    I didn't get this brand name of door, but I got an "Active" brand aluminum door which is greatly similar. (Save for the fact that it came with NO instructions!) The detail and clarity of this video is priceless! Thank you.

    Just a tip. . . Once you've made sure that the hinge holes are drilled in the right places and that the hinge channel opens and closes properly, consider taking the whole thing off and mounting the door to the hinge channel while it's on its side, then remounting the hinges to the door frame with everything attached. I'm sure this video purposely leaves out the part where the door is being fit inside the channel and instead magically forwards to the door already being in place, because it's a pretty difficult proposition with these instructions -- you'll probably scratch the door because the channel actually has to be bent outwards while lining the adjustment screws up with the threaded inserts in the door. Also, I wouldn't take the factory instructions to cut 2 3/16" of length off the hinge channel. Assuming that you've already cut it flush to the top, of the door, that leaves it WAY too short for the sill expander to cover the gap that's created by the bottom of the door being so much longer than the cut bottom of the channel expander. Really unfortunate.

    There is an updated version of this video although it is extremely similar with only slight variation. I installed a Riviera model screen door from Unique Design screen doors today. I bought it at Home Depot for around $100 dollars during a sale. This model has decorative metal on the lower half to protect the screen and make the door a bit more secure. Replacing the hinge channel was a bit of a pain. The channel was too tight and the adjustment screws don't allow you to squeeze the entire channel in place and then screw in the adjustment screws. I wish the installation didn't require cutting the top of the hinge channel immediately upon unboxing the door, it's confusing and slowed me down quite a bit because I was afraid I was going to ruin the look or functionality of the door. The bottom line is that the door looks and functions great. The EZ adjust system really is easy to adjust and works perfectly. I would definitely buy another one of these screen doors without a doubt. I wish they would better explain the cutting of the hinge channel and not make the channel so tight while trying to put it back on. With that said............. They are a great product for a great price.

      Did you buy this at Home Depot? Here in Texas they have never heard about that channel expander. I cannot even order it at Home Depot website.

      Yes, I bought it at Home Depot. There was no sale flyer or anything, It just happened to be on sale at the store. I don't know if they are still selling them though. Good luck.

    What is the reason for cutting the hinge channel 2 and 3/16 shorted than the height of the door opening? The bottom channel is smaller than that and it would seem to make sense to cut the hinge channel to meet the bottom channel after it was in place and adjusted to the correct position. I like the door, but there is certainly a lot of “why do I want to do that?” time in mounting it.

      I really hate that about this video. No explanation as to why the cutting needs to happen.

      The hinge channel expander is longer than the door so to fit an 80" opening they need to cut it to fit. This give the option for a better fit for your door and allow for variation.

    You cut an inch off (why not ship it 1” shorter?) and mark it “top” then you mark “bottom” with another cut but these tape markings are never seen again. Are they just for orientation?

    • @HelpMeInstallIt
      @HelpMeInstallIt  6 лет назад +2

      The additional one inch adds additional adjustability if needed. The tape markings are for orientation, after the measure and trimming of the door, it is mark so the door can have the hinges on the appropriate side of your entry door.

    I have to remove my trim molding to install a screen door on my house entry door in my garage. The trim is about 1/4” thick, so Its not deep enough to screen on hinges. Going to rip that off and install new boards. So dumb

    Even after the replies to the inquiries below, I still don't understand the cutting the initial 1" off when immediately after, you are cutting it to the size of the opening (minus 2-3/16"). What am I missing?

    • @HelpMeInstallIt
      @HelpMeInstallIt  5 лет назад +1

      The hinge channel provided is intentionally larger than the hinged door height, cutting the additional 1” off adds to the adjustability if needed for the channel, then measuring for the door height makes the cut more precise.

    • @notsosilentmajority1
      @notsosilentmajority1 5 лет назад +3

      I agree with you. I took extra time trying to figure out why it just didn't come flush at the top with adjustments being made at the bottom, perhaps with a slotted design. I ended up reading the instructions multiple times and then watching 2 different videos. Eventually I just followed the directions but thought it was longer because the company may save money by making that item useable on different products and letting the consumer do the work of trimming it to size. I mean the minute you unpack it you have to cut it off. The only problem I had was trying to put that hinge channel back on, twice. The channel itself was so tight I had to spread it open at certain points after getting aggravated because I didn't want to ruin the look or functionality of it. I finally got mad enough that I just spread it apart, thankfully it looks and functions great. Anyway, the door is well worth the money but wasted some time trying to figure out why I was cutting the top of the hinge channel right out of the box. No one wants to make a mistake by cutting something wrong and ruining the product or ruining it's appearance once in place. I think that's why people spend time wondering about that cut.

      @@HelpMeInstallIt Except that cutting the hinge channel that much leaves a pretty sizable gap at the bottom. Too much for the sill expander to cover up.
