Molly's body language throughout Dutch's "potency" talk is Golden. First, she tries to block his view of Mary Beth, then she plays with her hair and sways her hips to try to get his attention. He's looking at Mary Beth when Molly says "I guess it is quite... pretty", rationalizing to herself how he's eyeballing the other woman. Then at 3:24 she realizes the whole speech is just a douchey metaphor to justify him boning other women (e.g. Mary Beth), rather than being satisfied with finding one (Molly), and you can see her deflate.
Crazy how much thought and work went into this for such an easily missed conversation that directly led to her eventual breakdown.

You also see Mary-Beth and Molly mirroring each other's body language throughout the interaction- making them both seem as mere objects of Dutch's affection, and ultimately, his perverse need to have freedom in all realms of his life. I think it's noteworthy that Molly brings up Dutch's habit of shedding women for their age, which is also replicated in the two mirroring each other as they seem like cheap copies that he moves through nonchalantly. Rockstar is amazing at creating such life-like depictions of human interaction. It's truly incredible.

Self emancipation I admit does sound in theory to have the capacity to make men happy, but at what point is that contentment found? Miller suppose by endlessly searching one can find peace; it was this line of thought however that led Dutch astray by trying to gain more and more he ultimately lost more and more and causing the deaths of several gang members. Johns ranch ultimately only cost him 1,500 dollars the score in valentine supplied the gang with 7,500 dollars of Dutch truly cared for freedom he would have simply took the money and stopped.

For those that didn’t catch it, look at the body languages of the girls during the scene where Dutch reads the passage. Molly had no idea what the passage was suggesting about fidelity, but Mary-Beth did(probably because she’s the one in camp who spends most of her time reading). People say Mary-Beth was naive; I think she knew, was creeped out, and tried her best to play stupid to avoid the whole thing.

I'm still in awe of how seamless they did all of these little details, as well. Usually it's not hard to pick out the generic, canned animation cycles by a few hours into a game, but the fluidity of everything in rdr2 is insane for how open-ended everything is.
At 3:04 when Dutch is finished speaking, you can see that Mary-beth was going to answer him until Molly quickly interrupted her.

I'm pretty certain that all these camp interactions are actually mo-capped, so that's where all the little details are coming from.
I feel so bad for Molly for having been bewitched by Dutch just to be totally neglected by him. Dutch didn't even try to think of her feelings or try to maintain their relationship as far as I'm concerned. It was just one of the ways how Dutch was the cause of his own undoing.

Ironically, John seems to have changed his view on Dutch in RDR1 since he said that he used to be a good man once until he went crazy.
I'm never quite sure what to think of the becoming who he really is because arthur and hosea knew Dutch for more than 20 years and for that entire time he was good dutch who had morals and such and a code so I personally think he unravels and turns crazy not become who he really is
As cool as this throughline is, I rebuke it 100%.

A personality is a set of enduring traits that influence our behaviour in many different situations. Yes our situations can change and therefore our "priorities", but based on your personality you are going to be relatively stable when dealing with these things. If you're narcissistic, like in Dutch's case, then you can see the pattern of how his traits have endured and exist between RDR 2 and RDR. Based on this, we can argue that we all have our "true" selves, from these traits.

I never noticed in the scene where Dutch reads to Molly and Mary-Beth, how Molly is clearly trying to get him to pay more attention to her- blocking Mary-Beth's path when they initially walk over, and then being the first to respond and leaning in closer to Dutch when he finishes reading. But all the while, Dutch keeps looking over at Mary-Beth.
I also have to wonder what Mary-Beth thinks of Evelyn Miller, being a reader herself.

Getting her thoughts on dutch material would be like asking a twilight books fan girl about her thoughts on Animal Farm or 1984 lol. Dutch is more into liberty and libertarian sounding books or anarchism and lawlessness. Lenny sees thru it and calls Evelyn Miller trash to dutchs face as an all style no substance writer since Lenny is a reader too. Jack is more similar to MaryBeth since he likes reading stories too but not romance, fantasy and wild west stories. I wish Mary Beth and epilogue Jack had one scene where they discussed reading together. they are the only two characters that actually defend escapism in reading stories while everyone else like John Abigail Arthur and even Kieran when he was talkin to MaryBeth keeps criticizing it as being "lost in ur own head with fantasies" since their so much products of their practical outdoorsy lifestyles

Richard Veres Think of it like him seeing the women in his life like a car. Once one gets too old and a new model comes out, he scraps the old one and gets a newer one. Mary Beth is like 22 whereas Molly is likely close to or in her 30’s.

I always wondered why Molly pointed at Mary-Beth and said "I ain't her!" When she was confronting Dutch at the ending of Chapter 5, now that I see this I understand why and it's actually sad, I never knew that Dutch hit on Mary-Beth. I always felt bad for Molly, because no one ever gave her attention and she died for no reason.
Molly had one of the saddest stories in RDR2, she leaves her family for Dutch, eventually Dutch stops paying attention on her and is hitting on mary-beth, feeling betrayed she goes to St. Denis to just get punch drunk and forget about it all. Comes back claiming she snitched on em (I don't get why tho, She knew what would happen) gets shot and Dutch has the equivalent reaction to a "meh"
