💖Although mental health care has improved significantly over the last decades, many people still choose not to seek treatment or quit prematurely. A number of possible factors contribute to these disparities with stigma being perhaps the most significant. Stigma hurts individuals with mental illness and their communities, creating injustices and sometimes devastating consequences. In this talk show, we will discuss mental illness stigma and its related constructs, describe the current state of understanding mental illness stigma in Islam, and summarize critical considerations to address stigma in our Muslim community.
💖The Annual MAS-ICNA Convention is one of the largest and most diverse Islamic conventions in North America. The convention takes place in Chicago, Illinois every December during the winter holiday season.

Thank you so much for covering this subject. I was depressed in my teenage years and I reached the point where I gave myself no less than 60 cuts in the space of 3 days. I also was considering suicide so much, and the only reason I didn't do it was because I was afraid of going to Jahanam. My family wasn't educated on the subject so they blamed me and called me ungrateful to Allah and said I don't have iman... Al hamdulillah now I'm so much better, I'm happier than ever, and even my family ended up understanding that mental health is real and it's not my fault for being depressed. May Allah give health to all of us.

Sadly, in my region talking about mental health is still a taboo, and there is still lack of good therapists, even if there is, it wood be pretty much expensive. To me, the mental healthcare in my country still poor..

Wow, the Ummah is looking more and more like the Church. No doubt the dresses and skirts will get shorter and shorter.
I like the subject of mental health but we have to be careful of using hadith that may not be authentic like the one sis Dunyah mentioned "walking to the masjid and getting the benefits of 1 year fasting and 1 year of qiyam" ask the people of hadith if you don't know. Do not rely on your own knowledge of Islam. Simply ask.
Like you requested for people to go to a licensed therapist then you should also go to a qualified sheikh regarding your islamic knowledge and even more so.

While they speak eloquently. I'm not sure they know anyone with a real diagnosis. Psychology is different from psychiatry. Good talks don't get rid of the severity of mental illness.You could be fine 25 years and get illness after that requiring meds. Imaan has nothing to do with mental illness. No doubt Allah can heal anyone but a person with blood pressure needs meds so really these 3 aren't qualified for this topic sadly.I guess the host is only one qualified because he's a psychiatric nurse.
