I find it rather hilarious that Skyrim - SKYRIM - is one of the most technically solid and accomplished ports of remastered PS360 games to Switch. Given Bethesda's history, you would think Skyrim would be the rough one, the low point. But instead it's one of the strongest examples of this kind of thing.
Aside from Wolfenstein Youngblood not being on a cart in the physical version, Bethesda's support has been surprisingly strong on the Switch, porting current gen games and them not looking too bad either

And since I own a PS4 and a more than capable enough PC, I wasn't as pleased with the Switch Wolf 2 since my main desire was to play it portably. I never really liked AC3 that much anyways, I'd much rather have the Ezio trilogy or AC 4: Black Flag to play on the go.
I was really looking forward to this port and wanted to pick it up as a fan of the series but when I was watching pre-release coverage I kept getting distracted by how terrible the audio sounds. I dusted off my old OLED Vita last month and started playing around with the homebrew mods. Liberation now runs at higher framerate and a native native 544p (relative to a vanilla 384p) when the Vita is overclocked. It looks great relative to the muddy slideshow it once was upon release (with the only caveat being a 1/4 off battery time).
@@MrJoemolin o3o You can also OverClock the Switch to improve resolution and framerate, in fact the last firmware update made it super easy to do for hackers as it's now a main feature. =b if you're going to compare games, you compare how the game runs without system mods.
@@MrJoemolin So the only way to have fun with this game on the Vita is to overclock it, losing tons of battery life and risking frying my console, tnx for telling
There is zero chance of ‘frying’ your console. It merely boosts it up to a clockspeed that Sony opened up to devs later on in the Vita’s lifecycle (akin to what Nintendo did on the Switch).
Idk, I think the updating lighting looks great on PS$, but it makes the characters look a lot worse. I feel the original lighting was better suiting for the character models

I hate the fact that game developers now have to rely on insipid patches in order to alleviate their unpolished messes. Minor glitches, okay, I understand. Computers aren't perfect, and no game is infallible. But depth of field issues, low resolution textures and NPCs without any bones? I think game developers need to at least take 6 months after finishing a game to make sure most glitches like these don't happen.
I just can't understand people who think the old lightning was better - it certainly looks better in some cutscenes because Ubi didn't bother to actually adjust it once they changed it but during gameplay there really isn't any comparison - the new lightning looks vibrant and colorful, more akin to Black Flag, and in the old one everything is gray and washed out
@@whodatninja439 Call me cynical but after the last 12 years of Nintendo consoles if it's not "made" for the console it probably won't be very good. And that goes for all of the portable games as well.
I think that keeping the game at 900p could have helped bring over some of the Remaster's visual features. I don't see the point of 1080p (when most people don't even ask for it) at the cost of playable framerates.
Companies who don't really know and care about their product mindset = higher resolution /fidelity > stable framerate and overall experience. 4 years and this disease only grow larger

This was an odd one for me. Normally, I'd go for the Xbox One X version. It was included in the season pass for AC Odyssey and ran in 4k with HDR. On the other hand, I've been saying for over two years that AC 3 should come to the Switch. I chose the Switch version to support more AAA ports on the system, and I said I'd buy it if they made it. I'm a man of my word, so I got the Switch version. As much as I'd like to be amazing at the sharpness of 4k, I still find myself amazed that a game this epic looks so good on a handheld.
Yep ubisoft suck they didn't put much effort in the switch port like look at sniper elite 2 on switch it looks much better than the wii u version lol ubisoft are lazy fucks

