  • This is my honest opinion on DDJ-1000SRT. I bought it from American Musical and would not post my review so I thought it was important to make a quick video. I am a full time working DJ for 30 years and not a reviewer so excuse the bad production.

      Yo.. I have the SRT, and I never find myself longing for the extra effects. I just don't miss them. And really, I don't need waveforms in the jogs either. What I need, and have, is pure cdj / nexus feel, in a Serato controller. And the shit works FLAWLESSLY with Serato. I've had it for 7 months now and haven't had a single issue that wasn't my own fault (like accidently setting the top of the channel to usb B and not realizing why the fucki g channel was "in use" when it wasn't. Man I use Traktor and this pisses me off too. Pioneer and Serato had a chance here to do some ground breaking collaboration to push dj'ing forward a step. But instead of getting the best of both worlds, they got the worst of both worlds.
    I'm not even a midi mappig expert, and I could have mapped that 1000 better than that. In fact, there's a few videos with guys mapping it to Traktor. And they did a nice job. The only thing is those screens are proprietary to Pioneer so they couldn't get those to work.
    But yeah like a lot of comments have said, this review was madd honest and on point. I wished every youtube reviewer would do the same.

    Since I play all over the country the reality is that I've been seeing less and less CDJ and 900 setups as each month goes by. I see mostly controllers. I even use a SZ2 at the Mirage in Las Vegas.

    • @Icevampir
      @Icevampir 5 лет назад +9

      It depends on your scene and your country tho.
      If you are into techno, minimal and house (non-commercial) and clubs..here in Berlin you will almost NEVER see controllers.
      Most of the times it would be turntables and boutique mixers like DJR400 or turntables + cdj's + Xone:92 or 96.
      The reason might be:
      Pioneer mixers sound quality is not so good compared to other brands when you also play analog vinyl.

      ProudTiger was the sound quality of Pioneer mixers always considered poor or is that only in the newer models? I have experience with both older and newer Pioneer and Rane mixers but never really listened to them side by side on the same sound system to compare the old to the new.

    • @Icevampir
      @Icevampir 5 лет назад +1

      @@DJ-Coma
      Honestly: yes.
      Rodec mixers would have (and are still) for example much better sound quality. Also Ecler and some of the Vestax mixers. The older Rane mixers (57, MP2015 and so on) before 72 are also good.
      Pioneer sounds like in a tin compared to them.
      From the newer ones: those Condesa Electronics, MasterSounds, FormulaSounds or DJR400 have excellent sound.
      But what really is nuts, is the fact that Pioneer had the balls to spare a couple of dollars in production costs and build - in some preamps only capable handling timecode in DDJ-1000 and 1000SRT, admit the issue in their forum and suggest to "use some external RIAA phono preamps".
      In 1200-1500 dollar gear.

      John Aguilar i agree but they also should have had the option to have more stuff on the screens (waveforms with cue points, etc) like the RekordBox version. I bought this controller myself and I must say the hardware and color fx are killer. It’s very lightweight and compact for a 4 ch controller prob the smallest 4 ch controller there is on the market with bigger jogwheels than the SX series. As for the looping you can easily midi map it like an sx,sz model which is what I’ve done. I was quite surprised to find the controller does not work with usb power at all unless you have the power adapter connected. I was under the impression all controllers operated with single usb power like my SR2, Primo controllers. Nope apparently this one needs more power. However the hardware fx blow SDJ’s izoptope fx out of the water. Hardware fx are better anyways no cpu so if you’re on a weak machine then this just increases your chances of less dropouts. And overall i think it has a great soundcard. Still very happy with my purchase👌🏼💥

      Please let me know how you like it. I'm pretty dumbfounded how they stripped this down from the Rekordbox version. Also no IEC Cable. If you lose or break the power supply you're screwed.

