This was a fantastic video, great work! My only complaint is that the Balanced Mode was glossed over. While the point was made that Performance Pro Mode is better the Balanced... I don't really feel that informed regarding WHY it's better, so it's difficult for me to make the call on switching modes based on a blanket recommendation.
Yeah couldn’t agree more. Full path tracing is absolutely amazing if you have the hardware to run it with good frame rate but it’s no substitute for great art and craftsmanship from the studio. And playing at 30 Hz sucks. I wish more studios would focus on crafting games with perfect 60 hz and beyond rather than trying to just melt the hardware.
RT is the natural evolution of gaming graphics. It's not some gimmick just to tank your performance. In a few years it will become the standard lighting and since technology will be a lot better, it won't be that taxing. Same thing happened with lightmaps, then everyone took it for granted. Now the fact that Horizon is so beautiful is a testament to the fantastic artists at Guerilla Games and the huge amount of work they put into simulating realistic lighting. But it's nowhere near what Path Tracing can achieve. The benefits are that it will free up a lot of the extra work that artists are doing now to simulate lighting and at the same time bring a lot better visuals. So in truth, everybody needs RT really.
Really gives me a lot of confidence when it comes to Guerrillas future titles and Death Stranding 2 in terms of image quality I was so stunned when I fired up my Pro to check this game out and how well it held up against the PC version maxed out
Guerrillas upscaling technique should be the default for PS5 Pro instead of PSSR. It produces the best image quality from a Pro Patch with the least amount of issues (at least in this one title).
It's not the engine, it's the devs. It took them months of optimising for one game… Forbidden West was unplayable in Performance Mode when it released (shimmering everywhere) and they fixed it, patch after patch.
I think the base resolution of the horizon is already quite high i think so around 1440p so it helps a lot. A lot of pssr complaints are from games who use low resolutions like 1008p or even lower than that so the problem becomes exaggerated. We don't know how this technique will run on lower resolutions.
It looks insane. Whoever worked on the upscaler needs to submit an academic paper on it. It's trouncing FSR & XESS, and easily rivals DLSS, a hardware solution that's half a decade mature.

At first (when PS5 Pro was first shown off), I was wondering why Guerrilla just used their own software-based upscaler instead of PSSR. Now, after seeing PSSR in action, I completely get it. There is not a single game with PSSR right now with image quality this good.

The reason the performance mode and resolution mode almost look identical it's because the performance mode skills from 1944P to 2160p so not much of a difference from true 4K at 30 FPS
I understand devs who don't want to allow users to completely turn off all motion blur. I imagine VFX artists screaming at a meeting that it's very important, and that they should respect their creative intent 😂
Is it true that HFR lowers the image quality of games even if ure playing on a Resolution mode ? For Example RE 4. Does the Resolution mode + RT (best image quality) have a lower image quality when HFR is activated ?
The Horizon games give me hope for the Pro. I'm not regretting my purchase but the machine has been a little underwhelming. Outlaws just released a patch that let's you turn off the PiSSR and use FSR 3. FSR isn't perfect, (it doesn't handle her hair as well) but it is generally better with environments. But Horizon looks amazing on my LG G4. At least the 1st party stuff should really shine.😊
Just got me a Samsung S90D... Wasn't going to, but perhaps I should consider getting a PS5 Pro... I assume the stock PS5 Disc Drive isn't compatible with it? Means I'd have to buy a Disc Drive too... Not coming with one really kills it for me... Real hard to justify the cost for such a mild upgrade.
Sitting away about 4 meters from my s90c 77 and it was definately worthit for me. Dont sleep on the motion plus setting in game mode. Its a game changer for games that run at 60fps.
Most GPUs available to buy surpass the pro, might as well wait on the 5060 budget GPU of the next generation it will blow the psr pro away, any GPU can do what the PRO does because upscaling can be done through an app on PC no matter what GPU you have, only thing different will be the frame rate, and the PRO plays everything in 60, so won't be hard to surpass
It's so funny that with all these PS5 Pro comparison videos, we are debating whether the original PS5 or the PS5 Pro does something better 😅 PS5 Pro is twice the price of normal PS5. By default I expect it to do EVERYTHING better than the original. It's such a flop.
This is the issue with the PS5 pro the minute nature of the enhancements are not even worthwhile for hardcore players and digital foundry watchmen, let alone the general gamers.
Good to see you also included PC as a point of reference. The Ps5 Pro does find itself at an awkward price point where one might consider PC instead. This is one of those opportunities to see how it compares.
Usually I’m a big hater on reconstruction techniques (I’ll literally play in 1440p no AA instead give me sharpness!) but TLOU 2 with PSSR has the best upscaling technique
I view Guerilla Games as kind of the opposite of FromSoftware - their technology always impresses, they clearly have talented people working on their engine. But their game design is bland, forgettable, formulaic... the Horizon series breaks zero new ground in the open world genre and aside from their tech the games are mediocre. Then there's From, who basically created a new genre and their games are super memorable and well-designed... and meanwhile they couldn't figure out frame pacing for multiple console generations and technically tend to be kind of a joke.