they're already here, I mean they ignored the bugs the muffed sound effects the weird looking hair and bright eyes the low framerate the lack of dynamic lighting, but point out the the skins looks better on the switch which makes it the better looking version 😂
Unless you can't get the original =b I personally always get 3rd party on PC, so i don't care about switch ports. With that said, I also understand that not everyone who has a switch also has a PS4 or Gaming PC. If the Switch version is the only version you can get, you're not going feel the need to go back to the better versions.
What's wrong with people comparing switch to PS4? it's a mobile device, after all, actually outputting graphics similar to PS3 is still a miracle. look at your console size and your switch then complain why your switch can't output as much power as PS4 which draws 400w of electric power with PC case size.
I agree with almost everything said here. I still like the original look over the remastered look, and the novelty og AC3 on the go is enough for me to love this version! It should be noted that i have only played this one on Wii U before this, and even there I loved the game. Original PC release is the way to go for perfection imo, but the switch version is the most enjoyable for me. :)
The best thing about the remaster was the revamped wilderness. Judging by the looks of it they couldn't add the new models to the Switch version because it's more demanding due to the geometry. That's not very nice.
Well that and the fact that the much smaller cart/card size had no room for it. Am I saying if a 32 or 64 gb version was both available and cheap this would be "more HD" maybe,it's hard to tell exactly how many of these issues are simply because the switch can't completely handle it and how many cutbacks had to be made just to make it work. hopefully they do a follow-up in a month or a few weeks or something after a few patches. It's very possible at least improve if not completely remove most of the problems. Probably.
I gotta be honest, I have the ps4 version and I pretty much hate the new lighting. I'd much prefer the old version with updated textures and geometry running at 4k. Not interested in buying it again for the Switch though. The only reason I have it for the PS4 is because it came with Odyssey when I bought it on sale.
Yea, switch is powerful than last gen console. But, you have to understand switch hardware doesn't use the same power supply to run the hardware.. It's a mobile device with 🔋..
Not all hardware needs the same amount of power to be efficient. As gaming laptops are the perfect example. This isn’t a power issue it’s a developer issue. Seriously the game doesn’t even perform well on an Xbox one X