    • @MadCity13
      @MadCity13 5 лет назад

      Of course they stripped it back from the RB 1000, why would you make a product for another company with all the same functionality as yours. That's just good business. Would Mercedes Benz make a Buick with the same look and feel as a Benz? No! The differences in the software makes it difficult to do the same things from one to the other anyway.
      Serato is more simple ...streamlined by a decade of usability and feedback. Rekordbox has more functionality in the base software. Pioneer Dj is trying to corner the market, their gear is all over the place and they are trying to get people to switch. So making a pro level controller for another software that is as good as their product is not in their best interest. You want all the perks of the 1000(Rekordbox), use their software. It's that simple, make the switch. It might be a pain in the butt if you have a Windows PC(like me), because you can't transfer all your cue points, hot cues and beat gridding over via Recordbuddy. So, I had to go through my library all over again in Rekordbox. It sucked, but now I can use both software and take advantage of all the extra perks on my 1000(need to use Rekordbox for exporting to flash drives anyway). I also have a SX3 and an SR. I prefer Serato, because it's what I started on, but I learned Rekordbox because the 1000 is one of the best controllers on the market.

  • @justsomedude1898

    Post fader effects wouldn’t work if the fader is the wet/dry signal. You would just be turning the effect off when you turn the fader off (unless you use the cross fader). That’s just from my understanding though I could be wrong. I bought the controller and it should be arriving in a few days just because I want to learn something as close to the standard CDJ and DJM setup as possible so switching to that is seamless for me

I mostly bought this for the light weight and the jog wheels. The NS7 was cool for awhile but as I’m getting older and my gigs have increased a lot the NS7 is started to weigh as much as a Buick! Thank you for going in depth on this. I have yet to see any other review mention that the internal software FX are NOT post-fader in this controller. I have the DDJ-SZ and that is the one thing that has always irked me about it, although I understood why because it was the first controller that was also a full-on “hardware mixer” so the faders were doing more than the other controllers where the faders were only sending midi to the software.
    The fact that they were able to overcome this on the SZ2 and the RekordBox version of the 1000 just shows that Pioneer really half assed this controller and rebranded it for Serato with as little effort as possible.
    If I do decide to get a 1000 it will absolutely be the RekordBox version thanks to your review.

    Thank you for this review. If I were buying new I would have been tempted by this, but I since I'm going used I'm leaning towards an sx3 that I can get for $325 less than any used DDJ-1000. I'm replacing a DJ-808 that died. I can live without my Drum Machine, but I'm not ready to leap backwards from full Serato support.
    Looks like the SX3 is a solid win for me, and you boosted my confidence in that.

      Tone Flores mixing in key is a blessing and a curse. I see a lot of DJ’s that will ONLY ever choose the next song based on if the key is compatible with the current song. What they don’t realize is that just because two songs don’t have “compatible” keys, it doesn’t mean the blend will sound bad. They’re limiting themselves by ONLY mixing in key.

    • @DJDUMusic

      neah2k11 This controller isn’t worth $500 in the day and age.

    • @neah2k11
      @neah2k11 5 лет назад +2

      Oh it is... you've got 8 inch jog wheels that require physical pressure rather than smaller touch sensitive ones... so you can't accidentally brush the wheel and cause the music to stop or scratch... you've got seperate mic channel controls for 2 mics... you've got 2 USB ports for laptops... and you have multiple options for inputs and outputs... basically a replica of a far more expensive set up... so on build alone it would have been expensive... and again.. Serato users are upset because it loses functionality with Serato.... It. Wasn't. Designed. For. Serato. That's like putting diesel in a petrol engine and being upset that your car breaks down.

    • @neah2k11
      @neah2k11 5 лет назад +6

      If it isn't worth $500 then entry level controllers should all cost $10

    • @DJDUMusic
      @DJDUMusic  5 лет назад +1

      neah2k11 Even the guys from pioneer will tell you that they gave you a mediocre product. I was just at an event that they sponsored and they were telling me that they just threw it out there. They also said that they are in development of a new version with those kind of mechanical platters. Although I don’t see the difference in the platters outside of feel because I’ve never had an experience where I touched any job we were just stopped playing by accident.
      I talked with the guys from AGI Pro DJ and they told me that they’ve had so many returns already on the 1000 SRT. This was another tactic to try to get people to switch to record box because that version had proper BPM detection and post feeder affects on everything. I wouldn’t buy it just for the power supply alone.

