Alan Niven is justifiably a legend and an absolute encyclopaedia of good advice and what's possible in Rn'R. This is a masterclass..... well done to Dropping the Needle and Mitch and Michael (I wrote this in an English accent).
Absolutely Mr. Alan Niven about that Singer going in that recording studio and recording from start to finish and that is Right in 1981 Journey was Recording The Escape Album their Biggest and No. 1 Album this was also the first since The Legendary Gregg Rollie one of the few members that this Band was Built for and around after being on road most of his Life being on road wanted to spend more time with family and he had already suggested his replacement The Baby’s had been opening and so Journey http see Jonathan Cain was a Professional and when got to studio he had the starts of Songs that are The Most Iconic Journey Songs and they got in studio and Neal, Jonathan and Steve Perry had and the recording went along when the Band had already been clicking Late in the day There was a Song Mother. Father a Very Strong Emotional Song and story it tells I have Always Loved it Steve Perry had been gone his Mother was having Health issues He walks in and they are ready he Sings the Song Start to Finish and starts to walk away and that was it and I can not tell you Alan but I watch a lot of Reation videos and all younger people not around in most cases someone sends a version of that Song this Performance was 1981 in Houston Tx The Compact Center The Rockets used to play and many other’s now the Areas was sold to Joel Olsteen’s Church a lot of up dating and spent many millions When I am down visiting my Beautiful Wife and Daughter a lot of times we will go to a service and as we enter I always look back at stage remember that night in 1981 and the concert was also being recorded for a Saturday night concert on MTV and I drove back to Longview I was Senior in 1980 so I would watch again so back every one of these younger people are I’m sure a lot of Rad but when they see Steve just with such emotion telling this story and seeing Neal Schon just singing as well with Guitar and Steve Smith’s Perfect Drums and Jonathan Cain Great Performance That concert was finally released to public on DVD watching these Young People u can really tell just Amazed I Always Have To let them know he said original song in one recording and so at church I always go back for a moment remembering!
In the middle of the interview when Alan was talking about long songs, I suddenly got the urge to listen to Ain't No Love In Heart Of The City and looked it up on youtube. Strange, because it's not a favorite and I've never wanted hear it out of the blue before. Maybe my subconscious thought he said "long song title". Now back to the interview!
This is painfully drawn out.... Niven sounds like a great, very genuine guy, but he sounds like he just got out of rehab, and has problems forming completely, logical sentences. He's rambles so much, he forgets what he was talking about in the first place.
