    How was it Warren’s fault? He didn’t read it because he knew something was not correct. It was more Faye Dunaway’s fault in my opinion for taking the card and reading without comprehending what she was reading first.

    • @79Glitch
      @79Glitch Год назад +1

      That’s exactly why it shouldn’t have been best picture. No one is interested in watching that movie a second time. The whole point of great movies is to watch then over and over again. This was an Oscars “too white” over correction.
      Also the fact the main competitor was La La Land, also a very imperfect but ambitious movie. But it would be tough coming off “Oscars Too White” scandal and giving the award to a movie about American jazz music … featuring a white jazz musician.

    • @htpkey
      @htpkey 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@79Glitch It's such an absurd criticism to claim that "great movie are meant to be watched over and over again".
      Movies that impacted me the most (and ones that I consider truly outstanding) would generally get one or two viewings, because they hit a very hard message that needs some time to process. Movies that are just entertaining action/comedy flicks might get half a dozen repeats, because they're just comfortable enjoyment.
      People usually don't want to have an existential crisis every time they watch a movie, most of the time people just want something comforting or entertaining to watch. Unless you are studying film or reviewing them.
      Also, your racism is showing with your Oscars rant.

    • @79Glitch
      @79Glitch 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@htpkey Moonlight is fine. It’s just not a best picture caliber movie. But the Oscars get it wrong more often than they get it wrong more than they get it right, so it’s par for the course? But that is actually a separate argument from what I was making.
      The argument about a good movie, book, painting, song, album, or any piece of art that is produced at the highest level is probably also something that one wishes to re-visit more than once … that is a tangential or philosophical argument.
      If something is “too powerful” to consume more than once or twice … I would contend that is NOT a good piece of art. That would be evidence of a work that is manipulative or didactic, by definition; it doesn’t hold up to the standards of art.
      Anyone who has studied art history, or even film history like you mentioned, would be very familiar with this concept: true art achieves stasis; non-art (advertisements for example, or pornography) purposefully compel emotions in a manipulative way, I.e. it is kinetic.
      But that is just a pedantic response to your point, not really a judgement on Moonlight … because I think Moonlight is a well made and artistic movie. It’s just not worthy of being a best picture.
      But neither was the Queen biopic, or Green Book, or Coda, or The Artist, or the majority of the winners in the past ten years. The Oscars is a ridiculous event that means very little at this point. I guess I should have clarified my viewpoint?
      But Moonlight absolutely rode the wave of Oscar’s too white, and if you deny that … you’re either naive, clueless, or lying. And someone should be able to point out the obvious without a cheap ad hominem attack in a comment thread. Anyone playing that loosely with accusations like that is highest suspect, in my opinion. If that is your go to conclusion, knowing nothing else about the commenter beyond a few sentences … what does that say about your own biases? Its indicative of the kind of language and thought policing of the fascist cancel culture that is so persistent amongst the uneducated masses on places like … RUclips, or social media.
      Well … I guess I found you in your natural habitat then?

    The blame for this Academy Award fiasco goes primarily to PriceWaterhouseCoopers Managing Partner Brian Cullinan for giving Warren Beatty a duplicate of Emma Stone's Best Actress envelope instead of the Best Picture envelope. Cullinan had been Tweeting while holding multiple envelopes instead of focusing on his immediate job.
    However, Warren Beatty also shares in the blame because he knew that he had the wrong envelope. Beatty has been in the movie business virtually his entire life, he's won an Oscar himself, he's been center stage many times opening award envelopes and presenting others with Oscars through the decades, and--most important of all--he knows that the Oscar for Best Picture is always awarded to the producers of the movie, which rarely includes an actor or actress. So as soon as he saw Emma Stone's name on the card, instead of the producers, he should have immediately recognized that he somehow got the wrong envelope. He then could have temporarily stopped the proceedings and explained to the audience that he needed to check something before making the announcement of the winner.
    Even I learned that the producers always got the Best Picture Oscar when I watched my first Academy Award show when the Best Picture went to The Godfather. The winner of that Oscar was Albert S. Ruddy, someone who I had never heard of before at the time. I was surprised because I knew the director, the author, the actors and actresses, and even the director of photography and the composer of the music, but I didn't know who Albert S. Ruddy was. My parents explained that he was the producer of the movie; they told me what the producer's role in the movie was, which involved a lot of creative and business responsibilities and decisions; and they told me that the producers always receive the Best Picture Oscar. I never forgot that.
    And neither should Beatty have forgotten that fact.

    • @RaymondHng
      @RaymondHng Год назад

      The Academy is partially to blame as well for not renewing the previous designer's contract to design and produce the cards and envelopes. The previous designer< Marc Friedland, printed the envelope with black lettering on a white card mounted on a gold envelope. They switched to another designer--or may have done it in-house--who printed the category _Best Actress_ in small type at the bottom of the card and the film title in the same size as the person's name and printed the envelope with gold lettering on a red envelope which is difficult to read under low lighting conditions when the envelope was handed to the presenter backstage. The small type of the category on the card and the low contrast of the lettering on the envelope combined with the visual impairment of the aging eyesight of the two presenters eliminated this fail safe mechanism of the process.

    Sylvester Stallone is the real winner for Best Supporting Actor of 2015 for Creed. (No offense to Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies)

    Brokeback Mountain is the real winner for Best Picture of 2005. (Not Crash)
    Kung Fu Panda is the real winner for Best Animated Feature Film of 2008. (Don’t get me wrong. I love WALL-E, but it’s just both WALL-E and Bolt are both great movies too both distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)
    The Revenant or Mad Max: Fury Road are both real winners for Best Picture of 2015 (Not Spotlight)

      Are you sure you watched the same video as everyone else? Beatty paused for so long, Faye got tired and he showed the mistake on the card to her. She just straight up read the movie name without seeing Emma Stone written on it. The only trouble is they didn't know what to do if they had the wrong card. And the academy officials in charge of the cards were nowhere to be seen.

    La La Land deserved the Oscar as much as Moonlight did. Both movies were fresh and amazing. But no doubt La La Land won the maximum number of Oscar awards, and the only movie with the highest number of Oscar nominations in history along with the highest number of golden globes. Much love to both teams anyway.

      +Ultimate Warrior Sigh; yes, I am. But I don't believe that there's no such thing as bad publicity. PwC can proclaim its fault all it wishes to - which I'm sure isn't much! - but it's the Academy that will (and should) ultimately be held responsible - for placing two accountants, one of them preoccupied with taking and tweeting backstage photos, who know nothing about running such a show, in charge of correcting just such mistakes, which neither stepped up to do. I don't see what they could possibly stand to gain, except, perhaps, some lawsuits.