I agree, I'm not a souls-like fan but I think it's different when you literally created the formula. It's been imitated by plenty of other games and they're never as good. From games aren't for me but I can respect what they've done and the following they've gained.
If it doesn't happen before Yotei, I'd give up hope. The quality mode of the base PS5 version already runs at 4k 60 though so I don't know that we're missing much.
For some games it's not needed if the hardware can reach target frame rate on it's own. This game isn't hard to run. I have it on PC and it's always above 120 FPS with my 3080 12GB on ultra settings so frame generation is unnecessary.
i'm really starting to dislike UE5. Look at this and indiana jones too - these things actually perform and look as i'd want and dont have the temporal smearing, stutters, and generally bad performance like UE5 does.
It saying UE5 does not have its glaring issues, but a reminder that these 2 games had devs who had time and money (and skill) to really optimize their games. And with Horizon more specifically, Guerrilla only has to focus on optimism for PS5 and Pro (since pc ports are handled by a different studio).

Now, after seeing PSSR in action, I completely get it. There is not a single game with PSSR right now with image quality this good.
I've avoided every game with pssr bedsides stellar blade. And I can still see the noisy artifacts on that. Horizon games look so clean it's crazy.
Is guerilla’s upscaler just baked into the games? Like would it be on the PC ports too?
Bullshit
But most have better have better IQ than those that use FSR
Rebirth and Stellar Blade are the big PSSR standouts, but I agree, HFW is hitting image quality levels well beyond even those two titles.
Can they give their tech to Respawn for Survivor? They still haven't fixed the flashy bushes as far as I see. Just revert back to the old performance mode for now, it's not that difficult.
Avatar's quality mode on PS5 Pro with PSSR looks stunning now. I play it with TV frame generation. Game is very responsive regardless.🌌💟
Stick deadzones set to zero!
Also Path of Exile 2 very good PSSR
If you have an OLED tv this looks absolutely gorgeous with the PS5 Pro. It’s worth the $$ investment. I have no interest in PC gaming so the Pro is amazing
I have both the PC and PS5 Pro versions. In terms of graphical fidelity they are nearly the same, but you can get much higher FPS on PC if you have the hardware.

Thanks for this and all the extraordinary high end work you do!
In a time when I’m dialling back my content feeds, yours is one I want more of and enjoy immensely
I saw a video of this game running on a ps5 pro and a PC; the PS5 Pro version was really really close to the PC version.
Deathstranding 2 is going to look amazing on the pro 😍
It doesn't matter when it's a fedex simulator sadly
Walking simulator 2 with le pretty graphics. Get some standards.
@gorillagroddgamingif you had standards you wouldn't be on console 😂
The reason the performance mode and resolution mode almost look identical it's because the performance mode skills from 1944P to 2160p so not much of a difference from true 4K at 30 FPS
I understand devs who don't want to allow users to completely turn off all motion blur. I imagine VFX artists screaming at a meeting that it's very important, and that they should respect their creative intent 😂
Is it true that HFR lowers the image quality of games even if ure playing on a Resolution mode ? For Example RE 4. Does the Resolution mode + RT (best image quality) have a lower image quality when HFR is activated ?
This get me exited for Death Stranding 2
Other gaming companies need to learn from guerilla. Their graphics look better than games releasing now and performs better
$700 for that🤣🤣🤣
welcome back alex
Damn not Digital Foundry admitting they held off on positive reviews to after launch period 😭😭😭😭
We wait for your answer about Threat Interactive made about your false claims
When video on black Myth Wukong patch ?
Is it possible to test the new patch of bmw plz ? :)
Hi but what6 is best? balanced pro or performance pro?
What about the ps5 pro soc analysis !?
The Horizon games give me hope for the Pro. I'm not regretting my purchase but the machine has been a little underwhelming. Outlaws just released a patch that let's you turn off the PiSSR and use FSR 3. FSR isn't perfect, (it doesn't handle her hair as well) but it is generally better with environments. But Horizon looks amazing on my LG G4. At least the 1st party stuff should really shine.😊
I dont get why cant they have same AA on base ps5?
I hope Namco and Capcom will update for PS5 Pro Tekken 8 and SF6. Especialy SF6.
TEKKEN 8 uses dynamic res up to 4K
Tekken 8 looks super clean and sharp on my pro
How can there be such a discrepancy in PSSR rendering between Horizon and Avatar??
Because theres no pssr in horizon
did you actually watch the video? there's no pssr in horizon, it's a custom solution.
Imagine a Crysis game with HFW graphics
Just got me a Samsung S90D... Wasn't going to, but perhaps I should consider getting a PS5 Pro...
I assume the stock PS5 Disc Drive isn't compatible with it? Means I'd have to buy a Disc Drive too...
Not coming with one really kills it for me... Real hard to justify the cost for such a mild upgrade.
What size?
Sitting away about 4 meters from my s90c 77 and it was definately worthit for me.
Dont sleep on the motion plus setting in game mode. Its a game changer for games that run at 60fps.
So just so i understand. The best upscaled game on the ps5 pro doesn't use pisser on the pro.
