Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, the upper hinge plate could point downward so it closes off the hinge side of the gate. If you are trying to keep people out, that's definitely a consideration.
Thank you so much for the very clear instructions on hanging the gate and links for buying the correct parts. The box stores were no help at all. Our posts are already in. The fence guy never came back to hang the gate so we are going to do it ourselves and I couldn’t figure out what parts I needed. ❤️❤️❤️
My gate is 1 3/8" but your link for hinge pin is 1 5/8" and link for hinge is 1 3/8. Is that correct to get 1 5/8 for post and 1 3/8 to connect to gate? Ty! Video was exactly what I needed to see.
Yes, these are the correct links! The hinge pin is actually 5/8, it's for the smaller part of the hinge. The 1 3/8" hinge dimension is for the larger steel pipe of the gate. Does that make sense? Hard to explain without showing you a diagram. I hope that helps! Let me know if you think my information might be in error.
The hardware I used can be tightened with a nut, so there is no risk of the gate lifting off, unless the nut loosens and the gate is lifted by force. It's been nearly a year and it's still in excellent shape. Thanks for watching!
How do I know if I should order the 1 3/8” or 1 5/8” fence hinges. I have a chain link fence from Lowe’s. I have no spare washers so I need to know what size to order. I’m a woman on my own and don’t have help. Thank you.
It depends on the diameter of the pipe frame of your gate. Can you go measure it? If it's 1-3/8" (which is most common) then get that one. Amazon lets you choose the size you need. Fortunately they're not super expensive, so if you get the wrong one, no big deal. Good luck on your project!
I've never worked with a circular post, but I don't see why this same method wouldn't work. Depending on the width of the post, the anchoring plates might not sit flush. You may need to use shims or something so the plates are flush with the curved surface.
The frame of the gate is 1 and 3/8 inch steel pipe, which determines the size of hinge and hinge plate you use. In terms of the gate's dimensions, I THINK it is 4x3.5 ft, but I could be wrong.
lol well in my opinion is not a consideration about the top hinges faceing down that is the way it is supposed to be... facing down so no one can lift your gate up off the hinges and walk away with it if you going to do it do it right..my suggestion is you'll have to drill all the way through the post and use a nut and bolt type of system and there is another way but trying to explain it to you will be too much writing
This is absolute wonderful. Just what I needed. I’ve been so confused. Excellent recording as well!!! Thank you!!!
Nice video , you can also use J galvanized rods
I needed this! Thanks for the details and the work.
The wholesome encouragement I needed today
Supposed to put the upper post facing down so it is difficult to lift off.

100%
Yep, top one down and bottom one up. Did a great job on the posts and gate.
This is just what I was look for! Thank you! Very well explained :) I’ll be checking out your other videos!!!
For some reason it's hard to find videos on doing this. Glad it was helpful.

Good luck! Yes, I found the kits at the hardware store to not be that helpful.
Thanks man! Just what i've been looking for!
I hope it helps. I couldn't find much online on this subject.
Thanks this is exactly what I’m doing.
No problem! I couldn't find any good videos out there on this subject, so I'm glad it's helpful to you.
And thanks for the Amazon links I needed that
Great video, thank you!
I hope it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get the flush mount hinge pins?
I believe I included Amazon links in the description. You can probably also find these at your local hardware store.
What size washers did you use for the Lagscrews?
Use whatever washers fit your screws. I just used washers that I had in my spare hardware.

Will not the fence lift right off the hinges unless you install one of the hinges facing downward?
The hardware I used can be tightened with a nut, so there is no risk of the gate lifting off, unless the nut loosens and the gate is lifted by force. It's been nearly a year and it's still in excellent shape. Thanks for watching!

Where is the link for the parts list?
It's in the information section, below the video.
What height fence is this for?
The fence is 4 feet or 1.2 meters tall. The posts are 8 feet or 2.4 meters.
will it work on a circular post
I've never worked with a circular post, but I don't see why this same method wouldn't work. Depending on the width of the post, the anchoring plates might not sit flush. You may need to use shims or something so the plates are flush with the curved surface.
What size gate is that? Do you buy it at Lowes?

I got the gate at Home Depot, but I bet Lowe's carries them too.

I concede the point. The upper hinge should be facing down. Thanks for the clarification.