It's always a challenge trying to decide if getting the Switch version of a game is the best idea. If it's on multiple systems, it's pretty much a guarantee that the Switch version is going to be inferior. And yet it's still just as expensive, if not more expensive. And even then, you might end up having to download part of the game because it doesn't all fit on the card, which means worrying about running out of data storage space on your system. Yeah, it's annoying having to install games onto the hard drive on a PS4, but you can always reinstall the game from the disc again later. If extra game code for a Switch game is no longer available online at some point in the future, you're just out of luck. Though to be fair, many modern games are basically broken at launch anyway, so if you can't download the necessary patches for them, you're pretty much screwed either way. This is the nature of gaming in the modern era. But I digress. Literally the only reason a person should ever get the Switch version of a game is if they either have great difficulty finding opportunities to sit in front of the TV and play, or if you spend a lot of time waiting at various places away from home where a laptop would not be a viable option. Even if a laptop is technically viable in a given situation, they still tend to be less convenient. You need a fairly wide, flat surface to set the laptop on, wake your laptop up, launch your game, and get out your controller, possibly needing to connect it. With the Switch, you take the Switch out, wake it up, and start playing. No flat surface required. As for the former situation, some people just don't get to have a TV to themselves very often or they simply need to be able to move from room to room, which is not something most consoles excel at. For me personally, if a new game comes out on the Switch and some other system and the prices are the same, I usually try to figure out how well the Switch version runs. I find graphical downgrades acceptable, but if the framerate takes a hit or there is some other noticeable trade-off, I'll usually go with the beefier console version. I made an exception for Trials Rising just because it feels like such a portable friendly game. The lower framerate does bother me at times though. For other games, like Mega Man 11, getting the Switch version was a no brainer, since it wasn't exactly a graphics intensive title. Why not get the version I can play anywhere? This also applies to other games that aren't going to push the hardware. But then price usually becomes an issue because you can often find insane discounts on those kinds of games on PC, but not on Switch. I did get the Capcom Beat-em-up Bundle cheaper on Switch than on PC though, so it can happen. I just find myself wishing that I could somehow link my Steam account with my Switch so that any games that I own on Steam could be played on my Switch for free. I'd say that's just a pipe dream, but Valve did team up with Sony at one point. I don't remember how it worked, but Steam was on PS3 in some fashion and it allowed owners of Portal 2 on Steam to play the PS3 version without buying an extra copy. Side thought: how cool would it be if players were given the option of purchasing a digital version of a game they already own for a different system for a small fee? I'd be down with that. I think it's something that publishers ought to consider. They will definitely make more money getting me to pay full price for two copies of the same game on different platforms, but the likelihood that I'm going to buy a game twice, just to have it on another platform, is slim. So they could at least make a few extra bucks on people who can't decide if they prefer portability or graphics. Then again, I almost never play the Switch away from home. But I love knowing that I could if I wanted to. And I also simply enjoy being able to play the system in any room of my house. Super Mario Maker 2 might be the perfect game for that sort of "play anywhere" style. As for whether someone should buy a Switch in the first place, it's going to come down to how much you want that portability and how much you like the exclusives. I bought the Switch just to play Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. No regrets.
I am really enjoying playing this in portable mode but I would love to see some good patches come along. The sound is truly awful at times and the crackling during loading makes it seem so unpolished.
OpTiOn SeVeN It’s extremely compressed and the crackling audio is really annoying. It happens with headphones as well, not just through the Switch speakers. They even mention problems with audio it in this very video as one of the most disappointing issues. Still a great game though!
David Artrip hmmm idk man I play with headphones and on the go all the time and I don’t get any crackling or anything noticeable! The audio may be a tad compressed if you’re really looking for it but at least on my Switch I don’t get anything noticeable at all.
Assassin's Creed III is my favorite AC game despite many not liking the game. I own the game on the XB360, PS3 and Wii U but I'm willing to give it another play on the Switch. I am curious how long Ubisoft had taken to create the Switch version?
The problem with improving the light and shadows on what was originally an xbox 360 era title is that the faces which looked fine when evenly lit with basic lighting, now look like horrifying clay monstrosities. See 4:02 and 4:12 the left is ungodly, at 4:21 desmond on the left side doesn't look like some abomination this time but he does look like clay, 4:35 his face on the left wouldn't look so out of place in morrowind but assassin's creed isn't a fantasy title it doesn't need elves lmao. 4:54 the detail in his face is gone and his skin is ghostly white. To be clear I'm not a superfan of any one system in particular and I recognize that the PS4 version is the much more technically impressive version, but I'd rather play the original on steam or the alleged ""remaster"" on switch, than the actually remastered remaster.
Ubisoft did swoop in with a big patch on consoles and pc to fix faces and other graphical issues about a week ago. I don’t know if they anything for switch though, but hey they might
As I play in portable mode only I think the ports audio definitely needs work, but playing this game on the go is amazing, never thought I’d experience a game like this on a portable!! If you play portable only I definitely recommend it, just my opinion though.
Nintendo NEEDS to release the rumored Switch Pro. 'cause one of the big reasons why these games that gets ported to the Switch are scaled back so much in terms of effects and performance, is that Nvidia Tegra X1 GPU and including the CPU at the current clock speeds, just ain't cutting it.
@@Radek494 San Andreas might be possible on the Switch given the current specs, but a graphically intense game such as GTA V currently on the Switch, R* will pretty much have to make it look like Minecraft to get it to run well. Keeping the "remastered" part seems like a really poor decision. They should have just called it the "switch edition". And people wonder why people go and get false expectations, geez.
@Ioannis Stf Eh, I have it on the One X cause I couldn't wait for the Switch version and the lighting ruins the cutscenes. Even in game everything looks washed out. The game is TECHNICALLY better on PS4/Pro and One X, but AESTHETICALLY it looks bad.
I have a feeling it might have been an issue with the old console code made for the PowerPC CPUs in the last-gen consoles not playing nice with the Switch, so it wasn't a matter of resolution holding back performance. If a CPU/engine bottleneck is going to keep you at a given framerate regardless of resolution, mine as well crank it up.
@@Robert-nl3fd - if they really cranked up the resolution, sure, but we're talking HD and below, if the GPU waiting on the CPU is the issue, then lowering the resolution isn't going to help much.

Tegra X2 was in development when Switch was also in development. I know what you say "they could just waited" not only that would delay everything: the OS, the games and more but what if Nvidia needed more time with X2 what then? Thats why consoles are developed with stuff you have right now, not with stuff that are there just in theory

Yeah, I recently got a Switch (mainly for Exclusives, have Smash and SMO), and I love first-party Nintendo games, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't more than a little disappointed that they decided to go for a "hybrid" mobile system. I wish Nintendo would blow us away with the next "Nintendo 64" caliber home system, maybe something powerful enough to enable really immersive VR experiences etc. Release a new model of the Switch as their mobile system while creating a really powerful system for core/hardcore gamers. In reality though, this is highly unlikely to happen, the Switch was their attempt to combine their historically successful handheld and their recently flagging console markets, so given that the hardware has sold so well, I don't see them going back to separate markets once the 3DS finally fizzles out.

