Thanks SO much for posting the English lyrics! I'm surprised the recording is such that so many of the lyrics are not understandable. If I may, though, make one small correction, it is: "Life sings your song as long as waves roll (not roar) to the coast".
@old music Yes, "roar" works in the context you've described, but I definitely hear an "L" at the end of the word. Either way, it's a beautiful and haunting song!

These English lyrics suck. If this is the final version the English production is going to fail for sure. They should do a more faithful translation of the German one.
Considering that this is an early demo of the music (from around 2003), the lyrics in question are basically taken straight from the dialogue of the book, and that there are four variations of the Rebecca theme in the show (one that starts out with the first half of the lyrics of this song, one at the end of act one, one early into act two (which is the longest variation, is included in the Wien studio cast from 2006, includes the second half of this song but not the Rebecca chant at the beginning like in the Wien studio cast), and one after the big reveal that Rebecca had cancer), I would say that these lyrics help drive the story. If you really want to know the show, I would suggest getting one of the live recordings, either the 2007 original cast or (if you're a fan of Pia Douwes) the new 2012 recording.