GPU equivalent to PS5 Pro when?
Most GPUs available to buy surpass the pro, might as well wait on the 5060 budget GPU of the next generation it will blow the psr pro away, any GPU can do what the PRO does because upscaling can be done through an app on PC no matter what GPU you have, only thing different will be the frame rate, and the PRO plays everything in 60, so won't be hard to surpass
From digital foundry prior tests, the ps5pro is a 3060ti
@@eclisis5080 Depends on how much VRAM the 5060 will have. You need at least 10-12GB of VRAM in some games to exceed console quality textures.
@@那人冷靜一點lol, they specifically said RTX 4060 to 470 if I recall correctly. 😂
@@那人冷靜一點 that was the regular PS5 lol, they said back then it's about 3060 Ti level
Gonna take a look at infinity Nikki? UE5 open world
I'm new to wukang guys i have a lg g4 what mode should I play on performance or balanced I like pssr so I don't mind it
Balanced
It's so funny that with all these PS5 Pro comparison videos, we are debating whether the original PS5 or the PS5 Pro does something better 😅
PS5 Pro is twice the price of normal PS5. By default I expect it to do EVERYTHING better than the original. It's such a flop.
the pop-in is very distracting
This is the issue with the PS5 pro the minute nature of the enhancements are not even worthwhile for hardcore players and digital foundry watchmen, let alone the general gamers.
Then your casual if you think that
This was really good
It would be a great idea if some studio could create an AAA Game with Kim Kardashian! It will be a Banger! 😂😂😂
It would be whoever owns the rights to The Hobbit.
please make a review for marvels spiderman remastered on ps5 pro
Now do Hell Divers 2
Has helldivers received a Pro patch?
@@MrRiceGuy95January it's ment to be released
For those who try to see ps5 pro différences with based PS5 in that vidéo with their phones, you won't sée any 😅
pc native w/o rt is perfect
They probably just used Spline36 as upscaler 😂
i'd rather have it run nicely on native
Good to see you also included PC as a point of reference. The Ps5 Pro does find itself at an awkward price point where one might consider PC instead. This is one of those opportunities to see how it compares.
Usually I’m a big hater on reconstruction techniques (I’ll literally play in 1440p no AA instead give me sharpness!) but TLOU 2 with PSSR has the best upscaling technique
Yet another PS5 Pro video when the Soul Reaver and The Thing remasters are out :/
I view Guerilla Games as kind of the opposite of FromSoftware - their technology always impresses, they clearly have talented people working on their engine.
I find fromsoftware games formulaic. They've been remaking the same game now many times now? And they still can't get it optimized
I agree, I'm not a souls-like fan but I think it's different when you literally created the formula. It's been imitated by plenty of other games and they're never as good. From games aren't for me but I can respect what they've done and the following they've gained.
PoE 2 when?
Umm…. Black Myth Wukong update??? Can we get a second look into the Pro enhancements???
They've said on the patreon they are working on a Pro comparison for that and Space Marine 2. Should be out this week.
I'm waiting for Ghost of Tsushima Pro Patch😢
If it doesn't happen before Yotei, I'd give up hope.
The quality mode of the base PS5 version already runs at 4k 60 though so I don't know that we're missing much.
Yotei fin flop like fish outta water. So will the next Naughty Dog title.
@@mosthated8848 "wamen bad"
Slightly waits for wukong ps5 pro patch performance video
Kind of insane how even sony's studios didn’t want to use pssr.
One studio doesn’t equate to “Sony’s Studios”
Naughty Dog used PSSR, Polyphony used PSSR, Insomniac used PSSR, Santa Monica used PSSR and others
@@amnril The amount of blatant lying about PS5 Pro on social media is crazy.
For some games it's not needed if the hardware can reach target frame rate on it's own. This game isn't hard to run. I have it on PC and it's always above 120 FPS with my 3080 12GB on ultra settings so frame generation is unnecessary.
There's even options to disable it. The main selling point... Lol
i'm really starting to dislike UE5.
I don't care at all for this game. It definitely Looks good but Not the Best looking game by far..
GOWR Looks WAY better..
GOT is on par if not better then HFW.
SM2 looks just has good.
All on PS5. The PS5 Pro is a Test Product.. Thankfully we have the Brand loyalists/ Early adopters to spend the money early to test these Products
If you have to stand right at the tv to really spot the difference, is it really worth it? But it does make me excited for the 6.
Wow, the graphical leap to the PS5 Pro is just mind-blowing. It looks so incredibly sharp and amazing. I absolutely have to run to the store right now and spend nearly 1000 euros on a PS5 Pro. 😂😂😂
Doesn't sound like you have it so no problem
At 1:45 I'm watching this on a 4k TV.
I can't tell the difference . Come on .
HZD even looked good on the Ps4 .
I see no reason they carnt move the standard ps5 versions to this new solution also.
The performance and quality will be worse but yes it could be done.
@Saif0412 I don't think performance would particularly be affected maybe slightly lower resolution
It's incredible how much time and money they waste on trivial minor shi t nobody cares about, instead of developing new interesting games.
