The first rock concert that I ever attended was on Petra’s Beat The System tour in 1985. That album is still one of my favorite albums to this day.

My 1st Concert was a Petra Concert with Geoff Moore & The Distance as the opening act, It was around Valentine's Day Weekend in 1988.
Indeed, God works in mysterious ways.
There are and have always been different expressions of worship.
The first time I heard christian rock was through stryper. Love that band.

I grew up in this era and saw Petra and Stryper a few times. This ushered in the church music wars which I thought was over but I was wrong. Still there’s nothing wrong with rock and roll and the naysayers in the 1980’s were dead wrong about it.

This aired in the mid eighties, before White Cross and Guardian were on the scene.

What Greg Volz had to say about Rock n Roll starting in the church was true....they didn't want it and all wanted to be "dead-heads"...until they realized that they were losing more and more of the younger gens--no you have all these "contemporary" churches trying to bring them all back.
Being part of a gospel group, we were kicked out of a few churches because I played the bass. All thanks to Bob Jones University! You can preach to one or you can preach to many.

The Bible says to praise God on the stringed instruments and organs in psalms. I know everyone out there singing isn't a born again Christian, but whatever instrument that there is we should play them to magnify Jesus Christ.

Bob Dylan released three Christian albums from 1979 to 1981.
I was only a little kid when all of this was going on. Even though I was only 5, I still thought ppl were being hypocrites. Christians are supposed to love like Christ and they were doing the opposite. They still do to an extent and it is a shame. Unfortunately, these ppl don't realize that they are really just hurting ppl and even worse, themselves because they don't know what they are too stubborn to appreciate.
All things created were meant to glorify God, the devil stole music we're stealing it back.

These bands (particlarly Stryper) generated a lot of jealousy within the Christian Evangelical community. Many of the popular, greedy, bible-pounding hypocrites of the day attacked Stryper - sniping about their clothes, their hair, their genre of music - because they were reaching an audience that even the most aggressive evangelists couldn't hope to reach.
The Scriptures says rejoice in the Lord the Lord did NOT say how should rejoice

You can find Petra captured in time and space easily. Thats the Beat the System tour. The best one in my opinion.

It always amazed me that these people who called Stryper and others evil or bad for Christianity as they put it, you can't listen to or be involved in that kind of music and be godly. I bet they went home to listen to some form of music with religious overtones. Funny how their music is ok, but everyone elses wasn't.

He is quoting scripture. Romans 3:23-24 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

Say what ya want-Rock N Roll always has been, and always will be, the Devil's music! Even David Bowie told us that! Remember:The Devil can appear in any form, and he'll use people like Stryper and these other groups to get you to rebel against God. In the 1988-1989 time period alone, Stryper toured with White Lion. Greg D'Angelo literally saw Robert Sweet, the drummer for Stryper, so drunk after a party, that two people literally had to drag him to his hotel bedroom. Robert couldn't even walk! Tim Gaines, the bass guitarist from Stryper, admitted that "Every day, from 1988 to early 1997, I was drunk every day". Those were his own words. Oz Fox, from that very same band said "There was definitely sin happening in the band Stryper". Amy Grant has been shown in videos doing a satanic hand salute. She is not a Christian! Petra claims that God gave us Rock and Roll. What a blasphemous lie! Any group that claims to be Christian, and yet involves themselves in evil practices, is satanic, and you should avoid them like the plague, because that's what they are-a giant plague!!!
And Jesus ate with sinners! And his disciples ate with unclean hands and picked grain on the Sabbath! A holy God would never condone such evil.

Ron...You might be a Christian brother too me, so I'll be gentle with you. I am grateful to God for giving me another way to praise and worship Him! Around 40 years ago I became a born again Christian. I was around twelve. You know, it's the age where the "right road" gets narrow and the "wrong road" starts to get wider. The Holy Sprit would help bring to mind the words and music from these bands (and more) to help me decide the right decision at many crossroads. Even today at 54 these track's are still rolling in my heart and soul. The only advice I can give you is....lay down your stone's for a minute and give them a listen. I'll pray for you and ask if you could pray for me.