@@lemonke4180 Exactly. It looks really great now on PC.
Switch version looks really dull in a lot of the scenes like this 4:23 although here 4:45 for example PS4 lighting looks way too bright so it seems to be a mixed bag.

Really??? Look at 10:41, this is what you're going to be looking at most of the game.
@@LiteralCringe oh I am aware. But I was referring more to Bethesda Game Studios, the devs behind Elder Scrolls and Fallout specifically, not Bethesda Softworks as a whole. Obviously Doom, Wolf2, WolfYB, and Doom Eternal are/look like excellent conversions with real effort. But those are built on the much more technically sound and advanced idTech foundation.
@@Nuvendil Doom Eternal is coming to Switch? Well thank God... That means it should look and play good on PS4 like DOOM 2016, have fun with the shody Switch Version of that 😂
@@MrRhysReviews I may or may not buy the Switch version. Not sure. I enjoyed Doom on Switch as it was a fun game to play through in portable. Yes, it was smoother and prettier on my PS4 but I enjoyed having something like that on the go.
But then Wolf 2 is a far better experience docked and in portable was a bit too fuzzy at times. And since I own a PS4 and a more than capable enough PC, I wasn't as pleased with the Switch Wolf 2 since my main desire was to play it portably. So I'll be watching Doom Eternal to see how it comes out. If it is a game far superior in dock vs portable, I may skip it since I have other options for playing on the tv/monitor.
@@Nuvendil Yeah since I own both there is litteraly NO reason for me to buy a Switch copy over a PS4 copy (portable or not, I'd rather spend my money on the better experience, also Switch versions are like $10 more for a worse experience so yeah pass) I'd say if people can get used to the lower FPS of DOOM 2016 on Switch then yeah no problem but considering I just recently played through it again and of course RAGE 2 which just launched and runs in 30 FPS (Base PS4) it definitely worsens the experience to a point of being unplayable to me (also with PS5 no doubt next year the Switch is just screwed now, I see it becoming like the Wii U but slightly better and not as neglected by third partys... Though Switch only players are in for a rude awakening in the near future)
I was sold on the switch version despite the issues until I heard the audio. I can't believe they'd be okay with that quality.
I have the switch version and the audio isn’t bad at all. You’re nitpicking 😂 take it from someone who owns it... it’s literally fine.

@@James-xs9mn Yeah it's just like the Dark Souls Remastered port, it's pretty much fine aside from the audio which is disappointing. I know it's mostly done to save space so devs can save money on a smaller cart for physical releases, but they could release a free audio patch dlc so the people who don't mind the extra space can have good quality audio, I mean most 360 games had good audio and had to fit on a 4-9gb dvd, so I don't see why Switch games get shafted by certain ports. I never really liked AC3 that much anyways, I'd much rather have the Ezio trilogy or AC 4: Black Flag to play on the go.
@@James-xs9mn we're in the majority of people who are willing to sacrifice audio for fps and graphics
I was really looking forward to this port and wanted to pick it up as a fan of the series but when I was watching pre-release coverage I kept getting distracted by how terrible the audio sounds. Honestly it's very distracting and greatly impacts the enjoyment of the game. Probably not gonna pick it up unless it gets patched
Would’ve been cool to compare the Switch version of Liberation to the Vita version. Still great video!

So the only way to have fun with this game on the Vita is to overclock it, losing tons of battery life and risking frying my console, tnx for telling
There is zero chance of ‘frying’ your console. It merely boosts it up to a clockspeed that Sony opened up to devs later on in the Vita’s lifecycle (akin to what Nintendo did on the Switch).
And why are you getting defensive over a dead platform such as the Vita, this is a PSA not a sadsack argument.
Idk, I think the updating lighting looks great on PS$, but it makes the characters look a lot worse. I feel the original lighting was better suiting for the character models
11:26 realy Ub? Unity 2.0? Uncapped framerate in a open world game is so much fun, just ask GTA 4
I'm amazed at how Ubisoft managed to screw up the Switch version this badly.