    • @neah2k11
      @neah2k11 4 года назад

      @@DJDUMusic It just goes back to the original point. It wasn't made for Serato or any other platform. It was meant for Rekordbox. Serato users asked for it so they got it as is... As for say the BPM detection, that would be handled by the software on your PC since the control isn't standalone... that has nothing to do with the control itself. It's a good controller as is.... Personally I have the original, my first Rekordbox control, so I was new to the software, which does have its issues, things I'm personally not pleased with, but it serves me well

  • @FlowD505
    @FlowD505 5 лет назад +13

    I understand some of your points but to call this a rip-off is a long stretch. The SRT is a Serato of a controller that was basically made to A. Work with Rekordbox DJ specifically and B. Mimic a CDJ/DJM setup as close as possible.
    Because of the jog wheels mostly Serato guys really wanted this controller. That's why this exist the other Pioneer controllers were made to work with Serato and be strictly controllers not mimic a club setup which is why the SX and SZ have controls for certain functions etc. I knew about all the points you made in this video before even watching it and I still want this controller. Just because certain functions don't appeal to YOU doesn't make a product bad or a "rip-off". The point of this controller is to mimic a Pioneer club setup mostly which is exactly what it does. If you walk up to a Pioneer setup in a club you don't have controls of certain software functions either but I don't see you calling a CDJ/DJM setup a rip-off so you're kinda contradicting what you're saying and it sounds like you don't actually know the purpose of this product which is definitely not meant to be compared to a SX or SZ.

    • @DJDUMusic

      Lil Swann I use a club set up and trust me this doesn’t feel like it

    • @FlowD505
      @FlowD505 5 лет назад +3

      DJDUMusic how when it’s the same platters and same exact mixer setup the only major differences are the performance pads that obviously aren’t on CDJs but the basic layout is the same which is the point of this controller

    • @DJ-Coma
      @DJ-Coma 5 лет назад +3

      Lil Swann i think the rip-off comment is somewhat justified since it lacks many features the RekordBox version has and it came out two years later and costs more, although I would say “half-assed” is a better description.

      DJ Coma what “many” features they are the same mostly just like comparing a SZ to a RZ same layout but of course minor differences here and there because of 2 different softwares that don’t have all the same features so things like pad modes will obviously be different but the functionality is the same I feel like y’all are exaggerating

    There really needs to be a Pioneer DDJ-800SRT for those of us who use Serato and have no use for 4 channels, I do not want to pay the extra money for 2 channels I would never use and the extra size 4 channels require does not appeal as it makes the unit less portable. If Pioneer can make a 1000SRT it probably would not be difficult to produce the 800 Serato version and offer a wider product range.

    If you use the XP2 with this will you then have post fader?

      I thought I saw somewhere where you could MIDI program a button to do that, but maybe I’m wrong about that. What about using a hot cue that is at the end of the track where there is no music. Will you still get the tail if the fader is still up but the track is over?
      Sometimes I think that Pioneer made these shortcomings on purpose on the SRT to make you think about changing to Rekordbox.

    I wish Serato would just make their own hardware already. I'm going to get the DDJ Z2. Thanks for the review.

    Great review. I’m not really a DJ and only did it a couple of times but I like controllers in general. I’ve used the Traktor S8 but mainly keep in in the studio. I’m wondering if this would still be good for rentals and novice DJ work.

      DJDUMusic FYI hadn’t heard of you, as I live in a small town in the Rockies. Checking out your promo vids. Love the drumming idea. You have access to crazy venues. I’ll follow and watch your star rise man. Should be in Vegas this summer. I’ll try and hit up a show and get the full experience.

    Damn!! Great video thank you! I was curious about the post fader effects on this! I currently have the SZ and no post fader effects on that either so guess I'll transition to the SX3! Thanks for the info bro! Houston, TX here as well! :)
