    Basia, I'm SOOO happy you love your mitre vise! It really is an invaluable tool. I've been singing it on the mountain for years. I am so surprised how many jewelers don't or didn't know about this tool, and I'm glad you are singing about it too! This is an excellent list, thank you for sharing. 🌺 🌺 🌺

    for a small workshop. . have you considered a magnetic pin tumbler. .they have many sizes with speed control. . one has changed my workflow immensely. .the burnish effect on silver saves the small details over bristle polishing.

    Is it me or does the mitre jig look like a cute little robot?! As you know I make and resell costume jewellery so my go-tos are my pliers (many types), loupe, jump ring opener (that you wear like a ring) and my strong magnet for quick checking if something is silver/gold or not 💕♻️

    Heat shield to protect elements from melting and/or solder from flowing where I don’t want it to flow anymore is a staple. The clay paste used as a third arm has some similar properties to this and I like to use it for some things, But I found that vigor heat shield as a more versatile and budget friendly ‘protector”. I first learned about it from a British jewelry show where a lady used it to protect a pearl from heat on a soldering job. Also can’t live without a second torch in the studio - both when fuel runs out of one…I could just grab the second…and for when I need to use 2 torches (I do this at times when I want more control: putting metal on a tripod over wire mesh …heat with one torch from the bottom…adjusting for how close it is to the metal and using the second torch to direct flame from above. It sounds scary but it’s actually quite fun and looks like a witchy magic spell cast session.

    Love this feature!! Thanks Basia! Our staple tools have got to be:
    Jewellers Saw
    Tweezers
    Flexshaft!

      My pleasure! Oh yes, jeweller's saw and a flexshaft are the main ones I wouldn't be able to live without or do any work!

    Thank you for sharing these tools (and links)! When you're showing the Dedeco polishing wheels, around the 2:00 minute mark, the green wheel on the far right seems to be a single, thicker wheel than the other ones with multiple, thinner wheels. Am I right? And, if so, did you also get that one from Pepetools? Seems like a thicker wheel would be so useful and not get damaged as quickly!
    Thanks again!

    Hello! I'm trying to find the double sided tape you showed in the video. I have access to lots of tapes, but I'm thinking it may be labeled differently here in the states.

    Have you used any of the cheaper rotary discs?

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  9 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure what you have in mind, do you mean the brand? The radial bristle disc attachments come in various prices and brands, 3M, Dedeco Sunburst and I even purchased them cheap in the past (no brand). Although the latter ones didn't last long and got destroyed quickly, so that's when I realized that cheap things aren't actually cheap if you pay twice

    • @paullacaze7405
      @paullacaze7405 9 месяцев назад

      @@TheArtOfMetalsmithing I ordered some of the cheap ones and they all appear to be identical even the different colors

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@paullacaze7405 I think that you'll be able to tell with time if they last as long as the other ones. Hopefully they will! I don't think all of them are of poor quality, because it would be best not to have to purchase those more expensive ones 😁

    Hey! I've just started silversmithing with lost wax rings. I've looked everywhere, but can't find the information I'm looking for so if you could help that would be great!
    When you make a design, how do you get multiple sizes of the same master? Do you simply have to make a master for every size, or is there an easier way?

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
