    I don't know if this would work for me....for me it's not only the size of the yard it's what is in the yard, how much weed eating does it require. Is it fenced in? How wide are the gates? Is there a ditch that would have to be weed eated and can't be mowed with a mower? This will require more time/labor. Some driveways are simple and small and some are huge and require more time to blow off. I have some customers that have gravel driveways and don't need to be blown off at all. Blowing off some properties can take as long as the cutting. What type of grass do they have and how fast does it grow... there are many more factors than just the square footage of the area . To me I like to meet the client in person and see if they are a jerk also and look at the property first hand before giving an estimate and even after I give an estimate I may change my mind after I cut it a couple times. Time IS money and I think tis method of giving an estimate would save you time but I'm not sure if I could afford to risk not knowing all of the other factors in giving an estimate.

      holy shit man, in the time you spent writing that out you probably could've used the software to get ballpark figures and asked 5 prospective clients all the questions you listed out in your comment. Look at the property via street view and if it's a typical resi you'll be able to see a lot of the variables you mentioned. And if not, call the prospect and ask them

      I’m with you. I think this strategy could work good depending on where you are in the country but I am in the rocky and hill covered terrain of PA. I wouldn’t be comfortable at all bidding a job without walking it. I deal with tree roots, rocks, ditches, etc at nearly every property. I need to walk it down to know what I’m getting into. However in an HoA in the Great Plains this would probably work fine.

      Lol stop blaming the yard your not sharping up your blades and leavening fungus on the bottom of your deck that’s what’s causing them tire tracks in people yards it’s also all about how you cut the yard and other variables

    Do clients ever question you about using a google map to quote their yard? I'm not sure if people in my area would be comfortable with me giving a quote on lawn care without physically seeing the property

    • @LandscapeMarketingPros
      @LandscapeMarketingPros  7 лет назад

      Where are you located?
      A lot of it comes from how confidently you tell them that you use software to measure their property so you can get a quote to them faster & more efficiently. Because that's exactly how we did it & just about every prospective client was impressed that we "so advanced" haha.
      This was done primarily for services such as mowing, fert/wc, dethatching, aeration, & overseeding where the main metric we based our pricing on was square footage. However, if they lived in a city/area where we knew was hilly or on a lake where it's likely there are a lot of trees or bigger hills, then we'd have to go look at the property in-person if Google street view or bing's bird's eye view was sufficient.

  • @tstfrd
    @tstfrd 6 лет назад

    Why not measure the whole lot with the house. That way if its a small lot with a big house, he can afford the higher cost. If its a big lot with a small house, your not out pricing people who cannot afford it. Both lots are priced the same, no matter what size house they live in. Seems more fair.

    • @LandscapeMarketingPros
      @LandscapeMarketingPros  6 лет назад +3

      The price of your services should never be based on "how wealthy the client may or may not be". How biased and ignorant is that? 9.9x out of 10 unless a prospect was a hot referral (meaning they know the person very well whom recommended your company) they will get multiple bids & throw out the one that's priced 40% higher unless you're very good at selling which I'm going to assume you're not based on what you just said. There are other variables with this but judging your pricing by a book's cover is plain unethical. If you're wanting to grow your business, picture yourself telling your sales staff (provide they're ethical) that concept & see their reaction...they'd likely either laugh at you in despair or be upset that you'd increase the price because you "think the person has money to blow".
      Your pricing should be based on the raw numbers it takes to run a profitable business, ie. how many man hours & equipment hours the property will take your crew to complete the job. Plain and simple. That mindset is similar to the lazy bottom feeders who think the 1% should "pay for everything because they can 'afford' it", never mind the fact of how much value one has to produce in order to reach a net worth/income to be at that level, but that's a topic for a video in an of itself....so thank you for bringing this up, I'll do a video topic on this in the near future

    • @tstfrd
      @tstfrd 6 лет назад +2

      I never said "base the price on how wealthy the client is", I said base it on the total square footage of the property including the house. I will do alot more labor intensive work on a big house in weed eating, edging, and blowing vs a small house with a big yard. It is not hard to sit and ride a lawn mower. My prices are not 40% higher Goober, they are less per square foot than your charging, because I'm taking into account that its more square feet with the house included. I don't have to make little sections of boxes, making sure I hit every little section of the yard and that its up next to the house, then add them together to get a total. I plot 4 spots and I'm done, that gives me my total square feet. With your analogy, Exxon gas stations should not be able to charge different prices for gas in different locations in town, or even a mile down the road from each other. It would be "unethical". Grocery stores should not be able to charge different prices for Bordon milk that are across the street from each other. "unethical". Convenience stores should not be able to sell beer at different prices from other convenience stores, because it would be "unethical". Internet Companies should not sell the same items at different prices, even though both are drop shipping from the same location. YOU should not be able to charge more for mowing the same lawn as a competitor, because its the SAME LAWN! How ignorant are you to think that? This is called CAPITALISM, if you believe in socialism than I can understand why you think the way you do.

      it's not a paid service until mid July. Probably though due to the increased amount of traffic this video brought them over the past 2 years 😏. But in all seriousness, even it was $100-500/mo it would be well worth it because it saves so much time & increases efficiency. Instead of looking for ways to pinch pennies you should be looking for methods (such as this one) that'll increase & streamline your sources of revenue.
