more on his defense

The thing with Lauri Markkanen is that it wont mean to be a championship level team and it will cost a big sacrifice on the future of the team. Even if it did though, making this move would mean being great for a short period of time and then having a poor 3/4 years period at the very least. The talent Wemby has is that high that, ever since the team starts contending, it has to be doing so every single year until he retires (thats probably why Brian Wright is so interested in very far future picks to get players similar to what Kawhi was to Duncan). The rebuild is going great, which is easy with a player like Victor, but the decision of when they are prepared to start contending should not be made by the front office via a blockbuster trade but instead by the young core by developing to a stage where they are able to contend without outside help. The young core right now has an amazing talent, and it is only getting better with the 2025 and 2026 draft. Patience is the key, once the team gets to a point where it can be contending by itself, trades can be made for players who fit better with wemby and build a dynasty capable of winning multiple chips.

Vassell is one of the best at his position. And he's still very young. He doesn't get the credit cuz he plays on a losing team but boy is a walking bucket. Trade a lot of those picks for Lauri... I mean what is the process? Stack lottery picks until 2045? That would imply that you're losing every year. This type of move could take us out of that.. because I don't know about you guys who are Spurs fans I have simply LOVED watching the playoffs without us being there past few years..
Cp3 can unlock Markkanen similar to how Conley did. He is the perfect complimentary piece for Wemby and a team player (fits the spurs mold).

If they get lauri, the spurs arent necessarily contending this year, but next year, and however many after? Thats another story. This season would be for getting experience and a feel for each others games. I think if the spurs make a big move for a guy like markannen they might be contending sooner than people think
With the way the cba is going. How are the spurs going to get a surefire star unless they make a bold trade. I don’t think us or wemby will have the patience to see how all these lottery picks turn out down the line. You got a generational talent I think you go for it now. I don’t know if markkanen makes them a championship contender but it gets them much closer

If you do make the lauri trade, you’d better know for sure he is that 2 option because his extension is gonna be lots of cash. You can’t trade that much draft capital but I guess if you are making the trade you aren’t going to invest in young prospects

Lauri must not be that good, because I had never heard of him before.
Well he's not one of those guy's who are very out there and a media heavy dude. He's Finnish so they're usually pretty reserved culturally. Markkanen is one of those hidden gems who are perfect as a 2nd or 3rd option scorer; who also isn't a ball hog! He's very efficient from getting a pass but can defo also throw the ball down when needed! With his background of European bball before American college makes him perfect for team oriented play styles which is totally Gregg Popovich's flavour! The guy's been cursed with bouncing around in rebuild teams so would love him to finally be in a playoff contending team!

Spurs can win with what they have, and by doing so they’ll strengthen the team. Don’t sacrifice what’s being built. I like Markkanen but not for everything