The latest patch fixed the shaders, not to mention the switch version doesn't have HDR.

I’m suprised at how well it runs! Been addicted to it. The audio isn’t nearly as bad as they make it out to be in the video.
Agreed.
I just can't understand people who think the old lightning was better - it certainly looks better in some cutscenes because Ubi didn't bother to actually adjust it once they changed it but during gameplay there really isn't any comparison - the new lightning looks vibrant and colorful, more akin to Black Flag, and in the old one everything is gray and washed out
The new lighting sucks. It made the characters look more rubbery. It ruined the art style of the original.

Mobile gaming is a term more used for phones or tablets that also need to run things in the back besides gaming.

Same case as Dark Souls Remastered on Switch - port of last gen version

Switch has much better graphical and memory capabilities than last gen yet performance and visuals don't see an improvement? Baffling how even Liberations isn't a great port. But again it's Ubisoft, half assed ports are their norm.
There's literally no game that looks significantly better on the switch than the PS3 so your point is moot.

Clamshell686 no it doesn’t
2 takaways from this, Nintendo should have made the Switch more powerful and Ubisoft still make unpolished games, All is well in the world.
No regrets.
I'm actually glad you guys hard code ads into the editing. Good to see you guys getting extra funding.
I am really enjoying playing this in portable mode but I would love to see some good patches come along. The sound is truly awful at times and the crackling during loading makes it seem so unpolished.

May i ask why? From what they said, the switch has better image quality than the Wii U version.
Assassin's Creed III is my favorite AC game despite many not liking the game. I own the game on the XB360, PS3 and Wii U but I'm willing to give it another play on the Switch. I am curious how long Ubisoft had taken to create the Switch version?
Why do you keep playing the inferior versions, lmao. Go PC or X1X/PS4 Pro.
It was cool to have a comparison with the Xbox 360 original version too...
So you guys had no problems with dialogue when docked? It’s so low you can’t hear it in some places for me like that first Franklin cutscene.
Ubisoft did swoop in with a big patch on consoles and pc to fix faces and other graphical issues about a week ago. I don’t know if they anything for switch though, but hey they might

They couldn't have used the x2 chip and get it in time for launch
What bother me the most about the switch is the fact its heavily underclocked even in docked mode
Eh, the X2 isn't really a massive leap in performance over the X1. They're both pretty anemic when compared to desktop hardware. In terms of power efficiency it would probably help a lot though.

Maybe do a revisit with the 1.02 patch?
As always, great video!
I will buy this, if it gets patched. Wouldnt mind a performance mode.
MaxEagleson so has it been patched? 1 month later
which game looks worse? Black ops 3 on last gen or assassins creed 3 on the Switch?
Ass creed 3 on switch
When I first started this game on switch there was a quite big download required what was it for?
8:55 Technically that’s not a game-breaking glitch. I think that that means a glitch that makes it impossible to complete the game on that save file.
Nice comparison. Waited for this!
And people wanted Black Flag instead... I wanted too, but after seeing this...
We need a more powerful nintendo switch.
To PS4: a remaster
To Switch: a port
Nintendo - Am I a joke to you ubisoft?
doesnt 'remaster' imply it was mastered? pretty sure its still in alpha xD
Ubisoft: make better hardware and we won’t laugh
Switch is a joke to every developer making graphically impressive titles.

Oh yea how could I forget the extra extremely impressive graphical powerhouse that is Hollow Knight LOL! ;)
This game is max 12GB on the eshop? I have a feeling that might be causes the issues trying to compress it all.
I really wonder why because that might be the reason for some of these issues. I understand its Switch but this is a game i wouldnt mind a additional download for when buying cartridge or higher GB from the eshop with these issues solved.
Much as i love the switch. It would be cool if their next big system is more performance focused instead of portable (or both? somehow?)
GPD WIN 2 runs AC3 just fine, same as so many other games, which is a great alternative portable gaming solution. I haven't touch my Switch for half year already unless I'm playing Zelda lol
atleast it doesnt have the ridiculously bright lighting like the consoles
