Watching your RUclips and Patreon vids have helped me get my hunting setup dialed in…this will be my first year traditional. Can’t promise I won’t pickup my crossbow in the late season (Dec.-Jan) but Oct and Nov for me are dedicated to my long bow.
Jason if we were neighbors, there would be a LOT of late night garage inventing going on! Love that table of heads and appreciate the “custom” inserts!! My brother just shakes his head at all my messing. It’s not at all necessary like you said, but, it sure is fun.
Keep pumping out the content. Good stuff. I'd recommend looking at the Ashby reports, specifically the broadhead testing. I know their testing is on big game, probably overkill for whitetail, but its interesting to see the things they look for regarding structural integrity.
@@SamkoTradBowI also like the guy on RUclips Luskarchryadvetuers because he has the steel sheet metal for showing the cut profile which is most important in a broadhead.
I have gone the opposite direction. I used high carbon steel broadheads for a while, but I spend so much time cleaning the rust off of them I've given up and gone back to magnus. Hunting in the PNW it's just always wet. I can't keep them from rusting. Understanding your equipment and the environment and how those things work together is huge.
@Jbzero999 yep. That's what I was talking about. Don't just run out and buy bunches of a head until you k ow what works best for you. And after a few seasons of real world use and proven characteristics then stock up
I have the Razor 150 Left Bevel, Experimenting with the 250 left bevel . But i just cant put away My Zwickey No Mercy s... Also left Bevel That's quite the Collection you Got there Bro, 👍🏻
@RobertEatonOutdoors I do think matching your bevel to the fletch does matter to get the s shaped bigger cut on the hide. If you mix bevel and fletchvspin direction it will counter act and just be a straight cut
I gave Grizzlystick single bevels a shot last year. Only got 2 shots, 1 miss and 1 kill. What made me a believer is both broadheads still cut paper and the miss was into a sandy creek bed and showed no damage. I obviously don't have enough info to say they are better than brand "A" or "B", but they will stay in the quiver this year. Magnus Stingers are going to get a try this year too. I don't see myself going to a 3 blade, but the VPA would be on my list especially with how easy they are to sharpen. As you said, everything has a benefit and a tradeoff. I will not ever use a mechanical or anything with a chisel tip anymore after having failures when I shot compound. Always a cut on contact.
@blakeumthun8128 well said and like the way you are approaching all this. Including learning first had about mechanicals and the chisel tip heads. I have learned the same and prefer the cut on contact
Starting with VPA 2 blade single bevels. They shot just like my field points. They are about $77 a 3pack and they are dull when they show up. I wanted a back up that I could have that came sharp so I tried the Crimson Talon Cleavers and they are $30 a 3 pack. VPA’s are single piece of steel where the Cleavers are 2 piece but both shoot the same out of my bow. The VPA’s have a steeper angle on the bevel so when you pull it out of target it’s noticeably different!!!! Both have same cut diameter and both sharpen good. It’s more or less a coin flip for me right now but the steeper angle is gonna create a better wound channel so gonna be my first out the bow I believe. Think if I were to shoot something else it would be a VPA 3 blade 200gr.
South west Michigan must have all the trad shooters, Razor and Abowyer are pretty close in proximity to each other, as is 3 Rivers Archery. I like that their both actually made in the USA, not just machined here.
@@ArchersAnonymous-nb4ym abowyer was instrumental in razorbroadheads becoming a reality. Love how everyone helps everyone in this industry. I could tell you stories about bowyers helping bowyers that would blow your mind. This is the best community there is. So proud to be a part of it
@ArchersAnonymous-nb4ym that is not my story to tell. But I can say that Larry at abowyer were the broadhead company that Dave at razor admired most and Dave contacted Larry who was very generous with his time and knowledge to help razor do everything right. Larry was an amazing man and went above and beyond to shorten the learning curve for razor. Larry sold abowyer shortly after and the new owners are doing an excellent job with the company. My 2 all time favorite heads made today. Razor and abowyer. I shoot the razors exclusively as right now to help promote their amazing heads and the amazing guys behind the company. And they made the 200 and 250 to the specs I wanted and had me test them for them as well. So I feel very connected to the razors. With that said I also love abowyer heads tremendously. I would shoot either one anytime!
I'll take a simmons sharks over any other 2 blade. VPA 3 blades are my second choice. I am not a fan of single bevels..... but like you said, everyone needs to find out what works for them
I shot a 2 blade perfectly under the heart and if i would have had a 4 blade i would have got the bottom of that heart so i switched from 2-4 blade for this very reason !
@Crayz919 pros and cons to both. Had thst hit been in the should blade or leg bone the 4 blade would of got stuck or worse just got to one lung. Where a 2 blade would of have a better chance of getting to both lungs. Everything is a trade off. So like you said. Find what matters most ro you and gives you the most confidence.
I find the S7 heads are very hard to sharpen at least for me. Unless you have a good sharpen device to sharpen them with. I think a softer steel is the way to go
@chickimac1 s7 is very tough. Razor uses a2 as it's easier. But with all the harder steels it's good to have a belt sander as it really speeds up the sharpening. I have been using my 1x30 harbor freight belt sander for 10 years. Best 50 bucks I've ever spent. I use it for sharpening every thing
Once I went exploding tip, I never went back. I mean there’s less meat, but some of it is cooked for you and there’s no tracking the deer. Life is about trade offs..
